  1. Heading up to our place in Alaska for 9 days in June and 14 days in August with a three night trip to Auberge Etereo in Riveria Maya in mid July.
  2. This rye is good, but not $180-$190 good. It’s pretty classic MGP with more oak dryness than average from the age, but feels very muted because of the low proof. It reminds me of the Bulleit 10 yr where they seem to be aiming for an older high rye bourbon profile instead of embracing the herbal notes of the rye. I’m not quite at regret, but I wouldn’t grab another one.
  3. Picked up these today. Stagg is probably just going in the Stagg closet but I’ll crack the rye at the lake for after sunset sipping over the weekend. It’s sadly low proof but it’s the oldest MGP rye I own.
  4. Moist Marzipan? Get out of here with that nonsense.
  5. I think most of those boats come with a $50k-$100k electronics package as a part of the base dealer build because there’s a lot of profit in that kind of equipment. Since the massive boats on Travis are mainly intended for nearshore saltwater or much larger lakes it makes sense that they’d be fairly well equipped for low/no visibility navigation As a side note, I redid the electronics in my 26’ up in Alaska with a couple 10” screens, new enclosed array radar, chartplotter with AIS and 1kw sonar and feel pretty comfortable running 20 knots in fog where there’s no point even looking out the pilothouse windows. I love the tech and would understand having it on larger boat regardless of what body of what it’s on. But the open array radar spinning on a bright sunny day on Travis is pretty ridiculous
  6. Correct. I thought we were just here to post unicorns and share a few random cheap bottles that don’t suck.
  7. Absolutely not at that price. Boutiquey bottled a couple different HH corn whiskeys with age statements that routinely go for $100 or less or you could get a 40+ year Chronicles Canadian corn whiskey off the shelf for Rebecca Creek 16 money if you want to try some old corn whiskey.
  8. Hope you like it. $250 after tax for something you don’t love always hurts a bit.
  9. Damn, I thought I read they were aged down here. That’s disappointing.
  10. But it kind of disproves the “Texas climate doesn’t work for bourbon” theory, right? I know I thought maybe it was too hot and not enough cold but maybe the distillates just suck. That seems easier to fix than the climate.
  11. It was out the last few weeks, new green label.
  12. I have a 124 and 130.7, we will see how they stack up with 105.1. I’m a sucker for what most people consider too much oak so I’ll probably like it. I’d rather have a dry, less sweet old bourbon than catch any bit of young grain notes.
  13. I’m still buying these, picked up two more last week. I’m convinced now that it’s the best Texas aged product of all T time.
  14. Baby Blue and Diet. Or maybe just go to bed early.
  15. Perfect, I was using the 128 Woodford and it went hard.
  16. Auction score for about half what they’ve been going for secondary. I’m not sure I’d pay $250 for one, but life is short and I’m amused by the idea of 10 year Kentucky bourbon picked by a store in France, then repatriated via auction for the price of a Garrison Bros single barrel.
  17. It’s still eagle rare, but damn.
  18. ECBP never disappoints and the store picks are also great even if they’re 2-3 years younger. The tater bottles I post are fun, but the law of diminishing returns hits pretty hard after a $70 bottle of 12 year barrel proof Elijah.
  19. PM me and I’ll get it to you. Meanwhile, this for sure doesn’t suck. I could easily be convinced it was Eagle Rare 17 if it was blind.
  20. I feel like I need to give you a sample from my bottle. I just have a hard time wrapping my head around cracking this with 9 friends who like good bourbon and every single one hating it. Every single person I know who’s had it at least liked it.
  21. All my favorite Texas bourbons are distilled in Indiana.
  22. Redemption Wheated, HH7, Weller SR, Dickel BiB, Bardstown Origin, Eagle Rare’s been everywhere, Buffalo Trace picks.
