Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: Boulevard of Broken Bagmen
campcrunk replied to texifornia's topic in π€«$9.95π€«
Interesting that despite that pretty lofty ranking (47th nationally in the composite and 83rd in the Top 247), neither UT nor LSU even offered and I don't remember seeing him mentioned anywhere in our recruiting stuff. I also don't recall hearing about A&M recruiting him at all either even though his list says they "offered." It's probably not a good sign for OU if they're having to overpay for this guy. Hopefully, it's another Taylor Tatum/Jackson Arnold/Zion Kearney (soon to include Bowe Bentley?) type of situation. I'm always happy to see OU pay out the nose for players like that with their adorable little budget -

Be careful, man - he already mentioned you on his show. Pretty soon, he's going to demand that you meet him in the Texags' office parking lot -

Just for shits and giggles, here are the HUDLs for the 2 OTs on 247's list of potential Sr. risers: Rhett Gray: https://www.hudl.com/video/3/19158390/673efadf5023bf5f665235d5 Nicholas Howard: https://www.hudl.com/video/3/19194966/671ece784d23b4484465f49f I know nothing about evaluating these players but I guess Howard looks pretty good. Neither of them is Kelvin Banks. Gray seems mean, which I respect, but he also could/should have been flagged a couple of times (see the clip at 0:20). Gray might be a little bit bigger but Howard looks significantly more athletic to me -
Texas Preferred Walk-Ons: Good Kids from Good Families
campcrunk replied to Machinator's topic in π€«$9.95π€«
I'm happy for the kid but I don't understand why you'd go from being a walk-on at Texas to being a walk-on at USD - especially for a kid with the grades to be recruited by Brown. Did UT cut him or wouldn't guarantee his roster spot past 2024? More playing time at USD? Promise of an eventual scholarship? I wish him the best no matter what Also, how can the Burlsworth Trophy (best player who began his career as a walk-on) people sleep at night after giving last year's award to Bryce Boettcher over Taafe? Taafe wasn't even in the final three - he didn't make it past the final 10. Boettcher is a good player but that decision is a travesty -

I can't believe I didn't see that - thanks That's a really impressive time - especially for guy who's 6'2" 190. Here's his Jr. HUDL for anyone interested: https://www.hudl.com/video/3/18855581/6757b2fe2031b48107e80c54. The 98 yard TD at 4:52 and a kickoff return at 5:32 are really nice and I like that they go to him near the goal line a lot - we could use a guy like that -

I saw this article on 247 about potential late risers but I really, really don't want to give 247 any money: https://247sports.com/college/texas/longformarticle/texas-longhorns-football-recruiting-senior-evals-late-risers-rhett-gray-jayden-warren-ashton-ace-bowden-nicolas-howard-jaivion-martin-252427113/ Still, it's an interesting question. I'm sure there will be at least one or two guys we'll target late, like we did with Moro Ojomo and Vasek. I would imagine they'll at least look at some potential late rising OTs. 247 says we "offered" this guy: https://247sports.com/Player/dominic-harris-46153349/. I know nothing about the evaluation skills of Fisch and his staff but I would assume they're at least pretty good based on past performance so maybe we'll circle back to him if there's no movement with Lee. Or maybe we look at the in-state kids committed to Arkansas, ASU, and TCU? -
Texas A&M Football 2025 - On the Edge of Glory(holes)
campcrunk replied to closetojumping's topic in Football
As much as they're hyping their OL, how good can they be at center if the guy Utah either ran off or flatly didn't care about losing stands a shot of beating out Nabou for the starting job? Seems problematic for the whole "GREATEST OL EVER" narrative Edit: I should have kept reading. Sounds like it's even worse than I thought. If they have to play Fatheree in any starting role, they're more cooked than I thought -

To kind of tie this to the music theme, Mrs. Robinson is just a fantastic song. And I'm not usually a fan of a ton covers, but I thought the Lemonheads did it justice -

Time for the $9.95 crew to write a whole bunch of articles about how Florida or LSU beat out Texas in this "hotly contested recruiting battle." -

I was hoping for this as well based on his five-star/top 10 prospect pedigree and his very obvious overall talent level. I figured that those things combined with Baker's development skills would create a monster DT - but the more I think about it, the more it seems like it's probably not going to happen. It sounds like his injury was even worse than originally thought and he had a more bad weight to lose than expected. Unfortunately, I think that, despite the apparent rise in play quality during his last little bit at UNC, he still has a long, long way to go. I really hope that I wind up being wrong about this but it seems like a long shot. However, if Maraad Watson and Brevard wind up being as good as advertised (and Kanu the boatload of absurdly talented freshmen develop well), I don't think it will matter much. Fingers crossed for Shaw, though. Him having some kind of Broughton-like awakening would be a game changer -

She has not. She's more into slasher type stuff these days. Just for the record, she's excellent and extremely caring and gentle with all of our many pets - but I still don't like to turn my back on her for too long -

I really like Noah Thomas for one reason: he's the ultimate counter-point to all the UGA bitching about Atkinson and Terry Consider the following: UGA fans: it's not fair for Texas to come into Georgia with an unfair offer for guys we've been recruiting since 8th grade. UT fans: OK, well, what about Noah Thomas? He's a 6'6" athletic freak from League City/HTX area who ran a sub-11 second 100 meter dash and could be huge for UT (and those other dorks up 290 or whatever - but who cares about them? IRRELEVANT) in the red zone? And UGA bought him out from under both hometown teams who wanted him and who had a relationship with him dating back years. In fact, UGA swooped in with the biggest offer to steal the kid from 2 hometown teams. How is that different from whatever you ALLEGE happened with Atkinson and Terry (a version of events that I very much doubt is reflected in reality)? UGA fans: In sum, hypocritical bulldogs can get fucked and I look forward to taking many, many top prospects out of Georgia in the coming years -

I think most of us have been there. My youngest was obsessed with watching me play Bloodborne at age 5. She finished my copy of the complete works of HP Lovecraft at 11 and, later that year, when she asked me to show her the movie that scared me the most ever, she didn't bat an eyelash at any of the truly disturbing stuff in Event Horizon. Bright, bight kid and I love her to death but she's definitely wired a little bit differently -

Was just about to post this. I don't remember much actually really, really, really frightening me (at least not until Event Horizon came out) but Watership Down traumatized the shit out me Edit: I take that back. There was episode of Tales from the Crypt where some old guy died and it turned out that being dead just meant being trapped and paralyzed in your body with only your own inner monologue for all eternity. That one also fucked my world up pretty good -
I think Aranda is about to be in trouble with Little People of America for using the "M-word"

I was thinking about Bowe Bentley's recruitment the other day. Looks like UT and even aggy said "good luck, kid," without even handing out a fake, non-committable offer (although I must concede that, when you get a kid like Bell, there's no need to look any further. But that still doesn't explain aggy taking the much lower rated kid from Utah, unless they're making a horrible mistake, which, well... OK that's very plausible). However, tOSU took a 3-star instead of fighting for Bentley, I'm not sure I buy that UGA ever actually "offered," and LSU, with no current QB commit, also did not seem interested in fighting for him in the slightest. Maybe I'm completely out to lunch on this (and it would be VERY fair to call me an ignorant, know-nothing asshole) but outside of 3 schools that didn't seem to care enough to really recruit Bentley, I'm very much unimpressed by his offer list, particularly given the lack of local-ish powers (sorry, Tech - you don't count). Even TCU, Baylor, and SMU don't seem to have offered. Time will tell but this looks to me like a Haynes King/Jackson Arnold type situation to me. On the other hand, it seems like Duke really wanted him so at least we know his grades are pretty good

I really, really, really want her to somehow insinuate herself into Matt Rhule's organization and become the same glorious mess for the corn that she was for aggy. CFB is just better what Karen is regularly embarrassing some program I hate. Maybe she can move to Athens after that -

"A new version of the sort of challenges that have always existed [in SEC recruiting.]" WHAT KIND OF CHALLENGES WERE THOSE, GEORGIA? AND WHO CREATED THOSE CHALLENGES? But, yes, Sark is totally dishonest and Kirby is a complete saint, worried only about the sanctity of the precious concept of "student-athlete." Fucking dunce -
The fact that I'm having to dig like this says a lot about the amazing job the staff has done with player retention but... no mention of Andrej Karic? I would think we had a spot on our two-deep for him last year. He did start on a playoff team and won SEC OL of the week after they beat Vandy the last weekend of November Not saying we missed him a ton - just that maybe he would have given us slightly more depth at guard?

Quick - someone tweet this at Mark Bowman Seriously, though, and I know recruits and their parents aren't paying attention to this shit like we are but how does someone read a line like "USC... is now forced to cut staff and sell off assets to stay afloat" and think, "yup, these guys are definitely going to be able to afford my huge NIL deal?" Selling off team shit? No idea how accurate this is but it sounds fucking grim Also, my sister is in town. My wife and I are supposed to meet her tomorrow at some place called like "the Broiled Peach" or something stupid and trendy like that. I'm definitely now saying "fuck all that, we're going to Conan's. If you don't like it, tough shit. See you at Thanksgiving."
