Maybe it's been discussed at length (I certainly miss pages of this thread of a time, so point me to a page number if I'm rehashing old shit) but can anyone explain the disconnect between the betting markets and polls?  I'm not following closely so maybe a poll shift but most I've seen still seem to be predicting a narrow Harris win.  But Trump appears to be a relatively comfortable favorite in the betting markets.   I don't think presidential betting reflect the market the same extent as sports betting (with actual regulated books not taking bets + small $ limits, etc.) but still a bit surprising.

I think it's just that stupid people bet on results that they're hoping for. There were quite a few that bet on Conor McGregor to beat Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match.

Since Mayweather had always been a convincing favorite throughout his career -- -200 against Pacquiao, -300 versus Canelo Alvarez, -400 against Shane Mosely -- professional bettors couldn't believe they could get a similar price on Mayweather versus McGregor.

Mayweather's odds dipped under -400 in the days leading up the fight, and the big, smart money began appearing.

So many reasons I want Kamala, Walz to win this. A couple of them that I don't think about much:

    1. I don't want this pseudo intellectual, eye liner wearing creep with his weirdo beard to be a big part of American politics for 4 or 8 or however many years. I don't want to think about this guy again until he's up for re-election in 2028.

    2. If Dotard becomes President again with immunity and no guard rails, his corrupt ass will enrich himself to the point of being one of the wealthiest people that ever lived.

Your opinion is wrong and you should feel bad. Clinton was a marginal candidate and mostly unknown outside of the state of Arkansas except by politics junkies in the spring of 1992. His candidacy was only possible because when Bush looked unbeatable going into the early fall of 1991, all the top contenders on the Democratic side declined to run including the top two “next generation” candidates.

As evidence, this Saturday Night Live skit. "The fact is I couldn't beat David Duke in Harlem."

Americas finest at the GA-Bama game. John Daly is hanging around there too. I would like to hear more about whose suite it is. I would bet that it’s a rich bama alum who is having legal or regulatory problems with the feds,

Hank Jr, the only person in that booth that ever exhibited a shred of intellect or artistry. His weird upbringing, pills, and 90 proof really did a number on him.

  5. I graduated in '97 as an English major. Anyone have Ayers for Shakespeare? I dropped it after 2 weeks. I read and wrote more in those 2 weeks than I did in the entire semester of the other Shakespeare class I took later.

I had Hilfer for American Lit 316K. I had Milton with that old bastard, Val Leclerq.  I took Early British Romantics and Later British Romantics. Later was with Heinzelman. The Romantics were fun. They were like rappers, always having beef with each other.  Postmodernism was one of the best. Can't remember the professor's name. Modern Short Story was excellent. Professor Bremen was one of my favorites. Had some kind of later American Literature course with him.

  6. Don't know if already posted or if there's a more appropriate thread but I'm dying laughing at this. Not at all safe for work. This guy was still at 35% in the last poll I saw for NC governor. You hear about the black nazi stuff and praising Hitler but I haven't  heard much of this, even on Surly. Worse than I thought. Still polling at 35%!

    NSFW, like at all!

Ahem.  As a senior member of the ledge dwellers' officer corps and glee squad....I predicted that his campaign was only going to go further down the rabbit hole.  Their sole strategy is to motivate and "inspire" the true-believer base.  And to do that...you go even more "true-believer."  Loomer, and more like her, are a stone-cold lock for this campaign.  It's what MAGA is.

If 6 weeks ago, you had predicted that Loomer specifically would've been joining the inner circle of Trump's campaign, helping prepare for the debate, and joining him at events like 9 11 memorials, you'd have been dismissed as a @Helobious sock.
