The Texas Offense - One More Item By Bobby Burton The Texas offense currently can’t walk and chew gum at the same time. That much is clear. So every time I think it might be because of a lack of offensive ingenuity, I remember that this team can’t do the basics very well. Arch inexplicably fumbles a snap in the red zone. Given all of that, how is Sark going to be comfortable calling something that requires more finesse? This is not all on Arch though. The blocking in the red zone remains leaky at best, especially on the right side. Perimeter blocking is still an issue, as are penalties, as are running backs missing running lanes. The offense is dysfunctional. How does Texas manage that? Sark gets paid big bucks to solve such questions. -

Agreed. Get Caldwell at least a 50/50 share of reps against SHSU, see how the two do, and go from there. -

Sunday - Well Past Time By Bobby Burton Part of me remains in shock this morning, surprised by the QB play we all witnessed Saturday afternoon. I did not see it coming, not this level of struggle. It reached a level of complete ineptness. There were 10 straight incompletions, some that were true misfires, others that were ill-timed, rushed and three or four yards off the mark, one where he didn’t see what should have been his very first read for a first down on a fourth-down play in the red zone and another fourth down play to a wide open Parker Livingston downfield. The performance left me with so many questions Is Sark not helping him out enough with play-calling? Are the offensive line and the run game too inconsistent? Is Arch being his own worst enemy and getting down on himself after a bad play instead of forgetting about it and moving to the next one? Is his current level of confidence that fragile instead of growing? Is Arch just this naturally inconsistent? Is the offense as a whole and its players - with eight new starters - too inconsistent? Or, are the weapons around him just not all that good? After all, Texas was missing its top two RBs and two of its top four WRs. Three games into the 2025 season, the list above includes far too many questions. And way too few, if any, answers. ** Texas can survive certain shortcomings at the QB position. Errant throws, happy feet, too few weapons, those are things that almost every QB deals with. Texas has a defense that can win and win big in support of a less-than-ideal offense. But the sheer lack of self-confidence - or at least the display of it - is probably the most surprising riddle to me of the current Texas quarterback situation. That lack of confidence compounds itself and causes entire dysfunction on offense. We’re three games into the year and I still couldn’t tell you what the identity of this Texas offense is or should be. How does a team overcome a player - the team leader of the offense - who is clearly struggling mentally? The answer is surprisingly simple. All Arch Manning and the Longhorns can do from here is get back to work. That’s the grind of the college football season. ** Arch made some good throws in the second half. The touchdown to Ryan Wingo and the dig route over the middle to Wingo were authoritative and well-delivered. But Texas needs that level of play on a consistent level. ** On defense, there are some small issues that could develop into bigger ones down the road. Jaylon Guilbeau is getting picked on quite a bit. Guilbeau gave up a big catch and run and was beat deep another time and was called for pass interference. But the defense was clearly dominant overall. Again, this Texas defense can take the team far. ** Add James Simon as a possible solution at running back if the injury to Cedric Baxter is a prolonged one. Simon looked significantly better than both Jerrick Gibson and Christian Clark to me. Yet Texas opted to take Simon out of the game in most passing situations. That tells me the freshman may not be quite ready for pass protection duties. But it looks to me his timeline needs to be sped up in that regard. ** We’ve said all along these three non-conference games in the month of September were opportunities to work out the kinks. Well, it’s well past time that that starts to happen. There needs to be a sense of urgency. Again, all Texas can do is get back to work. Hook’Em! -

Two underwhelming (as compared to potential and original hype) QBs in a row. At some point, coaching has to be tossed into the conversation as a mainstream narrative and then we’re really fucked. At that point, what QB with real potential is going to want to come play in this shit show? If Manning doesn’t get his shit together, Sark needs to make a change and see if the problem is primarily with Arch, or not. That’s the only way to salvage this. -

No fucking chance that happens as of now. As it stands, Texas will be lucky to win 8 games. -
What are you blabbering about? It wasn’t a fake. Holder bobbled the snap.

This year may turn out so differently than we thought in the state of Texas.

They’d boat race us as of today.

Or justify an attempt (hopefully not successful) to pursue a third term, which we should all expect is coming. -

OTF Premium Saturday AM Recruiting Update (7:55am CST) By Gerry Hamilton Saturday AM Recruiting Update The recruiting battles for top defensive and offensive line prospects will carry all the way until signing day, December 4. Malakai Lee ... Texas and Lee continue to have weekly conversations. The Michigan 4-star++ pledge remains Texas' top target at offensive tackle that the staff is still pursuing. Kamehameha High's last regular season game is October 24, which means a possible visit to Texas in November could work from a schedule standpoint. If Texas A&M 4-star commit Zaden Krempin (Prosper, Texas/High) had a change of heart, Texas would answer that phone call. Corey Wells ... Texas continues to battle Auburn to hold onto the 4-star+ commitment from Petal High in Mississippi. Auburn is trying to get the 6-foot-5, 320-pounder on campus again today. Auburn will also take his brother in the 2026 class, South Alabama LB/EDGE commit Chris Wells. The Tigers are being very aggressive here. Texas continues to have daily conversations with Wells. There is a chance Wells will be back on campus September 20, but not locked in. Auburn is trying to get him to flip prior to getting back on campus at Texas. Texas wants Wells in the class, and the staff is fighting hard to keep him. Kendall Guervil ... Texas continues the pursuit of the 4-star++ Florida commit. Guervil, who tore his ACL in the season opener, speaks with Texas staff members regularly. OnTexasFootball will not be surprised if the 6-foot-4, 320-pounder makes a couple of visits to other schools during the season, and Texas would be one of those. Dylan Berymon ... Texas commit Dylan Berymon (Monroe, La./Ouachita) is visiting Ole Miss this weekend. The 6-foot-2, 325-pounder informed Texas prior to the visit getting out publicly. While Texas is fighting to keep Wells in the class, OTF is uncertain if the scenario would be the same Berymon. Jameion Winfield ... Texas continues its pursuit of USC 4-star++ DL commit Jameion Winfield (Richardson, Texas/High). Texas is working to get the explosive 6-foot-3, 305-pounder on campus this season. It remains to be seen if that will definitely happen. -
