  1. Check out Taskmaster on YouTube. It’s a British game show that he loves and basically forced his way on to. He shows up and attempts to burn the entire island to the ground.
  2. Won tickets for MMJ and had a great time. I hadn’t seen them in probably 15 years and not listened to anything new from them in 10. Just fell off my radar. We were second to last row, but dead center so had a great view. I don’t go to many straight up rock shows anymore, but they were terrific. I was surprised at no “One Big Holiday”.
  3. No concept of the "Common Good" these days.
  4. I can’t tell you how much time I have spent being neutropenic over the last 3 years. Outside of my initial in patient chemo and two transplants (about 20 days each), I’ve been to the hospital close to 15 times for 3-4 day treatment and monitoring. It gets real disheartening.
  5. Enough already with the fucking parking apps and QR codes. Solving a problem that doesn’t exist.
  6. Thoughts? I just finished the book and this is next on my movie list.
  7. My daughter chose Mitchells vs the Machines for movie night last week. I love that movie. Probably my favorite of the recent kid's movies. It looks great, is really funny and is heartfelt. Blank Check podcast just started their Coen brothers series. I hadn't seen Raising Arizona in a long time, so I fired it up. I had simply forgotten how great this movie is. Just so funny and top notch filmmaking.
  8. This thing had a few cool sections, but it was just a mess. The family from the boat was terrible. This dude was sailing from Barbados to Cape Town with his 18 year old daughter, her boyfriend and his 10 year old daughter? What? And then as mentioned upthread, but what was with his busted leg occasionally hurting? They should have cut that whole section. So, they are saying that they need blood from the largest dinosaurs because they have big hearts or something. Sounds stupid, but this is a dinosaur movie, so I'll take the ride. That said, if they need the blood of dinosaurs with big hearts, why could they use the fluid from an egg? Makes no sense.
  9. Cameron Crowe wrote that movie, so I am sure that was the joke.
  10. We get the weekend edition and point 1 is pretty much correct. It runs slightly right in the news section but the editorial section is much more right. It’s a good counterpoint to my left wing reading and opinions. They’ve been on Trump’s ass the last month or so for other reasons, particularly the tariffs. I wouldn’t poke that bear if I was him but the man is a walking representation of id, so he’ll do his thing.
  11. Watched some of this last night in HBO. It just LOOKS so good. It shows just how cheap some movies look.

    The Wire

Fuck you mothafuckas for talking shit.
  13. Well, we're taking the plunge and taking our 8 and 5 year old to Europe for their first time. This trip will be Paris and Strasbourg. I've been to Paris enough to be able to navigate and prioritize things, but does anyone have great things for kids in Paris? We are doing a kids tour at the Louvre, but don't have much else planned yet.
  14. Finally got around to seeing it. The story is whatever but I’m truly baffled how they made some of those scenes. Very impressive craftwork.
  15. Outstanding lead actress in a drama series Kathy Bates, "Matlock" Sharon Horgan, "Bad Sisters" Britt Lower, "Severance" Bella Ramsey, "The Last of Us" Keri Russell, "The Diplomat"
  16. They’re excellent but I think Ben Foster almost steals the movie. He’s cooking.
  17. Maybe she’s actually an evil genius that knows she’ll be called back quicker if she’s a loud pain in the ass in the waiting room.
  18. I mentioned this one up thread. Wow, what a movie.
  19. But isn't that a distinction without a difference? Either way, you are asking God to intercede. Where is the line that God can help? They can change the mind but not the body?
  20. 2005 Texas was only good because of VY, so they weren’t really that good.
  21. Just make sure you do something with it. I know many of the "we're praying for you" types that I have come across are doing it to just feel good about themselves for doing something without actually doing anything. If you want to be useful, bring my family food or watch the kids for a night when I am stuck in the hospital and my wife is doing everything in the house.
  22. I had a whole new experience today. I was waiting for a sandwich at a shop and some dude was watching The Family Guy on his phone. It was full volume where everyone in the small place could hear it. JAIL
  23. I have been struggling with the prayer issue as I have been battling cancer for 3 years. At this point whenever someone says “I’m praying for you”, I just want to yell “it’s been 3 years, what’s the fucking point? It ain’t working” To me, these are the options: 1. There is no higher power 2. There is a higher power but is unable to effect anything 3. I have been abandoned by said higher power Any way you slice it, what’s the point of the prayer? Is there a jar with my name on it, with a line and when the prayer count goes over that line, I am cured? I have basically ceased going to church outside of some things for my kids and since I explained the above to my wife, she kind of stopped asking me to go. I can’t imagine losing a daughter (I have an 8 YO going to Longhorn this summer) at summer camp and not feeling the same.
  24. I have a friend very close to me who has three daughters there. All safe, one waiting to be picked up by his wife. He was in another state getting his son from camp. Can’t imagine being that far. After I checked in, I decided to leave him alone but will check back in a couple days. I have a few other stories but it sounds terrible. We have an 8 year old daughter, so there are a lot of connections out there.
