  1. I have seen multiple people on scooters lane-splitting (dangerous and illegal), randomly switching from sidewalks to streets (dangerous), running lights, etc. Of course, I see that every day since I work at Congress/Cesar Chavez. It’s just worse this week. Maybe if you actually lived here and dealt with it regularly....
  2. I’m not a fan of Lubbock; it’s a place to drive through on the way to Colorado. It’s flat and ugly, but never noticed a lot of cow shit smell there, however (though I know they have stockyards). Dalhart, on the other hand.....
  3. That is a great beach and not too crowded I liked the Bay Course (especially the oceanside holes), but the Plantation course is a bucket list type course and just an amazing property, with incredible views. I would take Makai (or Prince, if they ever open it back up, though it is stupid hard) on Kauai over both. By the way, the little convenience store on the resort main road is the nicest convenience store I’ve ever been in, with pretty good food.
  4. I think the only top 50 place out that way is Buzzie’s in Kerrville
  5. So why not just get a slot by endowing a scholarship (legal) instead of bribing coaches (not legal)? The coaches knew it was illegal. My real question was how the admin didn’t catch on.
  6. East of 59 still has issues. Not so much for north of 20 these days.
  7. I know what STQ is, Champ. Just pointing out it’s hard to pass up. and they do have barbecue there. Just different, and more expesive
  8. Problem is it’s next to Killen’s STQ. Hard to pass...
  9. This whole story is crazy. How did it go on for so long with so many schools?
  10. And Buc-ee's. Don't forget Buc-ee's.
  11. By the way, there is a pretty good barbeque place in Fayetteville called Wright Barbeque. Much more Cen-Tex style than southern style (other than teh beans, which are sweet but pretty good). Worth checking out if you are in Fayetteville. They started as a truck and then opened a brick and mortar a little over a year ago: http://wrightsbarbecue.com/
  12. Yeah — I was born and grew up in Houston (and get back a good bit), but live in Austin now. Food trucks are all over here and part of the culture (not sure how many now remember that Franklin started with a truck). I guess I didn’t realize that food trucks had a stigma in Houston, because historically, not much has a stigma in Houston unless you say you’re from Dallas.
  13. I was wondering about this. With you being in the biz — are the major cities just too saturated now? Just a few years back, there wasn’t a lot of great bbq in the city limits of Houston, Austin, Dallas, etc. You’d have to make the trips to Lockhart, Llano, Taylor, etc. Now there are a lot of great bbq places closer to/in the cities. I don’t think we can say “there’s always room for another great barbecue joint,” because if you are just re-dividing the same pie, there isn’t.
  14. Gumbo (shared with wife as appetizer) She had the bone in pork chop (couldn't finish it -- it was massive) I had a steak special (it was very good) the cornbread that comes with the dinner is amazing. Sides were very good as well. The food is a cajun/southern mix. Wine list is not extensive, but has some good choices. We had dessert, but now I can't remember what it was. Here is the website (the space is small so you need a reservation): http://www.restaurantrebirth.com/index.html
  15. That was then. This is now.
  16. I don't have any real issue with the concept of the scooters and I understand the convenience. The problem is (and I see this every day downtown) is that a not insubstantial number of the riders either don't know what they are doing or just don't care. Frankly, my comment was more directed to the issues that SXSW causes for anyone who has to be downtown this week. More scooters just add to the mess.
  17. Restaurant Rebirth. Check the reviews. I am normally skeptical of Yelp for a variety of reasons, but this place is amazing: https://www.yelp.com/biz/restaurant-rebirth-new-orleans?sort_by=date_desc
  18. Living in Austin and working downtown, I get to deal with the clusterf*** that SXSW causes every year. Except this year instead of dealing with skinny jean-wearing man purse-toting hipsters, I get skinny jean-wearing man purse-toting hipsters on scooters
  19. Wow. So if we don't find somewhere for him to land, then next year it's "Hi, honey. I couldn't get a better situation together so I want you back, but just for one year." THAT will certainly work out well for everyone...
  20. Other tournaments we won't be in: Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions Tournament of Roses Parade Sherwood Forest Faire Jousting Tournament
  21. Maybe get a bowl of soup with it
  22. Looks really good. Where did you buy it from?
