Formerly DT: COVID-19 - Featuring Lots of Politics, now CR because political talk not going away
That's the kind of great, substantive reply that deserves a well thought explanation. I'm not claiming to have the answer on how to set up the infrastructure to support extended isolation if that's actually the best answer for preserving as much life as possible. I'm simply saying we should find the best plan to stop the spread and preserve life, and then put all resources against how to make that happen. Any other decision is consciously choosing to prioritize comfort, stability, finances/the economy, etc over life which just isn't how I would approach the problem. Clearly you disagree, so carry on bitching now and I'll step out.

I get that. My question was more if there are problems being caused by unwarranted hysteria. Yes, there will be lots of issues, many economic, with this. I'm just not pretending there are preferable alternatives. How people weigh priority of financial concerns and protecting public health will be interesting to observe as this goes on.

How? Other than being annoyed by people talking about this or buying all of the tp, what is the problem being created? I'm not being sarcastic, I genuinely don't see the tangible problem being created here. Also, if it seems worse right now, hang on a week or two and that perspective will change. I generally disagree with most of this. We absolutely can isolate for an extended period of time. It's not normal, and would require some pretty unique programs between governments, banks, businesses, etc, but simply dismissing that as possible is wrong. If that is literally the only way to contain this until a vaccine or other solution is found, we should 100% be focused on how to make that reality work rather than why that reality isn't feasible. I think trying to find answers to this within the context of what we consider normal day to day life is a mistake. The best answers to this will likely involve shaking up day to day life in ways that will feel abnormal and uncomfortable for potentially an extended period of time.

I live in Frisco and just read the comments on a local news story about the case discovered here. We are fucked. It's really frightening how ignorant most people here are about what is going on with this across the world. What's worse is the narrative that anyone encouraging changes in behavior to avoid catching and spreading this is gullible and caught up in the media frenzy. These people really believe there's nothing to see here, meanwhile other countries are implementing unprecedented quarantines of huge numbers of people. Any hope I had that this could be moderately contained here is just gone. Idiots are going to be idiots and make sure this thing spreads like crazy, and only once people they know start being impacted will they realize it was more than just the media. Unfortunately that will be about two weeks too late to hope to to anything about it. General lack of awareness about what goes on in the world has always been pretty embarrassing for a lot of Americans, and for once it's going to bite us in the ass. There's plenty of evidence to go off of at this point in terms of the severity of this, but reading these comments you wouldn't know it.

SXSW canceled
Long time ago, but my old band was scheduled for a CMJ festival showcase in NY in mid September 2001. Granted, unlike this there was really no doubt about whether that had to be shut down. I remember the surreal conversation confirming that it wasn't happening and we weren't going. As much excitement as there had been building up to it, by the time we talked about it officially being cancelled I'd forgotten it was even supposed to happen. Tell your kid not to worry, he won't make any less money making music now than he would have if he'd played the showcase.

A coworker this week came back from traveling in Asia. When she came back, a group of us requested that our company ask her to wfh (we're an ecommerce company) for at least a week to make sure she had no symptoms. Company just flat said no. Our company has offices on two floors, so I've simply relocated to the floor where she doesn't work for a week, maybe two. Everyone else who requested she not come in just accepted her coming back and stayed at their desks right next to her. I've got a 2 and a 4 year old at home. No way in hell I'm risking anything I don't have to.

You have the right idea. If you're going to create an alternate texags, the direction to go is selling that texags has actually been influenced by the bomc and has been giving the overly pessimistic take on the ags. Things are actually much better than the watered down version you've been getting from Luigi. It's like saying you want to take on Bernie Sanders for being too moderate in his policies. /no cloakroom

Point taken, but I'm honestly going to take some pride in confusing the two.

Everytime racist Daniel Figurelli aka Daniel Joseph aka rudedawg pokes his racist little head out of the hole in the ground he lives in these days, I just remember that racist piece of shit Daniel Figurelli aka Daniel Joseph literally lost a promising internship and potential job, had to move and change his name just because he wanted to post racist shit at UT fans and recruits on Twitter. And like the fuck up racist piece of shit Daniel Figurelli aka Daniel Joseph still is, he continues to post the same shit on Twitter even after all of that because, well, he's already completely fucked up his useless life, so why not.

From one of the replies by Texags... "We have several analysts who cover games every weekend, every recruiting event, watch film..." Anyone else confident that daddy98 is being used as an "analyst" here?

Let's say, hypothetically, that you graduated from a college where graduates prefer to do business with other graduates over all considerations. Let's say you also graduated from a college where graduates prefer only to hire other graduates, regardless of actual qualifications. Last, let's say many of the jobs being filled by these under qualified hires happened to involve a fair amount of risk, such that their inevitable fuck ups might create some meaningful liabilities. Assuming those three circumstances are true, is there really a better line of work to be in? Cletus wants to hire Billy bc he's a damn good ag, but he also seems like a moron who's likely to fuck up the job and maybe hurt some folks in the process, so he'd better get some insurance...if only there was another good ag looking to sell him some...- Mike Leach to the SEC (Mississippi St)
I've seen Leach called a lot of things, most of them at least arguably fair, but this one is confusing. In what ways is Leach a coward?- Javonne Shepherd is in the portal
