  1. "Five dolla make you hollar" Translation: they use their teeth
  2. So did the expanded 12 team playoff just save the Pac 10? Does this put the kabash on the Big 12 poaching any of the 4-corner schools? Or does the regular season TV money still require the current PAC teams to rethink their lives?
  3. That's the damn argument university presidents and conference commissioners gave for decades as to why they wouldn't go to a playoff. I was simply trying to "address" their long-running "concern" that they spouted for years. Not saying that was my argument (because look at basketball, baseball, etc.) So when they went from 4 to 12, it didn't make sense based on what they've told us in the past. One thing I didn't throw in that I should have included is that the additional round will make it cost-prohibitive for fans, namely the current students and recent grads, to go to all the games should their team advance. Hopefully they will not try and use the bowls for this until the final 4 so that it would be somewhat reasonable for people to attend the early rounds.
  4. Eight made the most sense, worked out to include highest ranked conference champions, and doesn't water down regular season or make the playoffs too long for the student athletes. So of course, the presidents chose 12. All they care about is money.
  5. Hollee sheet. From MVP to Doghouse in one play.
  6. Um, George, you're not invited. That store closed its doors to you last year.
  7. I admit I don't watch F1. I'm just more curious is those leagues have the same amount of standardization that NASCAR employs. I would just like to see what the racing would be like if teams had more freedom on car set-up.
  8. I think NASCAR should scrap all of the rules that put restrictions on car set-up, engines, etc. If they want to make their product less boring, and let's be honest, it's become pretty boring, they need to let the teams make any and all modifications they want. Stipulate only the safety requirements, the manufacturer's body design and dimensions, and that the engine parts have to be from the manufacturer, and that's it. Then let's see what these teams could really do if they had the shackles removed, and I guarantee you the product they would put out there would be infinitely more entertaining. Does F1 and Indy have such strict standardizations? I honestly don't know...but it sure seems like there is more variation in performances in those leagues.
  9. Cut him some slack...he appears to only be about 14-15 years old.
  10. This. What he didn’t say is how many conversations he’s had with his president.
  11. So basically the NIL contract will become the new collegiate free agency control mechanism.
  12. Tennis will lead the way.
  13. Hey Nate, why do you hang out at Surly? Me: For commentary such as this.
  14. Interesting development...no mention of CU or ASU. Haven't seen UDub mentioned w/o Oregon until now:
  15. I like the Double T scoreboard because we've had a Double T scoreboard in the south ez my entire life, so I'm glad they are going to keep that bit of history going, albeit with a new and modern version. I remember my first game at age 7 just starting at it and thinking it was the coolest scoreboard in the world. I agree with you on the video boards.
  16. Bell towers. It's kind of our thing.
  17. Can't hit the QB while in a passing posture??? What the holy fuck is this shit?
  18. The ACC isn't going to make it to 2036. It's not going to make it to 2026. The Big12 is in a stronger position now than previously thought, and if 4-6 PAC10 schools do end up defecting, the dominos are going to start to fall and the ACC GoR will go the way of the dodo. Of course every conference is saying what they are saying right now because there's a lot of legal two-stepping they have to do in this dance. But the ACC House of Cards is going to come down soon.
  19. Now do Lincoln NE, Manhattan KS, Lawrence KS, Iowa City, Ames, Waco, College Station, Tucson, Eugene, Columbia MO, Fayettville, the State of Mississippi, the State of Alabama, Knoxville, whatever podunk town in west Virginia that VA Tech is in. Lubbock is has more flight options and more convenient airport-to-campus than ANY of those towns.
  20. Take Texas Tech as another example. Our football team has sucked hind-tit for over a decade now and we still will have 50,000+ attend our games in our 65,000 capacity stadium even when we suck. And a good percentage of that 50,000-60,000 is coming from hundreds of miles away...Dallas, Houston, Austin, etc. And this is during a time period where our football program is the worse it has been since the early 80's. We have better attendance than other programs (see Baylor) who have been way more successful lately. Basketball is selling out a 15,000 seat arena. Baseball is sold out and even on a down year we made the playoffs. We have a student enrollment of 40,000 and a huge spread out, fanatical alumni base. But we are being compared with the bottom feeders in FBS. I don't get it.
  21. Not to cloak room this thread, but does anyone else feel we (fans, schools, etc) are nothing but the puppets at the end of the strings being pulled by two mega, mega media conglomerates? If Standard Oil and Ma Bell were considered dangerous monopolies that had to be broken up for the common good, what does that make ESPN/Disney and Fox? ALL of this realignment stuff is being completely manipulated by these two companies. I’m getting the whole industrial media complex vibe and I don’t see it being a good thing in the end.
  22. I assumed they would go to the B1G if this scenario played out.
  23. So if it plays out like that, does the Big12, after getting the four corner schools, then go after Louisville and NC State? I think it would make sense.
  24. I disagree. I think CU and AZ are ready to jump yesterday, and ASU to a somewhat lesser degree. They are desperate to find solid ground somewhere, and see jumping to the Big12 as helping to create that solid ground. Big12, likewise, can’t say no if these schools ask to join. It’s mutually beneficial to all parties.
