  1. Looks like Saban wants only 40 schools in the super league, which really means ESPN only wants 40: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6351340/2025/05/13/nick-saban-cody-campbell-college-sports/
  2. The corporatists are desperately trying to hold on to power. This is a shitty move: https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/dnc-subcommittee-recommends-redoing-vice-chair-elections-putting/story?id=121751231 The Democratic National Committee's Credentials subcommittee has recommended that the party should once again hold vice-chair elections over complaints that there were issues with how the balloting was conducted -- a move that places its vice chairs David Hogg and Malcolm Kenyatta in jeopardy of losing their positions. The recommendation, made after the committee's vote on Monday, comes after the party-wide officer races in February. The subcommittee's deliberations were based on a challenge filed by vice chair candidate Kalyn Free on how the election was conducted. Free's counsel argued that the way some of the voting was conducted allowed Hogg and Kenyatta to unfairly receive more votes than Free, who also sought a vice-chair role.
  3. Tribal camps are forming. I don’t think it’s a good thing but I’m not sure, given the political climate, it can be avoided.
  4. Watched part of a fascinating round table on CNN during which the guests candidly discussed Donald Trump’s in your face, unapologetic racism. The experience was both refreshing and disturbing because those on the panel dropped any pretense of trying to explain away Trump’s racist motives in this initiative. The disturbing part was just how normal it sounded.
  5. To what degree does it bother anybody else that the fans are nothing more that props who have become absolute last consideration in any of this money based deal making?
  6. Again, I believe it’s not so much his genius as it is the willingness of millions to accept being intentionally being lied to. It’s astonishing.
  7. Twice, this kind of thinking gives me pause. In a recent conversation with a doctor friend of mine, he said it was next to impossible to get doctors to support prosecution of wayward doctors. The more I thought about it, it occurred to me the same cold be said of law enforcement, clergy, coaches, politicians and other groups.
  8. It’s not at all clear that they’re “ICE Agents.” Most likely of hodgepodge of deputized goons.
  9. These people would have made good 1930s Germans: https://www.tigerdroppings.com/rant/politics/stephen-miller--administration-considering-suspending-habeas--corpus/118570683/page-2/
  10. Bishop Robert Barron stated that the Catholic Church might not elect an American as pope until the US undergoes a period of political decline. His reasoning, echoing that of Cardinal George, suggests that the Church might avoid giving the papacy to a leader from a nation perceived as politically dominant, fearing the perception of control. I don’t think even he knew how prescient his comments were at the time he made them. Our political decline has been rapid and severe.

  12. Good grief: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6341165/2025/05/07/donald-trump-commission-on-college-athletics/ Former Alabama head coach Nick Saban and Texas Tech board of regents chairman Cody Campbell would co-chair the commission President Donald Trump is interested in forming to examine the long list of issues facing college sports, a source briefed on the plans told The Athletic. The source said Trump is expected to be “very engaged” with the commission because he sees the current state of college sports as an issue of national importance. The New York Times and Wall Street Journal reported Trump was interested in weighing in with an executive order after the president spoke last week with Saban, who has expressed concern that college sports is being harmed by the big money pouring into it to compensate athletes with little regulation. Yahoo Sports first reported Wednesday that Trump is planning to create a presidential commission to examine a long list of issues facing college sports, from booster-funded payments and transfer rules to conference alignment and Title IX. Campbell, who was elected chairman of the Texas Tech board of regents last month, is a former Red Raiders football player and one of the university’s most prominent donors. He is the co-founder and co-executive of Double Eagle Energy Holdings, an upstream oil and gas company based out of Fort Worth, Texas, which operates extensively in the Permian Basin region of West Texas. Campbell is also the co-founder of the Matador Club, an NIL collective that supports Texas Tech athletics, and he recently spearheaded the new $242 million south endzone project at Tech’s Jones AT&T Stadium, which overlooks Cody Campbell Field. In February, Double Eagle sold a development for $4.1 billion, and in 2021, the company sold a previous development for $6.4 billion. Last month, Double Eagle announced a continued and expanded partnership with EnCap Investments, a prominent private equity company that specializes in the oil and gas industry. Campbell is a board member of Texas Public Policy Foundation and a distinguished fellow at the America First Policy Institute, the latter which has been integral to President Trump’s second-term policy agenda. A presidential commission would typically dig into various aspects of an issue or enterprise and deliver a report suggesting possible solutions that could involve executive and legislative action. Earlier this month, Trump signed an executive order creating the Religious Liberty Commission.
  13. You kinda have to believe he’s trolling the country with these ludicrous pics.
  14. His trade deals are the new Infrastructure Week - mythical.
  15. It will be fascinating to watch the degree to which the willingness of billionaires from spend will destabilize the traditional blue blood pool of schools. Inarguably, they have gobs of money, but it is becoming increasingly clear that they don’t have all the money. SMU bought its way into the playoff and aren’t showing signs of retreat. BYU has surprised with its level of engagement. It will be interesting…
  16. Jennings is the only non anchor on every night because his job is just piss non MAGAts off.
  17. Watch Charles Blow make Scott Jennings eat his own words. Delicious!
  18. Why haven’t the media reported about this? The MAGAts must have a short memory because it wasn’t that long ago that they were celebrating Judge Kascmaryk’s attempt to enjoin the FDA’s approval of mifepristone: The No Rogue Rulings Act (H.R. 1526): This bill, authored by Rep. Issa, aims to restrict the scope of federal injunctions, particularly those issued by district court judges. Purpose: NORRA seeks to prevent a single district court judge from issuing nationwide injunctions that halt executive actions or challenge national policies. Rationale: Supporters argue that a single district court judge should not have the power to direct national policy. They believe that such power should be reserved for the democratically elected branches of government, Congress and the President. Impact: The bill would require a three-judge panel to issue a nationwide injunction in cases where two or more states in different judicial districts challenge an executive action. Potential for Stalemate: The bill is likely to face opposition in the Senate, where a Democratic filibuster could block it
  19. And suddenly, miraculously it became the second best law school in the state. Aggy has figured the ranking game out and they’re good at it.
  20. The Sec’y of Rasslin’ obviously mean business.
  21. Two Dallas-area cities have earned major bragging rights: Celina and Prosper, two boomtowns north of Dallas, are among the top three fastest growing affluent suburbs in the country. The cities' new affluent status was unveiled in a new GoBankingRates' study ranking the "30 Fastest-Growing Wealthy Suburbs in America" for 2025. The report examined population changes from 2018 to 2023 among cities and towns in major U.S. metro areas with populations between 25,000 and 100,000 residents. Median household income, average home value, and a "livability score" were also calculated for each locale. Celina came in at No 2 on the list, with Prosper following one slot behind at No. 3
  22. That’s a Mehdi Hassan type question and you won’t survive in American media being that good.
