  1. Just got back from seeing Interstellar on the big screen and wow just wow. Really glad my wife got to see it in a theater since she missed it the first time around. Seeing it in IMAX later this year is going to be incredible too.
  2. Try going to regmovies.com and search for interstellar. For example on April 17th there are about five theaters showing it around my area in NC. I think it's one day only
  3. I was just talking about this with my wife. I love Inception too and thought the use of dreams was really cool, but I see it as more of an action movie, almost like a video game with the snow level, shootouts, etc. I think Interstellar's themes hit a lot harder with dealing with the end of the world, famine, etc as well as the survival drive like through Mann's character. I also loved how it incorporated footage from Ken Burns' documentary at the beginning. Looking forward to seeing them both again on the big screen in a few weeks
  4. Interstellar is either my first or second favorite movie and I was pretty pumped to find out that it's being re-released in a few weeks at certain Regal cinemas. Not sure if it's nationwide but I'm planning to see it close to Charlotte. I think it's part of a Christopher Nolan thing since the same theater is showing Inception a week later. I'm still holding out hope that they release it in Imax later this year since this year marks its 10-year anniversary. My wife knows I love the movie and bought me the screenplay for Christmas this past year. What do you Horns think of the movie? I still don't understand all the physics but I love the story and of course the music is incredible being Hans Zimmer.
  5. I thought the failed bomb staircase experiment in the last episode hit a lot heavier in the show than in the books. You could really feel the despair and shock when the probe veered off course compared to how it was written. I really do hope Netflix greenlights a second season.
  6. The scene with Will Downing in episode 6 as Jin gets there moments too late... just as impactful as when I read it in the book. I really hope Netflix gives us a Season 2 renewal soon.
  7. Definitely a callback to the scene in GOT when he realizes Lady Tyrell isn't just talking nonsense when they're all gathered in the Red Keep and Cercsei is conspicuously absent
  8. Lurker here but I've been really impressed with how Netflix has adapted the books so far. I just finished the trilogy about a week ago but am tempted to start it all over again. My wife hasn't read the books and it's really enjoying the series too. I know Netflix had to add drama, love interests etc to keep the casuals interested but so far they've pulled it off, and it's been cool seeing how some of the events from the book got carried over to the show. I'm seriously considering watching the series on Amazon Prime once we're done with the Netflix version
  9. I just finished the trilogy and I can tell it's going to stick with me for a while and I'm already thinking about rereading it. I thought the first episode was really good and did a great job of visualizing some of the ideas from the book. My wife hasn't read the books and loved the first episode. I'm looking forward to watching her reactions to some of the plot points I already know about
  10. Thanks everyone, I definitely figured we were trying to pack too much into a small window of time, so we'll be cutting out some other stops. We're planning to go in late May so hopefully the weather will be good. Another friend of mine yesterday was telling me you also have to jump on the park reservations really early since they fill up fast, did you all have that issue? Maybe a Moab/Grand Canyon trip is more realistic for us, and we can do Colorado and New Mexico some other time.
  11. Hi everyone, I don't post here often but you all have lots of useful and entertaining threads including this one. My wife and I live in NC and we're thinking of doing a trip to the southwest this year. I've been to California but never to Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, or Utah and we really want to visit some of the national parks. I've never seen a desert or the Grand Canyon either so I think it will be pretty amazing. We'll have about 10 days total and we're trying to find that balance between seeing everything we want to see and not totally exhausting ourselves from driving so much. We're working on a light framework for our trip, but right now we're thinking of flying into Denver, renting a car and driving to Rocky Mountain National Park and staying at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park. We were then thinking about staying at the hot springs in Glenwood Springs CO and from there we would drive to Moab UT to see Arches, then drive to Bryce Canyon and Zion the next day. We'd hit the Grand Canyon after for two days, then drive to the Four Corners Monument and Mesa Verde. We'd head to Santa Fe for a day or two, then drive back through Colorado to fly out of Denver. Right now it's a ton of driving basically every day but there is a ton we want to see. Any ideas or suggestions of places to stay would definitely be appreciated. Not sure if we can pull all this off in 10 days so we might have to cut a few more places out. As it is my wife really wanted to go to Yellowstone but that would be way out of the way for the circuit we want to take. Thanks!

    Colombia

There's not a lot to do in Bogotá if you don't live there imo. Just catching up on this thread and jealous of all the food pics. I'm really missing Colombia lately so I have to make some plan this year to get back down there. I might try to get my friends to run the half marathon in Bucaramanga in October
  13. Nate is a good dude. They spend about half a year or so in the States and the other half in Colombia. He used to be an accountant and quit to work on Spanishland full time. I'm a member of their Parcero program. For the price you pay, you get a ton of content in my opinion. Their podcasts are really good and they've covered a lot of interesting topics. It's amazing how much the program has grown in the few years I've been a member
  14. Have you tried Espanolistos? It's one of my favorite podcasts. As far as the rest of your post, how well do you know Spanish grammar? For instance, the phrase above "puede que sea mi culpa", do you know about the subjunctive and why the verb Ser is conjugated like sea? When I first started out about 6 years ago, I started with a high school textbook and then a college textbook just to learn the grammar. Some people hate doing it this way but for me it's like building a house with no foundation. With regard to learning tools, Hello Talk is pretty futile. Try conversation exchange for more serious partners. If you have the money, pay the 150 a month for Baselang. It gives you unlimited online classes with a private tutor and you can change instructors as much as you want. I've never lived in a Spanish speaking country and I would consider myself an 8.5 out of 10 in fluency. I do more than just get by and it can be done without having to move.
  15. Like I posted above, see if you can take a day trip to Cajón Del Maipo. It's about a 4 hour bus ride in the Andes but it was incredible.
