  1. Netflix has started to figure out the power of live event streaming. I guess David Chang’s mostly bad live cooking show was the first; it’s live across the globe. Then the roast. They got two Christmas Day nfl games in 24.

The roast would have been better being tighter at 90 minutes, with fewer unknown comics, Kraft, Bill, and others on tape, and unrelated cameos. Will Farrell as Ron Burgundy just sucked balls. The walk alongs in the audience sucked too. Jeff Ross is now irrelevant.

David Chang’s cooking show is great.
  2. If I was Trumps lawyer there would be no way I’d let him get within 100 miles of the witness stand.  I can’t imagine anyone having more material on them that would show they have a tendency to lie.

A lawyer can not stop his client from testifying if they really want to do so.
  3. Red county DAs will likely ramp up the plea offers again, just like they did in MoCo after Ogg announced her look the other way policy in Harris Co. As I recall the MCDA made a public statement about the evils of reefer (his word choice) and offers of dismissal with a clean test disappeared overnight.

I’ll see your example of trash weed policy and raise you this:

Last week a judge told my PTSD Vet that if he tested hot for THC, he would have his probation revoked, even if he could provide a valid prescription for an approved registered physician under the Compassionate Use Program.

    Opioids? Benzos? No similar policy/stande.

  4. So hypothetically if weed is decriminalized or legalized at the federal level, can states like Texas still make it a crime to possess? How would that work

100%. Texas will it change their marijuana statute at all, regardless of how federal statutes change.

  5. You are not wrong. 1 out of 12. 8%. That's all it takes. This is an easy, "Is paying her to not release her story really a felony?"
    Hell, I wonder that.

How many times do people need to explain this to you? The question you ask is not none that is asked of the jury.

JFC, I hate this day and age of twitter legal eagle clickbait shit. Proving BRD that Trump explicitly directed Habba to make these statements would be required. One can, as this article does, easily draw that logical conclusion/inference, but that’s not how this shit works.

  7. It's absolutely relevant becuase he claims he never had sex with her. Which also effects HIS credibility. Additionally, it goes back to "So you paid a woman to keep quiet that you didn't have sex with?"

Pecker already testified about a catch and kill story that was proven to be completely false. There was still a reason to pay to keep the allegation under wraps.

The crime here is related to the way payments were disguised, in order to not look like campaign related. That crime can occur whether the underlying story is true.

To be clear it is relevant. However, admissibility isn’t automatic because something is relevant. That relevance (probative value) has to be weighed against the danger of unfair prejudice.

  8. Is that not some kind of perjury if he said in court - while happening to be under oath - that he wanted that day off so he could go to his son's graduation? Seems like a pretty clear bait and switch against the court

Was he under oath? Did he actually speak in court on the issue or did his attorneys advance that argument?

If so, prove beyond a reasonable doubt that when he made the statement, he knew that the reason he was giving was not true at the time he stated it.

    So…no. Proceed to rant.

  9. He cannot go “Free Palestine” without losing a shit ton of older moderate democrats, you know, people who actually vote. The kids who say they won’t vote for him probably weren’t getting out of bed to vote anyway. The youths were supposed to start saving us like 20 years ago, and yet, here we are.

He could get behind legalizing weed, and they would suddenly set aside Palestine issues, etc.

  10. I’d love to know if they can admit his extramarital affairs with Marla Maples and Melania into the record.

It depends on how that evidence is offered and for what purpose. Pretty difficult to answer at this point.

  11. I dont understand why the specifics of jurors should be released to anyone other than a group of people in the Judge's chambers. And then if it leaks from there, trace that shit and have folks sanctioned or disbarred.

Sure, but counsel can ask questions that reference that information during selection. Jury selection, other than in death penalty cases generally is a proceeding conducted in open court with a court reporter. It’s part of a public trial, with Open Court provisions and such.

Fun fact: In most Texas criminal trials, the State, after receiving the juror information the morning of trial…rushes a copy down to their office so that their investigators can run detailed background checks on everyone.

I just now have found creative ways to casually relay that to jury panels during voire dire, just to give them negative feels about the prosecution.

  12. I don't disagree, but even Israel's own intel pointed to Iranian retaliation being extremely likely before they struck that embassy in Syria.
With all they've got going on, can they really stretch themselves far enough to escalate and sustain an external conflict right now?
My main issue is how many American weapons and dollars are being used here. That and everyone over there just being dead set on wiping each other out while we sit to the side and toss dollar bills like we just rolled up hood rich to Chicas Bonitas.

Israel purchases weapons from us, AFAIK.
  13. Well duh. We're not incredibly wealthy people with access to politicians. No shit we would be prosecuted. That dichotomy and problem is the difference in upfront treatment and handling depending on your wealth.
We have a multi-tier justice system. My greatest wish is that trump would be sentenced to he tried as a black man, rather than a rich white man.

Wait. Do you know why we are even discussing perjury? Hint: it’s because a really connected person with resources was just sent down to do 5 years for the charge.

"Well, look, I already told you. Trump is getting special treatment that no one else would ever get!! I know the legal systems!! I am good at seeing the systematic abuses that the Courts let Trump get away with!!! Can't you understand that?!? WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?!!!!!!!"

    Golf clap.

    * would have given bonus points for constant misspelling “judgment”.

  15. 100%?

Lol. Are you serious? I was taken aback by immamac’s number of 40-50%, but 100%?

I’ve represented hundreds of DWI defendants. NOT ONE has ever told me that they decided to drive, knowing that they were impaired, because they couldn’t figure out another way to get home. Not one.

Virtually all of them either just chose poorly or, as is often the case, did not realize that they were LEGALLY impaired.
  16. With that disguise, how did the  press ever figure out that was Sweat in the first place? Also, our AD just reported a ~$40M profit in  22-23, and as that figure stops in June '23, it doesn't even benefit from the football success. Belmont should just have an unlimited Uber account that athletes can tap into  24/7.

What % of DWI’s do you think are the result of the offender not being able to find/afford alternative transportation?
  17. I may, or may not be under the influence of herbal medication, but is there a way you could present some sort of bastardize motion to suppress/ with the thing you want to suppress the use of the improper presidential records, act defense?
Then you file a motion in limine on essentially the same subject.   It seems like she would quickly bite on denying the motion to suppress.   In Louisiana practice, a court will look at whatever counsel calls it and disregard that if need be - and look at the substance of the request and redesignate the motion to the proper procedural vehicle.   if we don’t know what the hell to call it, then file it and call it something else and let the appeals court decide what to do with it.

In Texas criminal trials, we often file what our judges call “Motions to Exclude disguised as Motions in Limine”.
  18. It's just fucking insane that apparently our options are either "suspend habeas corpus" or "let trump repeatedly abuse the justice system with unchecked lies". What the fucking fuck? It's like y'all have this weird blind spot that makes you think trump is always acting in good faith when he NEVER fucking has

Link to someone asserting that Trump is always acting in good faith?

  19. WU was excellent. Mrs. Flaco relating how it is being married to a big celebrity to Colin killed. Not familiar with Ramy but he was a great host. Please Don't Destroy destroyed. Good episode.

Ramy is a talented standup, actor (was in Poor Things) and also writer. In fact, I think he directed the “Honeydew” episode of The Bear, Season 2.
  20. Dotard's suit against Colorado removing him from the ballot got resolved real fucking fast.

Yeah. A pure question of law with no facts in dispute will usually work like that.
