  1. FCB Texas running backs Quintrevion Wisner and CJ Baxter, who have both missed games with hamstring injuries, are on target to return for the Longhorns' SEC opener at Florida on Oct. 4 at 2:30 pm CT, sources close to the situation told Horns247 on Monday.
  2. For those who need a reference on how their scale works:
  3. Gerry said on Coffee&Football this morning that Oregon basically paid out the ass to get his commitment and he is going to have to be willing to accept less from Texas, if he flips.
  4. On campus today per Gerry https://www.on3.com/rivals/keith-dotie-249268/
  5. There was a segment on Arch and the rest of the high profile QB’s struggling in the first 30 minutes of College Gameday.
  6. A few team notes from IT
  7. A few team notes from IT
  8. Some notes someone posted on IT from the Texas One Fund event last night with Schloss and the rest of the staff: -First day of practice was yesterday - too early to tell how the freshmen will do -Pitching staff should be one of the best in baseball with our returners -ARod back pounding the ball from both sides of the plate (also was mentioned later on down the thread that he is getting a real look at SS) -Mendoza has put on weight and has more pop this year -Schuessler is joining the staff as a GA/assistant -More offensive bunts this year because of increased team speed - but the coaches are having to teach bunting, as most of our recruits were their team’s offensive star in high school and never had to bunt -Wins last year more due to team chemistry than talent - team came to play every game. Need to develop that same mindset with this year’s team -Must maintain mechanics no matter what the count for both hitters and pitchers. Coaches recruited more contact hitters, to cut down strikeouts. Pitchers cannot try and throw a “strike 3” pitch - will ruin their mechanics- must concentrate on throwing the pitch called and getting that to the right location. -Different recruiting mindset than what we had with Pierce. Coaches pick the kids up on Thursday night, eat with them (a lot of Matt’s dinners), kids come to team meetings and practice, with the coaches interacting with them throughout. -Coach Schloss reiterated what he tells recruits - if you are scared of the competition at UT, this is not the place for you. This is big boy baseball, and you need to embrace the challenge. -Looks like another great class for next year. -You can have more talent, play a perfect game, and still lose - that is part of the magic of baseball, and why the pros play 162. -Every day they come to DFF and see the sign saying our last national championship was in 2005. Their goal is to add a new sign. Said 2026 would be a nice addition… -New batter’s eye coming, with a new party zone in right field, similar to the Yeti Yard. -Getting taller foul poles to the correct height. -New turf next year, and they will take the “crown” out of the field - making it flatter. Schloss still wants the same “look,” with maybe a larger Bevo logo.
  9. FCB injury update: Wisner- Out Baxter- Out January- Out, but probably could play if it was a conference game Moore- Been practicing, should play Mosley- Could see some snaps Saturday Hutson- Turf toe, wants to play but coaches may hold him out to give Robertson a look
  10. Alex Dunlap's UTEP OL Grades (long post)
  11. 4th down attempts against UTEP 4th & 4 UTEP 44- Incomplete pass to Wingo 4th & 1 UTEP 22- Gibson first down run, drive ends in TD 4th & 1 UTEP 22 again- Gibson first down run again 4th & 2 UTEP 10 (same drive as above)- Manning missing a wide open Livingstone, INT 4th & 2 UTEP 34- Manning missing wide open Livingstone on post route The first and the last ones were somewhat in no man's land, which is usually a go for it. Maybe the first one is a punt, but against a team like UTEP, probably not. If we kick FGs on the two drives featuring the middle 3 attempts, we end up with 6 points vs the 7 we ended up scoring. I'm not disagreeing with the overall premise of kicking more once we start playing real teams. Just saying none of the 4th down decisions last Saturday were outrageous.
  12. I got bad news if they thought what we just showed wasn't a dumbed down version of the offense
  13. We are already one of the most undisciplined and penalized teams in the country through 3 weeks. I think everyone needs to come to terms with the fact that Neto Umeozulu isn't good at football, and there is a reason he isn't playing in his 4th year in the program. They were basically going to hand him a starting spot after last year, and he still found a way to let someone pass him on the depth chart.
  14. He mentioned that after the San Jose State game that they learned after their first year in 2021 that they needed to be prepared for a different defensive look every game than they've seen on film. I don't think they are surprised by it, but he probably needs to just stop mentioning it because I could see how it comes off that way.
  15. He already redshirted his first season here. I'm sure the market for 4th-year players who got beat out by Connor Stroh is booming.
  16. The next positive thing Ryan Niblett and Aaron Butler do on offense will be the first positive thing. It absolutely is not helping that we are having to play those guys meaningful snaps against any opponent on our schedule. I'm not the biggest DeAndre Moore fan, but he is Calvin Johnson compared to Niblett and Butler.
  17. Well, the 2024 OU offense was bad because their QB play was atrocious. So I think we are violently agreeing here. Very rarely are you getting a bad offense that has a good QB. They are usually the tide that lifts all boats.
  18. As Bobby and Gerry said all week, if Arch was this bad in August or last spring, he wouldn't be the starter. I'm going to guess he was able to throw swing passes to the RB's during fall camp with little issue. If we had an average QB through 3 games, all of our counting stats and offensive rankings would be respectable. Probably not elite, but respectable. Arch Manning himself probably left 21 points on the field against UTEP before we even get into the issues around him.
  19. He also seems to be back on the S&C tangent he was on in 2021, based on what he said on his podcast yesterday. Something about how the way we lift weights isn't translating to football strength and the top weight room performers are transfers.
  20. Bobby said this morning they expect to see Tre Wisner back on the field this weekend
  21. Looking forward to the junk defense Sam Houston put in during the bye week that will limit us to 14 first half points
  22. His inability to layer the ball or know how much to put behind his passes is the biggest issue I see right now. The pocket is rarely going to be perfect and you have to play football on the move sometimes, so the footwork/arm angle stuff is never going to be pristine, but he seems unable to determine when to put air under the ball and when to throw a fastball. He throws a 1000 MPH fastball to Clark on a sideline on the short side of the field. Then, on the wheel to Wingo and post to Livingstone, he has no feel for how much air to put under the ball.
  23. David Morris also trains KJ Lacey
  24. I ain't worried about Simmons in the least. Nothing these first 3 teams have done in the passing game has been conducive to edge players getting a bunch of sacks. He'll be fine.
  25. I'm assuming that is another PFF number, so I'll take it with a grain of salt. The OL ain't great, but it has been adequate in pass protection, and I rarely see Arch running for his life. If anything, he has created some self-pressure by bailing too early on reads.
