  1. Killing a Full Proof while watching USC (we’re back) halfass beat San Jose State. It was very good from start to finish and I’ll probably open either a Deb’s or Whiskey Cake pick next. This one is a staple I love having around.
  2. That stuff is gross, maybe the worst toasted I’ve ever had. And who’s looking for Weller SR and not finding it?
  3. Yep, halibut. Biggest one in that pic is 20 lb which isn’t big, but acceptable. We only fished halibut one day and the weather wasn’t great so I spent way too much time running the anchor winch trying to land on the spots while getting blown around.
  4. I’d go $200 on one if you generally like Turkey, barrel proof and older and don’t mind a relatively oaky, less sweet profile. It’s really good and I get the feeling it’s going to be pretty easy to find in the next couple of years.
  5. Some photos of the North River up in Alaska. It’s had some minor issues like a fan mount breaking off the roof, house batteries not charging, electronics learning curves and trying to find every switch and valve, but we are burning lots of gas and catching lots of fish. The 425 XTOs are the real deal and there’s nothing like pulling away from pretty much anything on the water up her.
  6. 63* in Alaska, time to pop a nice barrel proof.
  7. Sea trial went pretty well other than some cavitation on the kicker where they had to add 5” to the shaft (that’s what she said) to get down further below the chine flat. I’m in love with this electronics package and the 425s pushed it to 53 mph with 1100 rpm remaining to redline until after break-in is done. It cruised at 32-33 mph and 1.7 MPG with is humorously way better than these boats do with Yamaha 300s. The dealer fixed a few small issues overnight, dropped at the port in Seattle and it’s now on a slow barge ride up to Alaska.
  8. Yes, Helmaster EX at both steering stations which will also allow the mains to be used with the chart plotter autopilot functions. I’m a little bitter that I’m not getting the new 450s, but knowing Yamaha it would be a two year wait to get them.
  9. Fishing cockpit MFD and VHF installed, 600W 3D and 1000W offshore transducers installed, trolling motor hydraulic autopilot installed, radome mounted on the arch. Cannot wait to test this next week.
  10. I drove up 95 through Idaho two summers ago and loved it, especially Riggins. There are approximately zero people, the climate is amazing and the scenery is great. Stayed at a couple shady Motels with my boy and then watched USC smoke Wazzu on the Palouse. Highly recommend.
  11. That’s hot, I love the big flared bows on those boats even if it’s something I’d never really want to own.
  12. New boat for Alaska incoming after signing this afternoon. It’s a 31’ North River Offshore SXL 3100 with twin Yamaha 425s and a 25 hp trolling motor. It’s off to the rigging shop now for 3 Lowrance MFDs, a radar, autopilot, vhf and some fishing equipment. Compared to our current 26’ this damn tank that should handle 3’-4’ chop like a champ and hit damn near 60 mph on flat water. Sea Trial is in two weeks and it will be up in Alaska by the end of the month.
  13. I’ll be in Woodinville this weekend looking at a boat. Is there anything distillery only to make it worth stopping in?
  14. I think most of us “letting stuff sit in the shelf” enjoy the collecting and curating along with the drinking. I have in excess of a hundred open and will let anybody who’s at my house try anything they want even if I know damn well they don’t know what Stitzel-Weller is or could tell the difference between pre and post fire Heaven Hill. Most people usually end up taking pictures of my wall and texting them to friends instead of drinking anyway.
  15. 8 yr MGP rye goes hard. So much rye spice, dry oak and heat. It’s like this summer in a bottle if this summer had a great mouth feel and long, sweet finish.
  16. Most of the special editions aren’t better than Maker’s 101. None of it rises to any level of greatness.
  17. We landed tonight a little before midnight and the baggage claim was a shit show. 1 is closed with temp barriers around it and a skinny one bag wide tunnel to the escalator up, 2-3 a teaming mass of humanity and 4-6 all partially blocked by some construction consisting of one dude running an angle grinder. The middle escalator was closed and it was generally the most third world baggage claim experience since the last time I flew out of an actual third world country. Austin makes the shabby airports in Mexico look great these days.
  18. Flew out last Friday afternoon and it was a ghost town, but so was SEA. When the meltdowns come they’re horrendous, but it does seem a little better overall lately.
  19. I was confused by the negative reviews on this one, I really like it. I feel like if it was released today it would be much higher on the secondary and better reviewed seeing how popular the finished segment has become. They also put it out at the gift shop all the time, apparently when it wasn’t well received they held a bunch back.
  20. $35 over MSRP, but I’m in Alaska where the high was 53* and caught a king salmon today so who am I to complain?
  21. We did a Carnival out of Galveston in like 2010 and it was certainly trashy. But they had a guy playing country and a floor for two stepping in the bar so we made the most of it. My favorite part was watching a lady (who weighed more than my wife and I combined) bring a plate heaped to capacity with fried chicken and eat it by the pool while watching the pool shenanigans. It was an amazing performance and the bone pile looked like a family of four had eaten dinner but this was about 10:30 am.
  22. I need to try that KoK. That and a purple top that isn’t Willett’s distillate are about the only things that I haven’t been able to try.
  23. Probably not wrong. Birthday Bourbon struggles so hard in a blind test. You really have to like the idea of it to make it work out. The crazy low bottle counts are the only thing propping the secondary prices up.
  24. I’m not even sure what percentage of adult Americans know or can spell this word. Wordle 716 4/6 ⬜⬜🟨⬜🟨 ⬜⬜🟨⬜⬜ ⬜🟨⬜🟨⬜ 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
