  1. And what the hell is the internet good for if we can't argue and speculate?
  2. I expect him not to have a look of "oh shit I have to play" on his face when he comes into the game. Edit: actually thinking back on it, that has always been my complaint about Shane. Sam has more of a "I got this shit" attitude about him that is hard to quantify. Shane is always unsure of himself.
  3. Yeah, I don't think throwing them into games is necessarily the answer, but there is mental preparation that can be done during the week that we're obviously missing. These guys don't expect to have to come into the game at any moment, even though Sam is the backbone of our rushing attack. The "next man up" mentality has not been instilled.
  4. On a more positive note, I have been surprised by CJ and Caden Sterns this year, with a little bit of BJ Foster and his blitzing and hitting thrown in. I wasn't expecting those three to have the seasons they're having. CJ has made huge progress in his ability to use his frame to his advantage, and nobody expects as much production out of true freshmen that BJ and Caden have provided.
  5. I agree with the fact that we're trying to maintain the redshirt, I'm saying that isn't really a viable option for a backup QB in a QB-run heavy offense. It was a decision made in good faith that has bitten us in the ass. If we really wanted to maintain his shirt so he could transfer with two years, name Rising or Thompson the backup and have them ready to go.
  6. Are you even paying attention to the games? The look on his face was not one of a gamer ready to go. And it seems like Tech backup QBs do much better than ours, for one example. To distill my point, I don't expect him to come in throwing absolute darts, but be a little more mentally tough and ready to go. That's on both Shane (or any other backup) and the coaches.
  7. What evidence do you have that he was ready to go in the game? That his first passes were way off the mark and his accuracy improved as the game went on? That he looked like a deer in the headlights coming into the game? Being prepared to play means you come in at your best when the team needs you. That's not what happened yesterday. Shane knew he played poorly in the postgame if you watch the interview. I do think he and Rising should be competing for the start against OSU if Sam is out, though, because I agree he doesn't fit Herman's offense well.
  8. It absolutely is, see my other post above the one you quoted. The QBs need to be rotated more, at least in practice, so they know what to do if one or two get injured. Shane was not prepared to play yesterday, and we run the QB a lot. That's not a good combination. I have to wonder if the coaches have been a little surprised by our success this year and have been riding Sam because they don't want to fuck this up. I hope that's not the case and it was a mistake they'll fix in coming weeks.
  9. 50/50. If we gameplan to Shane's style and/or get 1st team reps for Rising we have a pretty good chance of winning. If we play and call the game like we did yesterday, I hate our chances. OSU will be fired up, as most teams are to play Texas. If Sam is ready to go I think it might rise to 60/40 in our favor.
  10. Shack's performance can basically be judged by how many holding calls he gets during the game, imo. If it's 2+, he's having a lot of trouble with the DTs. I think he's been called for holding in just about every game this season, take from that what you will. Our tackles almost never get called for holding, I think I remember 1 or 2 on Cosmi for the season.
  11. Our biggest weakness was exposed yesterday with Sam going down. Our backup QBs have not been getting enough game reps. We have to get them some practice at full speed if we’re going to be running the QB as much as Herman wants to. Hopefully the coaches realized that yesterday and do a better job of mixing in reps where they can. The problem with that is we haven’t exactly dominated anyone to a point where you feel safe putting a backup in over a healthy Sam. They have to figure this out to win the Big 12. Shane barely did enough to win the game yesterday. Edit to add: You could even see it on Shane’s face in the postgame interview that he knew we escaped despite his play.
  12. Kid, young man, grown ass fucking man, whatever. The point remains, dumbass. Get off his back.
  13. I’ll take what Collin Johnson said about Buechele on the LHN postgame - that everyone recognizes that he could have transferred and instead he comes back to work and plays the role of backup well. He coaches Sam up from the sideline, and hasn’t pouted about not being the starter for a second. He was obviously rusty throughout the game because he hasn’t had game reps in close to a year. He did improve as the game went on, aside from the deep ball to Duvernay. He started hitting the screen WRs on their front shoulder and made some ballsy throws into tight windows to CJ. So fuck every one of you talking shit about the kid. He did the best he could and we won the game. He needs to get better if Sam is out longer but I’m pretty sure he knows that. And I have never been a big Shane guy, I always liked Sam more. But some of you drunk fucks are insufferable.
  14. Buechele has played admirably to be as rusty as he is. He’s starting to hit the front shoulder with his throws on the screens now, which is a huge improvement from the first couple he threw this game. That last throw to LJ was perfect and LJ did the rest because he had a full head of steam.
  15. These Baylor fucks are clearly pumped up and shooting their wad. We’ve looked shook up ever since Sam went down. Gotta grind out the win and go to the bye week.
  16. I don’t think Shane is the better passer anymore. Even his completions are in the wrong positioning for maximizing gains.
  17. I was wondering the same. Maybe because they were both pretty much already falling when he grabbed the defender? It was definitely obvious and out in the open.
  18. Are we even going to try the burnt orange pants with capes this year? I think the Baylor game is a good one for it. Otherwise I think we’re gonna lose, you guys remember how good RG III was? And there were other good Baylor players, too, I just forgot their names. I think they muster up the courage to get us really drunk and then take advantage of it. So, so doomed.
  19. Texas has a lot of growing up to do still to accomplish the goals they’ve set. The good news is everyone on the team I heard speak on LHN yesterday is bought in to working each week independently of the last. We will have taken the next step in becoming the best team in the conference if we don’t come out hungover next week and simply dominate Baylor like we probably should. Go into the bye 6-1 and you start sniffing the top 6 in the AP, top 10 coaches imo. Gonna be fun to see how we respond.
  20. Hard to hear Matt Leinart over the OU sucks chant. And he was being complimentary. Good Longhorn moment. Let’s finish this.
  21. We rode the train down from Crestview and walked over around 9 pm to catch the speech. The crowd was already on both sides of Riverside, the lawn next to the PEC was pretty much full, the median was packed with people in lawn chairs, and the lines for the food trucks were approximately 150 yards long each. The speech was fantastic and I couldn't stop thinking "man I hope this guy wins". We had to make a logistical choice and could only stay for a couple of Willie songs, since we didn't want to miss the train and didn't know how crowded it would be on the way back. That turned out to be a good choice, because the 11:29 train filled to capacity and I'm sure the 12:03 did too. Another good choice was bringing a backpack with some bottles of water and a few chocolate chip cookies so we didn't have to brave the lines . All in all, it was a fun night of adventure that gave me a little hope in a time hope is needed. Now go vote in a month people!
  22. They were bad but fuck em. We won.
