I'm honestly impressed by @realgreggym's ability to make a post that is not only so perfectly the literal exact opposite of reality, but has been proven to be so to every person with a functioning brain this quickly.
It's just Paradox (games) brain. Someone showed him Crusader Kings or Hearts of Iron and he was like "wait, you can move the lines on the map?" And then he realized that's what Putin was doing and wanted to join the fun.
I'm honestly stunned that someone who's been pretty politically engaged for decades hasn't heard of Sam. He's not Dan Rather or anything, but he's very well known on the left.
It's infuriating, but the thing to keep in mind is that these polls are essentially lagging indicators, because the majority of those polled don't pay much (if any) attention and have no idea what's going on yet. There's no constituency outside of Trump's really rabid base of support for a trade war (or an actual shooting war) with Canada. That might change as he escalates shit and really ramps up the propaganda to support an invasion, but I doubt it.
He really should have started with Mexico. The American people would've been a lot more likely to tolerate this shit with them.

The best definition of fascism comes from Roger Griffin, who defines it as palingenetic ultranationalism. That can sound kind of wonky though since nobody knows what palingenesis is and still sort of sounds like an ideology even though fascism isn't really ideological, so Umberto Eco's 14 traits of ur-fascism is probably the best way to explain it to most people:
