Imagine is part of the money NIL is put in an investment fund for the players. Just check a box to put 0-100% of it in the NIL Investment Trust. That would really help set habits that can change their lives. I know that maybe harder to sell and might back fire, but it would be beneficial.

I think you're onto some of the challenges here. A 4 year time horizon is pretty short. You could give them the option to keep it invested post graduation and that would alleviate the concerns about risk levels. Having worked at Fidelity for several years I can tell you it's nearly impossible to teach new money how to hold onto that money. Especially when they come from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. Whoever the advisor is is going to have a hell of a time convincing some of those kids to think about 40-50 years from now rather than next weekend.

So any word on Jeddah about what we can expect for racing? I'm not jazzed about the whole Saudi Arabia hosting, but will admit that the track all lit up looks very cool. Also heard it's full throttle 80% of the lap. Will cars be going with Monza setups?

Good question. I think they will probably opt for a lower downforce set up because turn 13 and 27 are going to be pretty slow but everything else is fast

would this be a disqualifiable offense since the FIA forced people to stiffen the rear wing already? Seems like the mostly likely response would be "cut it out".

I still think Mercedes is doing something fucky with the air temp. Since they only look at the average temp over the course of the lap it would be easy to lower temps coming onto a straight and then do something else electronically to make sure the average is still in range. Combine that extra hp, stalled diffuser, engine tuned for 2k miles, and a bendy wing and you can explain why he was driving a rocket.

I love Burnt Ends. But if you want to pay difference-making players, the TE room isn't necessarily where you're looking. It's fucking brilliant as a concept, because it creates this pool of cash that's agnostic of individual players/performance. "You come here you get paid, regardless."

We need performance focus, too, so guys know they'll get paid for making it happen on the field. For instance, you could become a partial investor in a private company for the specific purpose of funding their sponsorship of a certain elite player. And your wife can wonder why the hell you're getting into that business and roll her eyes when you explain it to her. Theoretically. Hypothetically. In Minecraft.

Look at Leverage Lineup and get together with people you know who have private interests and get it moving.

You aren't going to see much with regards to NIL specific moves on this board. Things are moving, though, even if you don't see it here.

We want more movement, of course, as we should.

But immamac is right about the performance on the field and its impact on donations. We are very lucky, though, because even in our doldrums we are going to be throwing around more NIL cash than 80% of teams even when they're successful. And if we ever get to 10+ win seasons again? It's going to get wild.

Unfortunately, you can't offer an NIL deal based on Performance. I am going to bastardize the language but essentially you get into the pay-for-play (on the field) realm when you start offering performance incentives. It needs to be a flat amount based on some service rendered in their name image or likeness.

I like your idea of offering some valid business venture partnership but what happens when their play on the field suffers? Do you cut their shares? I don't see how you convince the university this isn't a pay per performance deal. I am genuinely curious though how we can offer better deals to our athletes.

  5. Mercedes turning up their power units as a last effort against Redbull is quite the gamble with this many races left. I get they have been the most reliable engine manufacturer but if you get this one wrong just once then the whole thing is over. Based on the pace they have with the engine turned up though Hamilton has a real shot at beating Verstappen. Probably greater than 50% chance.

Pruett begging Colton to not become a backmarker instead of a champion: https://racer.com/2021/10/13/pruett-an-open-letter-to-colton-herta/

All I can say is ... keep your eyes and ears open next Thursday in Austin. Don't miss it ...

The anticipation! I wonder what kind of money Colton would bring to Alfa. Are American corporate sponsors taking notice in the growing interest in motorsport? I don't really buy into Americans clamoring for an American driver. Americans supporting an American winner? Different story.

what did Urban do that was so bad? Dance with a couple of bimbos at a club? That's it?

He who has not given an over the pants butthole tickle may cast the first stone?

I think the issue is more about leaving his team when they are 0-4 and haven't looked remotely competitive. The rest is just funny.

Yep. And Alpine is using a tweaked 2020 car and a 3 year old PU.  All in on 2022 with a new PU.

With all of this time and money spent on the new cars I am pretty excited to see how teams interpret the regulations. Half the reason I pay attention is that formula 1 is a constructors sport. The drivers may get the glory but in reality it's all about the engineering. The creative shit they pull off is insane

Good to see Alonso owning that mistake, saying the penalty was deserved. You don't see that too often in this sport. And apologizing to Mick was a nice touch. Mick just can't catch a break.

It's such a shame because you can see he is a talented driver. His car does him no favors but you have to think with 2 years of development and all of the ferrari engineers donated to Haas that he will have a better car to work with next year

our oline is fucking trash, not servicable

Our Oline is below average at pass blocking and communicating. Our oline is average at run blocking and above average at outside zone. It’s good enough to score points.

our defense is the least athletic i have ever seen it. Our defense is trash

-Hudson is going to land wherever Samples does, or something bigger will have to put on the table for Hudson. Either of those outcomes can come from the Texas end. There's growing consensus that whoever lands Samples has a reasonable expectation of closing whoever the fuck they want through a large swath of DFW.

Are you suggesting that it is possible Samples ends up at Texas next season in some capacity?

Are you trying to just learn the logic to answer the every day questions that pop up or are you looking to do some type of application of analytics? I can probably point you in the right direction, but I need a bit more of what you are trying to do.

I come from the mindset that technically analytics does not exist (which is funny in a way due to the fact that I am heavily invested in the field practically and at the academic level), and it is just a upsell of business intelligence or decision support systems view points, or some of the other versions of this concept along the way. We can now do it faster, with more data, with more complexity than we could ever before.

Most of the concepts that we call "business analytics" can be traced back to the 1940's Management Science. In essence, most of it is true applied statistics with a mixture of computer science viewpoints, data base/data management concepts, and visualization. The true value in analytics is speed in which the complex answers to questions can found and therefore in which those answers can then be employed.

This is the standard intro slide deck I teach to my overarching grad data mining course (essentially welcome to analytics before we start doing specific topic major areas like visualization, or predictive or prescriptive) based within a SAS GUI -driven platform.

Let me know what you are looking for and we can go from there.

Do you mind if i ask where you teach? I am half way through the Data Science masters program at Northwestern. There are so many garbage programs available it’s hard to tell what is good and what isn’t. The program has a heavy math requirement and the core classes cover just about every topic. So far it feels like i am paying for a worthwhile degree.

Wow.  I've been a member here for several years.  Don't post much.  I thought you all had thicker skin and could take a fucking joke.  Guess I was wrong.  You are all a bunch of pussies.  I graduated a pretty long time ago - back when Austin and the students had a, well let's just say "different" reputation.  I fear the that the rumors of the town and school's culture are true. Don't worry, pussies, I won't be back.  I'm done.

Waaaaaa... don't neg rep me... no, not that!  waaaaaa....

    You sound really tough.
