Friday By Bobby Burton The 2026 Texas football schedule was released yesterday evening. Here it is: 2026 Texas Football Schedule Sept. 5: vs. Texas State Sept. 12: vs. Ohio State Sept. 19 vs. UTSA Sept. 26: @ Tennessee Oct. 3: IDLE Oct. 10: vs. Oklahoma (in Dallas) Oct. 17: vs. Florida Oct. 24: vs. Ole Miss Oct. 31: vs. Miss State (Halloween) Nov. 7: at Missouri Nov. 14: at LSU Nov. 21: vs. Arkansas Nov. 27: at Texas A&M ** Some thoughts: - Texas plays only one true road game all the way into November. But then the Horns finish with three of four on the road. - Tennessee is that early road game and it’s the first game of the SEC schedule. It’s a similar set up to this past season when the Horns started SEC play on the road against at Florida. - Yet again this season, it’s an absolutely loaded schedule. Texas is set to play four teams (Ohio State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss and A&M) in this year’s college football playoff, plus LSU, Tennessee and Missouri on the road, and Florida at home. There’s a real chance that, in all, Texas will play eight ranked teams in 2026. ** The strength of the schedule reinforced one thing: Texas needs to make hay in the portal next month. They’ll need more front-line players and more depth to get through this gauntlet. It would also be nice if the playoffs expanded to 16 teams giving Texas some leeway. ** As it relates to that early season Tennessee game, you may not have noticed but Jim Knowles was named the Vols’ new defensive coordinator this week. Knowles was the former DC at Oklahoma State that gave Sark fits his first couple of years and then was the Ohio State defensive coordinator in the national semifinal a year ago. Knowles likes to run a version of the three-high safety look that has given Sark’s offense troubles previously. That will be a subplot in the first SEC game of 2026.

So, the Colts, had they wanted to, could have signed him (not directed at you @TheAuditor, just stating what could have happened).

We're talking about portal! Not a game! Not a game! We're talking about portal! (Thurs. 12:05pm CST) By Gerry Hamilton We're talking about portal! Not a game! Not a game! We're talking about portal! Let's talk about portal to start Thursday morning. OTF takes a look at what positions of need there are. Quarterback Expected to return: Arch Manning and KJ Lacey. Incoming: Dia Bell Gone portaling: Trey Owens OTF: An experienced QB as a third teamer is something we are watching. KJ Lacey will be a solid No. 2. A redshirt is preferred and expected for Dia Bell. Doubtful Sark wants to be in a similar position as Missouri this season if the unthinkable happens. Running back Expected/possibility to return: James Simon, Christian Clark, Tre Wisner Incoming: Derreck Cooper and Jett Walker Still monitoring: Tre Wisner (NFL), Christian Clark Gone portaling: CJ Baxter, Jerrick Gibson. Rickey Stewart expected as well. OTF: An experienced and front line back is definitely on the wish list. Wide receiver Expected/eligble to return: Emmett Mosley, Parker Livingston, Ryan Wingo, Daylon McCutcheon, Deandre Moore, Jamie Ffrench, Kaliq Lockett Incoming: Jermaine Bishop Jr., Kohen Brown, Chris Stewart Still monitoring: Deandre Moore, and couple of others Gone portaling: Aaron Butler OTF: An impact wide receiver is definitely being monitored by OTF. Tight end Expected/possible to return: Jordan Washington, Nick Townsend, Emaree Winston and Spencer Shannon Incoming: Charlie Jilek Still monitoring: Jack Endries (NFL), and others OTF: A tight end is a possibility, and will be a need if Endries goes to the NFL or someone else hits the portal. Offensive line Starter expected to return: RT Brandon Baker Incoming: OT John Turntine III, OG Kaden Scherer, C/G Nicolas Robertson Still monitoring: OT Trevor Goosby (NFL), C Connor Robertson and others Gone portaling: LG Connor Stroh OTF: Three or four will be the number, depending on the NFL decision by Trevor Goosby. Right now, it's three interior players out of the portal. Defensive line Expected/eligible to return: Hero Kanu, Alex January, Maraad Watson, Josiah Sharma, Myron Charles, Justus Terry, Lavon Johnson Incoming: James Johnson and Jamarion Carlton Still monitoring: Hero Kanu (NFL) and Lavon Johnson. Gone portaling: Melvin Hills III OTF: Two over the ball players are possible. And not out of the question the number could reach three, but a third would be a 3-tech disruptor if anyone jumps in the portal. EDGE Expected/eligible to return: Colin Simmons, Lance Jackson, Zina Umeozulu, Brad Spence, Smith Orogbo, Colton Vasek Incoming: Richard Wesley Still monitoring: A couple. Gone portaling: OTF: One pass rusher is definitely possible. Linebacker Expected/eligible to return: Ty'Anthony Smith, Liona Lefau, Bo Barnes, Jonathan Cunningham Incoming: Tyler Atkinson, Rocky Cummings, hybrid LB/EDGE Kosi Okpala Still monitoring: Gone portaling: OTF: One 'backer is a definite. Defensive back Expected/eligible to return: Jelani McDonald, Kade Phillips, Xavier Filsaime, Graceson Littleton, Derek Williams Jr., Kobe Black, Warren Roberson, Jonah WIlliams, Jordon Johnson-Rubell, Wardell Mack, Zelus Hicks, Caleb Chester Incoming: CB Samari Matthews, N/S Yaheim Riley, S/DB Hayward Howard Jr., S Toray Davis Still monitoring: Malik Muhammad (NFL), Jelani McDonald (NFL), Wardell Mack and a couple of others. Gone portaling: Santana Wilson, Derrick Williams OTF: A combination of three at corner, safety and nickel are likely/definitely needed, and strong possibilities. Specialists Incoming: P Milkey Bukauskas, K Jake Collett, LS Trott O'Neal Gone portaling: K Will Stone OTF: An experienced kicker seems like a given, and experienced punter or LS is a possibility.

Intriguing Names in the Early Portal | Wednesday AM
-
Wednesday - Bobby While almost everyone is concentrating on portal transfers, there is also the factor of bowl opt-outs. As of right now, two seniors and one junior are opting out: Anthony Hill, Ethan Burke and Jaylon Guilbeau. The why behind Hill’s decision speaks for itself. He’s already announced his intentions to enter the NFL draft. Burke also makes a lot of sense. He is coming off perhaps his best game ever as a Longhorn and is considered a top two-round pick. No need for him to risk injury. As for Guilbeau, it’s a bit of a conundrum. At best, he’s considered a late-round pick and more likely a undrafted free agent. ** Others who have not opted out and are practicing with the team: - Jack Endries - Tre Wisner - Jelani McDonald - The entire starting OL - Manny Muhammad ** There will very likely be more portal announcements today and the rest of the week. Steve Sarkisian and staff are meeting with players all week long, including some key conversations that are still to come. Hook’Em!

Yes, he's on the Broncos practice squad, so they could sign him; but it would have to be to their 53-man roster and he gets a minimum of three game checks. Incorrect.

Chad Scott Out as Texas RB Coach | 4:18 p.m. Tuesday By CJ Vogel 23 minutes ago Steve Sarkisian will be in the market for a new running backs coach. Chad Scott is out as the Longhorns RB coach OTF can confirm – Football Scoop was the first to report. Scott was hired by Steve Sarkisian on February 19, 2025 and his tenure ends only ten months in. The Texas running back room was rather lackluster for a number of reasons in 2025, and as the team looks to reset its room in 2026, they will be looking for a new coach to command the room.

Texas Recruiting Notes 2027: I remember watching his dad play
MuellerHorn replied to BornAndRaised's topic in 🤫$9.95🤫
Tuesday Recruiting Notes (7:56am CT) By Gerry Hamilton OnTexasFootball compiled some notes in the last 24 hours to start you guys and gals Tuesday morning. Karnell "Greedy" James OTF stopped by Manvel High Monday for athletic period. I have known Manvel High for well over a decade in this business, and have been to Manvel High many times with the Mavericks having a lot of DI prospects come through the school since opening. Manvel High head coach Kirk Martin is a big fan of the recognition and eyes at safety Karnell James displays. Manvel High will also play him at corner next season, as well as safety. James recently turned 17, but he's a young 17 physically. He's not even close to what he can become. He will very likely have a similar build to Cedric Griffin in time. That means James will go from 6-0.5 and 170'ish now to 6-1'ish (lol, isn't 6-0.5 already 6-1'ish?) and 190-195 long term. What is the staff doing in recruiting right now? The positional coaches and staff are working on portal and having exit meetings, but they are also working on 2027. There are more out of state additions to most positional rankings, as more of the in-state prospects that ascended this season are known earlier in the high school season. The in house recruiting staff are bringing prospects positionally to the coaching staff, and the coaches are building out a new list of 2027's with plans to go see prospects in January. Coaches can no longer be on the road in December to see 2027 prospects. Texas also monitoring 2027's for another reason The Texas staff is also monitoring 2027 prospects that are looking at trying to reclassify to 2026. There haven't been any names truly surface yet, but Texas is very open to the possibility. Any prospect that is classified as a 2027 right now that has hopes of moving to the 2026 class wouldn't graduate from high school until late May. So they would most likely be a redshirt. -

Do you want to replace Brandon Harris and implement this strategy?... Pretty please.

Yeah, that was a really fun game from a neutral perspective. That Duke team also finished 4-8 and was a three TD dog that day.

December is for Decisions | Team, Staff, Draft (Sunday 2:50 p.m.) By CJ Vogel *** The stage is set for the Texas postseason – Michigan awaits in the Citrus Bowl on December 31st. For the next 24 days, there will be plenty to watch and keep track of. Portal decisions will be, NFL opt outs will be announced and coaching turnover are all on the line ahead of the trip to Orlando at the end of the month. Of those NFL decisions that will be made is the future of S Jelani McDonald. A source indicated to me that there is a belief that McDonald could return to Texas for his senior season should the NIL number be competitive. McDonald and his camp are evaluating both options at the moment as you would expect. There is also a belief that a strong senior season could land McDonald firmly within the top 50 picks or so in the 2027 Draft should he comeback to Austin. Additionally, there is no leaning one way or the other regarding Quintrevion Wisner at the moment. That decision will linger a bit. Other decisions to keep an eye on include: Hero Kanu, Connor Robertson and Jack Endries. For now, I lean towards Endries heading off to the NFL, but we will see. ** On the coaching front, there will be turnover. Where and when, that I don't know. An additional positional coach to monitor is that of Chris Jackson. A couple of sources have indicated it is no slam dunk WR coach Chris Jackson returns in 2026. Jackson's contract is up at the end of the season. Right now, that is one worth monitoring.
