  1. I don't think the point was about adequate investment, though on that issue we are hugely over invested. The point concerned the worshipful attitude that is now normatively enforced in this society regarding military, first responders, cops in general. Without meaning to criticize any of these practitioners, for society this is not a healthy attitude. Of course, health of society is not the aim of those leading this promotion.
  2. Well put. If slinging language like this around as a "management consultant" is one's life long desire, metier, etc, well, of course get that MBA. But, simply to "get noticed"? There are more reliable ways: work harder than anyone, learn more than anyone, help your clients more than anyone, help your co-workers more than anyone.
  3. In two words, fuck no. Invest in building your strengths. MBA won't make you a better leader, researcher, or engineer. Hard work will. Don't count on any education label to take the place of that.
  4. I get what you are saying, of course, and the normal system of accountability based motivation works for most reasonably intelligent or better people, assuming they are also mentally healthy. But, 40% of the population are way short of normal intelligence or have mental health issues that make competing, in the way you and I hold dear, very difficult. This hard ass boomer is very much in favor of much more help for this group.

    CPAC 2019

That was his most insane rant yet, and that is a high bar to clear.
  6. At $12-15 per gram for seriously righteous legal weed, who needs science?
  7. Possibly. More likely it's simply the never ending, always escalating battle within the female population. You got nothing to do with it.
  8. Couple of maintenance trucks in the driveway when I got back from a bike ride this morning....
  9. Congrats to you guys that are into this young. By way of positive feedback I can tell you the payoff, that is, when you can retire and live the life your reasonably want to live, is a beautiful thing. Once the paycheck stops coming, budgeting skills and living within a budget are at a premium. Make sure that among your investment etc skills you are building that you become expert at this. Extra points for achieving this expert level while staying married.
  10. I saw Muldaur in Anchorage, at some shitty bar, around 1981. She was by then a complete wreck. Abused the audience, etc. Strangely, I don't remember the warmup band. I'm sure I was in altered states by then. I wouldn't have shown up til about 9, with homework and whatnot. Show I remember the most: Brian Auger and Oblivion Express. Blew the freaking roof off that place. I didn't stop moving to the beat for a couple of days.
  11. Wow. I was at that 74 Armadillo show. Pretty sure my mouth was open and tongue hanging out the whole time. Well, I was 19. Such a great collection of shows there during my time. This is pretty much way up there.
  12. Christians in the US complaining of criticism is like wypipo complaining about reverse racism. That's not how this works. That's not how any of this works.

    Texas 42

Ha. When I was working on a gang truck out of Kilgore back in 74, we would play 42 each day at lunch. 2 tables, one of which had we two college boys against old timers, the other table all old timers. Whatever their ages. We college boys did not win a single one of these lunch games. Not even close.
  14. Just finished, for the second time in a few years, John Kenneth Galbrath's "The Culture of Contentment". Written in 1992, still brilliantly clarifying, vicously satirical, and prescient. Incredibly, features early Trump. Message: no happy endings.
  15. Opening the garage fridge and seeing the wife has loaded a new case of beer into it.
  16. Should we need the actual draft again, the conversation will be about issues other than who's in the pool. It will be about what the fuck?! My draft number was 51, read in the Daily Texan right before Ph 401k, November, 1972. Last lottery, as I recall.
  17. What is Bernies beef with the fossil fuel industry? Isn't he woke? Its the johns who are the bad guys, not the slaves. And the johns in this case are every energy user in the USA (and the world). Poor roughnecks and PE's are the slaves. We'll exclude the Hamms of the world from this pretty allegory. No one is perfect, I'm ok with Bernie. Seriously, getting usage down is the key, that will directly and quickly reduce production.
  18. And there is the logic of busting child porno home viewers: their actions are driving a terrible trade. Not saying the johns are equivalent in moral crime, but that the logic of being in the market driving the bad thing is already established as a juriprudent logic. (Layman view).
  19. Just sayin, any more points last year would be good points to have. And, those were quite a few bad misses. And, yes, I was figuring on about 6 td's over multiple drives and games, spread over the season, so as to not be too specific about which games could have been won last year, which would be a diversion of the main point. Lots of misses of that type. That's not math, that's arithmetic.
  20. Caught him doing 2 songs in the MTV flim of the 2016 crossroads in NYC. Can't recall the tunes, but blew the garden away. And me. He's come a long way.
  21. How is this going to make Childs, Kraft, and Wessel stop supporting and donating to cretins?
