  1. Skatenigs with Long Black Car and Razorblade Dolls at Reno's Chop Shop in Deep Ellum tonight. I'm guessing I won't be the only old fart there.....
  2. It is a nice place to go dine, and they cover all the bases with some nice dining flourishes thrown in. Obviously, the dining room is fancier, the bar/patio is more casual. However, it seems like we hang on the patio or in the bar for random cocktails and apps more than we eat in the restaurant. Wine list, cocktails, brown liquor are all fantastic. For example, last night was a bottle of Ghost Block Cab with their (insanely good) Hummus and a Charcuterie plate, along with their complementary Popovers. It was all we needed before the show. The best Filet in town, however, after exhaustive research...The Woolworth. Repeatedly. And their service and bar ain't no slouch either. If that helps...
  3. Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Bobby Rush at The Majestic in Dallas tonight (I live next door to it). Headed to terrorize the Wicked Butcher patio shortly. Come yell out "Mule Dick" and say hello. After that, I'll be the dude in the front row in one of my B.B. King tour shirts (always difficult to find one in my sea of Metal tour shirts). Bourbon and Blues on a Friday, yall! Cheers!
  4. And yet...you know absolutely nothing about the town. Fascinating...
  5. You should give that list to Helobious. Sounds like he could use the help.
  6. You're welcome...ha! Seriously, glad it worked out for your big 10! Hope the rest of your trip was equally awesome. Cheers to ya!
  7. Does your wife not Backdoor, bro?
  8. I don't know about the quality of the BBQ, but, hell...I'd try it! I kinda want some smoked wings now, dammit!
  9. When we moved from Corpus Christi to Fort Myers (and then later back to Lufkin), we stopped at Moss Point, MS both trips. Intersection of IH-10 & Highway 63. Wasn't fancy, but there's a few hotel options and a few food options. Easy intersection with convenience stores for gas, coffee, and road snacks the next morning. It just worked. Surprisingly good enchiladas and margs at Hacienda San Miguel, by the way.
  10. I've spent a lot of time in that place since they opened...got the old shirts to prove it. Cheers!
  11. How was the weather?
  12. 15 places Helobious has probably never heard of.
  13. The wife and I really like Nonna Osteria if you're gonna be downtown. Small, cozy, excellent food and wine list, but without the pretension. For seafood, we like Ostra at Mokara on the Riverwalk. Or just go balls-out and enjoy the shit out of Bohanan's.
  14. Thank you, Captain Obvious.
  15. Well...duh.

Just so beautiful. Thanks for the rec.
  17. I figured I proved my Passive-Aggressive point last week with Helobious. I'm over it now. Been too goddam busy coming back to Dallas to be a 1%er to comment further. However...for those that gave a damn...let's continue on our adventures. On Saturday morn, we arose from The Westin and wandered The Riverwalk down to Boudro's right at 11am. Got a table on the patio. Ordered Prickly Pear Margaritas, Mojitos, and the tableside Guacamole with extra Serranos, and then we sat and watched the world go by. It was lovely. When it got crowded, we left. We relocated to Waxy O'Connor's. Walked all the way to the back bar. Inquired about allocated Bourbon (which they no longer tend to receive...at all...), but then we stayed for a few rounds anyway until the sports crowds got thick. Popped into On The Bend. Sat inside because the saxophonist was meh. Their cocktail menu was awesome, so was their seafood. Popped into Mad Dog's. Goddam, I have hated that place since the mid 90s. I just want it to be better each and every time. I'm not even gonna share our experience there. Fuck that bar. Went to Otro. When the weather is good, this is an amazing place to hang out. Great Riverwalk hangout with truly talented bartenders. We stayed there so long that my wife didn't give a shit about going to the downstairs Esquire (which was her original goal). Along with all the other places I mentioned in previous posts last week, there are many amazing places to hang out on the Riverwalk with your girl and just enjoy life. The Riverwalk gets a bad rap. Sometimes, rightfully so. Buncha fatasses roaming around, buncha hawkers, and...make no mistake...THE MEXICAN FOOD SUCKS..., but that doesn't mean there aren't great places to eat and drink. And I guarantee that Helobious hasn't heard of a single motherfucking one of them..... We didn't make a dinner reservation because I only packed 2 black t-shirts into a back-pack, intending to enjoy a Heavy Metal weekend, despite Helobious not hearing of any of the bands. Maybe next time I'll pack more into my First Class carry-on so I can live up to Surly's expectations. If we had made a res, it would have been at Nonna Osteria. Fuck Paesano's. Just sayin. When we did stagger back to The Westin, drunk and almost ready for watching reruns of The Office in the room, we bellied up to the bar at Zocca. Once again, their bar and food menu are awesome, but we already know that. I'm sure Helobious doesn't For anyone bringing a wife to San Antonio, I hope this is helpful. Too lazy to write more. Gotta add another 0 to my portfolio.
  18. If you wanna keep it old-school and still walkable from downtown, the relocated Blanco Cafe is at 201 W. Commerce
  19. Kudos on posting this. I saw this on Friday and donated. Horns up!
  20. Mainstream Kublai Khan Huh? What? Damn, dude, I was just poking fun, but now I’m feeling bad because I think you’re either completely retarded or delusional right now. Or…are you 12?
  21. Helobious has probably never heard of this band, but San Antonio has, though. Clearly, the Alamo thinks highly of them, and doesn’t find them boring.
  22. Really? So…Saxon? Doesn’t mean much to you? Riot? Them either? Rush? Triumph? Killer Dwarfs? Legs Diamond? Judas Priest? How about SA Slayer? How about Presence? Your familiarity with the SA Metal scene seems lacking.
  23. After a quick afternoon power snooze in the hotel, we headed out again. We bellied up at Ostra right when their evening menu kicked in. Helobious probably hasn’t heard of it, but they soecialize in cooking random things that come out of the ocean. Some people may find the ocean and things that come from it boring, however. We sipped some fantastic wine from some California guy named Orin Swift. Helobious might not have heard of that, but it’s liquid that come from a certain fruit, and well…I don’t really want to be boring by explaining the rest of it. Also, Orin may or may not be a boring guy, but he makes some good wine. After that, we took another lovely stroll through the amazing weather. Nobody shot at us when we walked throught Travis Park, so I guess that might have been pretty boring. We then spent the next 4 hours in front row seats at the Tobin Center. Helobious probably hasn’t heard of it, but it’s this huge box composed of stone, wood, and other materials. It fits a lot of people that like to gather and hear music. Helobious might not have heard of that either, but there’s a style of music that people play with bits of wood and wire. When they put electricity to the wood and bits of wire, it can get quite loud and aggressive. It would probably be boring for me to explain further. Our seats weren’t boring at all because we had views of stuff in front of us. When things weren’t going on in front of us, we then discovered we could turn around and talk to people behind us. Some of them shared some of our experiences, and I got to discuss places that we all played at in the past, and it was a real bonding experience. Fortunately, before that got boring, stuff would happen in front of us again that we could view most adequately. That process kept up throughout the evening, which is good because, otherwise, it could have been boring. Quite the contrary; my wife and I rocked our nuts off with all the other rowdy black t-shirt wearing motherfuckers there. So…ya know…not TOO boring…
