  1. Let’s try to keep this less cloak room. I just know in this particular instance we were, though. it’s only highlighted by the loss of life by children. Sadly that hasn’t moved the needle on true and effective change in the past. I’m so emotionally depleted right now.
  2. Help those of us who may not be as smart and want to be smarter. Any links and advice is welcome
  3. Canyon lake getting an enema.
  4. This. July 4th is a big reason. We’ll find that a lot of officials were on autopilot. Nothing will come of it. It’s the way things work now. True risk assessment and prep is hard. Yes there are mitigating factors…… but having done root cause analysis, the ultimate root cause is rarely identified correctly and it rarely rolls up to the level that it should. But we were failed by leadership and their complacently. Don’t let anyone lie to you and say otherwise.
  5. The ones that own the CAT dealerships / Spurs and the kids / grandkids etc
  6. One of the Holts posted that their kids are safe… one was at Mystic. But essentially HoH is completely decimated / destroyed.
  7. If anyone has any advice or resources about properly talking about this kind of stuff with children, I’m all ears. I don’t really have the most experience talking to my children about loss outside of great grandparents … which is weirdly easier because they have lived a full life. But idk how I’m going to tell my girls that Jane has died and about the girls at camp mystic. They literally just had the best experience of their little lives at camp and I’m going to burst that bubble a week later. its minor compared to what other are going through. And I know we’re still in it right now / don’t have answers, But I’m trying to start to think about how I’m going to break this to my girls.
  8. Having literally driven that stretch of 39 last weekend to get my kids at HoH, I can’t even wrap my head around just how high that water was. My gawd.
  9. Water that high is not safe. Even if you can ‘pass’ it, the water force being put on it is not something you want to fuck with. We over design bridges, but you can’t see debris / silt under the water line. If enough collects, you can create localized events of obstructed flow, increase force / pressure, and a catastrophic bridge collapse / event. Don’t fuck with it. Turn around and don’t drown.
  10. if you guys have a ROKU or a streaming device, search for you local station on it. Not for the live channel, but for its app. Ex) KSAT+ app. They’re live streaming on it. Just FYI
  11. I’ve been really impressed with how this Kerrville City Manager handles himself on the mic and how organized in thought he is. Don’t know how he is as a city manager…. But he’s A far cry from the county judge who was about as shit as a gov official can be and has been completely absent since. WTF
  12. Yep. Cayon Lake is saving many lives and properties. if it wasn’t for a super low lake, we’d be looking at even more of a a disaster.
  13. News just said lake up 2’
  14. @10 I think.
  15. When young and dumb, I camped in Enchanted Park and it rained overnight. Some heavy rain when dark. But coming from Houston I didn’t think much of it. I was ‘used to the rain’. Morning it’s still raining. Friend and I get a, no other way to describe it but ‘I think we need to gtfo feeling. We start booking it. We almost got trapped in the park. I have a snipit in my head of being cut off at more than a couple locations due to high water and that dry creek bed on the eastern side of the park swollen with angry water and full on logs / trees being swept away. Haven’t thought about that in years. PTSD activated!
  16. I always remember reading that plaque next to the falls when visiting as a kid, that showed an older black and white photo of a flash flood at the falls and thinking ‘no way’. Welp. Yes way.
  17. Feature not a bug. 1.) it allows for a scapegoat 2.) it ‘proves’ their original assertion that the NWS was a waste of $ because they don’t even do their job well. The circular stupidity works with their cult.
  18. Yeah…… the weird insistence about no one knowing… pointing the finger to the national weather service…. And weirdly the media is too much of “The lady doth protest too much, methinks” vibes.
  19. So happy they were ok.🤘🏻 To focus on something a least somewhat light heartened… the older brother obviously did not dig that bus ride.
  20. The idea of the water being 10’ higher than the 281 bridge is nuts. ive driven over the Guadalupe so many times here I can’t really wrap my head around it.
  21. Getting ‘we didn’t want to evacuate’ because that’s not good for July 4th business vibes Or maybe it was simpler and they got lazy, the National weather service isn’t what it once was, and simple ineptitude.
  22. No. But there’s a weird amount of saying that ‘no one could have predicted this’ The political folks out here doing cya. DPS and the National Guard and Sheriff the only ones giving answer real answers.
  23. He’s talking about concepts of a rescue. This is a worthless presser, a photo op, political, and disgusting. Im sorry. Kids are missing. We need answers. This isn’t political I’d be pissed either side.
  24. Greg Abbot distracting people talking about God instead of giving answer. Shut the fuck up and tell us WTF the state is doing and who’s missing and the kids.
  25. If his wife made the call, then once the dust settles he’ll wish he was washed away. Bro won’t hear the end of that.
