You missed the point. This is one of the SEC teams the 2-3 loss SEC teams are playing. Point being that being in the sec doesn’t automatically make you a great team.
This.
Texas and Tech both made some really bad coaching decisions in the past 15 years. Texas had the talent to still have winning seasons, but the results were subpar for their expectations, resources, and the talent on hand. Tech was a combination of bad coaching and poor talent, and the results played out exactly as you would expect...losing seasons and some horrific blowout losses.
In 2021, Tech fires their coach and Sonny Cumbie takes over as interim, getting them to and winning a bowl game. Then Joey takes the piece-meal team and gets 8 wins and a bowl victory last year with really not much of an upgrade in talent. Coaching matters. See: Jimbo Fisher @ A$M
I don't think so. Title IX just says you have to have the same number of intercollegiate opportunities for women that you have for men. As long as they are still intercollegiate sports, conference affiliation doesn't matter.
I know I'm beating a dead horse, and I've said this eleventy-two times.
The only change we needed to stop the 4 hour games was to CHANGE THE DAMN INSTANT REPLAY RULES. College football's biggest waste of time is instant replay. Adopt the NFL replay rules verbatim and you fix everything.
I should also mention that one of Tech's starting DB's this year was UT's very own Tyler Owens who ended up transferring to Tech. He's the NE Patriots #1 target on their draft board for special teams specialist.
But yeah, just another outlier. What is the magic number before we can say they are no longer outliers and you admit that the transfer portal has good players going to these "tier 2" schools from "tier 1" as well?
Quick summary:
1. Tyree Wilson - transferred from A&M to Tech, drafted in 1st round.
2. Tyler Shough - transferred from Oregon to Tech, has a lot of NFL scout interest.
3. Tyler Owens - transferred to Tech from UT, top target for NE Patriots' special teams draft board.
4. New WR who transferred from Austin Peay - one of the fastest players on the field when they played Alabama last year, accumulating nearly 100 yds receiving against the Crimson Tide.
5. New DB from Fresno St. - tons of speed.
6. New Center from WKU - also has NFL potential.
7. New DE from Syracuse - being scouted by multiple NFL teams
But yeah, the transfer portal is only going to help the SEC and BIG and it's going to hurt the rest of us. 🙄
This. Mitch's fallacy is he thinks the transfer portal only goes in one direction.
Didn't TCU get two players from Alabama this past year?
Tech's starting QB came from Oregon, and Tyree Wilson (#8 overall NFL pick this past Spring) transferred to Tech from A&M as a preferred walk-on. That's right. A scholarship player at an SEC school transferred to Tech as a walk-on his first semester, and ended up being a #1 draft pick.
Fred Akers first year. Always felt bad for Coach Akers. A really good coach who got close, but just couldn't get his team the championship like his legendary predecessor did. He was the Danny White of UT football coaches.
