  1. 2 runs in the first for us would be very nice tonight.
  2. maybe there are others but softball is a really unique animal. CTJ mentioned about overpaying for a dude in basketball being a tale as old as time. Even one guy in basketball will have a tough time taking a team to an NC(see Cooper Flagg, Shaq, and a myriad of others). in softball one pitcher can throw 3 games in a row on consecutive days and possibly win every game. now there are fewer than 5 pitchers in college ball that can probably do that this year. there is a fatigue factor but there is basically no pitch limit. I can't think of another team sport where one player could change you from a middling top 30 team to a championship in one year Tech went all in because women's softball is probably 5th now in the hierarchy of college sports on TV nationally? (I'm not counting regional stuff like hockey and lacrosse). what else are they going to do? they will pay for basketball some(see Toppin)but do you think they will really open up for football and baseball given their history? It's fairly cheap way to get eyeballs on Tech on ESPN in primetime.
  3. Tech wanted to jump right into the CWS and Canady, with a few girls that can hit, was basically a guarantee to that. For Top 8 programs it was a marginal benefit and might not pay off(one or 2 bad days of hitting and your investment is down the drain). Tech can try to leverage this "success" to a future in the top 8, the upside for Tech was more than just an NC. whether Canady stays at Tech or not next year, it is going to be interesting to see what happens when she is no longer around for Tech or whoever. I agree that Tech just put the number so big that everyone said "I'm out". It was basically Pickens and Canady near or sub 1.00 ERA and then most everyone else about 1.50+ ERA, including Bahl. basically OU and Texas made final 4 with around 2.00 or higher ERA's. get a coach that can focus on hitting and fielding excellence and you don't have to pay the premium for 1.50 or below ERA's and also don't have to deal with a higher potential for locker room drama(this isn't a girls sport comment, this applies everywhere when you are dealing with 18-22 year olds).
  4. we did get one in football last year but didn't close the deal.
  5. interesting, so she's taking a medical which leaves her still with another redshirt I guess. I'm not sure the logic but I assume she can't practice if she takes a medical and it would be tough throwing her in after not see game action for a long time? I suppose if she gets hurt again she could take her normal redshirt?
  6. Texas always has to do it the hard way to win a title. it's just the way it is.
  7. his only big mistake was stewart at short and the team/TK bailed him out on that one. He is an outstanding coach. he deserves one(and yes I know deserves got nothing to do with it). physical errors happen, mental ones are the ones you can't live with and that was stewart's problem. good news is everyone is back where they belong and we've got a real good shot at a title if we can get 3 runs tonight.
  8. I'm waiting for the "2 touchdowns on tu, 14-2" SEC co champs shirt. goes right next to the LSU 74-72 regular season game win shirt.
  9. I really want to find a gif of Buttermaker telling Leak to hit the pitch when the Yankess were intentional walking him but can't seem to find it. "you are putting the winning run on first base, you imbecile!"
  10. It's softball, I thought anyone could wear any colors they want?(Insert Oregon joke here)
  11. hope you are right but Canady is a machine. she screwed up something they obviously never practiced. my guess is she'll be ready to go and it won't phase her. doesn't mean we won't win 2-0 or something like that.
  12. the are saying that umpire interference means it is a dead ball but IMO the batter interfered before the umpire interference. Logically the rule is BS because Tech should not benefit because the umpire screwed up. they are treating it the same as if a batted ball hits ump where the batter is awarded first and ball is dead. the issue is that in almost every case a batted ball hitting and ump is a base hit anyway.
  13. other than the over the top "Nijaree Stomp" thing she seems like a good egg. but she chose to play for tech so there you go.
  14. yeah, they would stand behind the plate an hold their arm out to give the pitcher a target that they would then step to.
  15. so now we have to start a "softball trivia" thread?
  16. this is the issue but in a different respect. in one of the posts upthread about the rule it says something about it not being obstruction for impeding the runner if in judgement of the umpire the fielder is just making a play or somesuch. they aren't using the judgement. they are just letting replay review obstruction and replay just says "where is her foot in relation to the base before she catches the ball?". replay should ask the umpire if in their judgement in game action did the fielder impede the runner from getting to the base. if the ump says yes then they should have called obstruction at the time of the play.
  17. both I think. they had clearly not practiced that at all. In baseball the catcher would cheat and move before the pitcher released the ball but nobody complained because everyone does it.
  18. good catch. the only thing they could say is that because Kavan caught the ball it was a throw back to the pitcher. Atwood was obviously trying to "make a play on the base runner". that whole play should have ended the game and the reason is logically Tech who is causing interference should not benefit because the umpire hindered Atwood.
  19. so here is the weird thing. what happens if reese throws her out. the ump interference kills the play? the batter was on the plate even before the ump interference happened as well. the ump interference was hurting Texas not Tech, as was the batter interference. why should tech benefit from that?
  20. I still can't believe they didn't call batter interference on the throw. She walks across the plate during the steal. regardless what happens with the ump you can't have the batter walking across the plate on a steal.
  21. I don't think the catcher really knew what to do. on the first pitch she held her arm out but she can't just stand 2 feet outside the catcher has to start in the catchers area and then move outside. I bet the catcher was worried about not getting outside fast enough. Canady was firing high fastballs. what needed to happen was for Canady to throw change ups 2 feet outside and high so the catcher can get there.
  22. if Tech loses this series I bet you anything the intentional walk rule is changed.
  23. Is Beth Mowins still alive? she has to be so depressed. first Patty Gasso loses and then Nijareeeeeeeeeeee Canadyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy loses. It has to be like a death in the family for her.
  24. how is it not obstruction on the batter?
  25. there are always weird fucking rules in the girls version of a sport. there doesn't need to be but they do it for some reason...
