  1. Good points. It makes sense that playing assignments would be based on strengths and mismatches.
  2. It will be interesting to see how things shake out with Green, Cook, and Jamison. All three will be difficult to keep off the field. From what I've read, it seems like Cook and Green are the more polished technicians while Jamison is an all-around great football player who best fits at corner.
  3. Based on this analysis I'm going to assume he's our RB back-up plan. Hook'em Billy!
  4. He's right about what other teams are trying to use against us. Thing is that it isn't proving too effective.
  5. Some schools pay up front for elite recruits. That is known, but probably not as frequent as we imagine. I think that, if anything, some alumni pay for on field performance, which can still play a factor in the recruiting process.
  6. I am not saying that payments do not occur, but all the complaining about another school paying more money for a recruit that doesn't select Texas is getting pretty old. If we wind up landing Bijan and LVB, many other schools' fans will make the same claims about Texas. Maybe my sarcasm- meter needs calibrating.
  7. I don't totally disagree, but I'd rather have a Daniel Young at 3rd string running back than asking a non-Jordan Whittington WR to move to running back in case of injury.
  8. I'm pretty sure landing the top prospects has always been the goal for every team ever. It's just that you have to have secondary options who will at least contribute positively with the potential to excel if everything goes right. Those are "depth guys" who will hopefully be recruited over the next cycle. It's when you start missing on top targets at a specific position for several consecutive cycles that you develop a chronic weakness.
  9. I expect our defense to be the most athletic in the conference. Whether we are the best is TBD. We have question marks that need to be answered at corner, linebacker, and to some extent DT. The potential is there, but maybe still a year out.
  10. This may have already been discussed, but is Derrian Brown projected to count more as a 2020 recruit? I have no clue when it comes to the medical staff, but could this explain why the staff is willing to be patient in focusing on the 5 star recruits before shifting their focus elsewhere?
  11. I can easily see Karic being a healthy 280 by the time he hits campus and an even healthier 300 after a redshirt season. Assuming he signs, he's probably on the 2022 plan.
  12. More often than not talent leads to production, but it is common enough for high performing college players to be deficient in the athleticism or build that the NFL is looking for that recruit rankings should not be an attempt to project the draft. If anything, NFL fans are not the consumer base for recruiting sites. The fact that these guys would rather argue with their paying customers instead of adjust their approach is moronic.
  13. The fact that those guys cannot see that NFL teams draft according to scheme fit as opposed to collegiate production concerns me. Every year you see top collegiate players that are deemed to not have what it takes to make it in the NFL for whatever reason as well as guys who under produced but project highly for the NFL. Universities care more about wins and championships than what round their team leader is drafted in. Certainly someone smart could come up with a stat equal to baseball's WAR.
  14. As long as Garth and out 2019 recruits pan out well, I'm not overly concerned with OT recruiting for 2020. How things have changed!
  15. Lazy ass off season "research". Nothing about this is academic. They put in the minimal effort to show that they tried knowing full well that less effort equals more controversy (aka clicks). They get evaluated and paid by clicks produced not quality. Simple math. I trust Kyle Umlang with data more than those schmucks.
  16. Two that I haven't seen yet: 1. Playing through the whistle. 2. Purposely trying to injure your opponent via twisting ankles, tripping, super late hits etc. Shit's just wrong.
  17. I'm cool with either Milroe or Stone. Especially since both should have should be at least 5-6 seasons from starting at Texas, because we better be done with freshman QBs for a long damn time.
  18. Potential floor of Cedric Reed and ceiling of Tim Crowder. Is that better?
  19. Can't hurt our chances. I guess we'll see how badly he wants to play for Bama.
  20. My brain says this is not recruiting related, but my heart hopes this means we have received a silent commitment for the RB position.
  21. I agree with what people are saying about the character of Vernon and his family. What I meant was that teams will not give up on him and, if he goes aggy now, I don't think his Mom would not put up much fuss if he wants to switch to Texas come signing day.
  22. Either direction Broughten goes, I don't see his recruitment being a done deal until his fax comes through.
  23. I vote we have a weekly summary thread.
  24. Is there a reason why the football-crazed state of Texas struggles to consistently produce many high quality linebackers. It always seem to ebb and flow with some years being stacked. Is it scheme, player development, and/or 7 on 7 culture?
