Red Sox, Nationals exchange pitching prospects (MLB) Toboni addressed the Nats’ Minor League system on Monday by swapping pitching prospects with the Red Sox, the organization for which he previously worked. The Nationals acquired right-hander Luis Perales (ranked by MLB Pipeline as Boston’s No. 7 prospect at the time of the deal) in exchange for left-hander Jake Bennett (Washington’s No. 11). Following the trade, Perales slotted as the Nats’ No. 5 prospect and Bennett as Boston’s No. 7. Perales, 22, underwent Tommy John surgery in June 2024. He returned toward the end of the ’25 Minor League season and made three appearances between Double-A and Triple-A. Perales went on to start six games in the Arizona Fall League. With the Salt River Rafters, he was 0-2 with a 10.32 ERA, 31.7% strikeout rate and 18.3% walk rate. Perales, who signed with the Red Sox in July 2019 for $75,000 out of Venezuela, has a Major League estimated time of arrival of 2027. MLB Pipeline’s Sam Dykstra evaluated him with an overall scouting grade of 50 (fastball, 70; slider, 50; cutter, 55; splitter, 55; control, 40). Dykstra wrote the following of Perales: "Perales makes up for a lack of physicality with lightning-quick arm speed that generates four-seam fastballs that averaged around 99 mph in the AFL and touched 101 with a flat approach angle and huge carry up in the strike zone. He made progress with his secondary pitches last season, particularly with an upper-80s splitter that features devastating tumble when it's on. He uses both a dropping mid-80s slider and a tighter low-90s cutter, with the latter pitch improving significantly in 2024. While Perales is athletic and gets down the mound well to create extension, he's also small for a starter and throws with some effort. He looked more like a pitcher than a thrower last year, cutting his walk rate to 8% (down from 13% in his first three pro seasons) and using his secondary offerings more often rather than just dominating with his fastball. His control wasn’t back in the Fall League, but it was still early in his TJ comeback cycle. There’s a high ceiling here as a starter with a heavy dose of relief risk, if the Nats can’t help him find the zone." The Nationals traded Bennett, 25, who also recently came back from Tommy John surgery. A 2022 second-round Draft pick out of the University of Oklahoma, Bennett missed the entire ’24 season. He returned in ’25 and went 2-5 with a 2.27 ERA in 19 games (18 starts) across three levels, finishing in Double-A. Like Perales, Bennett played in the Arizona Fall League. He led the AFL in strikeouts (25), ranked second in innings pitched (20) and was named to the Fall Stars Game. Red Sox send Luis Perales to Nationals for Jake Bennett (ESPN) Boston traded right-hander Luis Perales to Washington for left-hander Jake Bennett on Monday in an exchange of prospects returning from Tommy John surgery. Perales, 22, was ranked as Boston's No. 5 prospect by ESPN's Kiley McDaniel in August. He had Tommy John surgery in June 2024 and returned to the mound this past Sept. 13, pitching 2⅓ innings during three late-season minor league appearances for Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester. The hard-throwing righty averaged 14.97 strikeouts per nine innings in 2024 before getting hurt. Bennett, 25, was a second-round pick in the 2022 amateur draft. He had Tommy John surgery in September 2023, returned this past May 1 and went 2-5 with a 2.27 ERA in 18 starts and one relief appearance for Class A Fredericksburg, High-A Wilmington and Double-A Harrisburg.

Love this addition. This year's edition has some speed on the basepaths.

X-posting from an update in the coaching staff thread: "I was also told Juluke’s first meeting with running back Tre Wisner went very well. Wisner faces a significant decision ahead of the 2026 season, with the NFL, NIL opportunities, and the transfer portal all in play. While there are several boxes that still need to be checked, the early impression from that initial meeting was positive, and Juluke appears to have earned a sense of approval from the soon-to-be senior back."

Initial Returns on RB Coach Jabbar Juluke | Tuesday 10:25 a.m. By CJ Vogel Takeaways From First Meetings With Jabbar Juluke *** Early reactions to Texas running backs coach Jabbar Juluke are in, and as expected, the early theme has been overwhelmingly positive. Those initial returns point to a noticeable uptick in energy from Juluke, something that has resonated with multiple people I’ve spoken with about the hire. One source described it as a “seasoned energy.” Juluke, now 53, brings extensive experience from the college ranks, and that background is already evident in how he carries himself and connects with players. I was also told Juluke’s first meeting with running back Tre Wisner went very well. Wisner faces a significant decision ahead of the 2026 season, with the NFL, NIL opportunities, and the transfer portal all in play. While there are several boxes that still need to be checked, the early impression from that initial meeting was positive, and Juluke appears to have earned a sense of approval from the soon-to-be senior back. Juluke checks three boxes for me off the bat: Strong developmental track record Proven eye for finding talent Deep ties to significant recruiting territory The last box belongs to player relationships which is sounding like it is off to a fine start.

Tuesday By Bobby Burton 4 hours ago Amid the six starters on defense who had already opted out of the bowl game, it’s perhaps the seventh that will have the biggest effect. The loss of linebacker Liona Lefau, at least as it relates to potentially defeating Michigan in the Citrus Bowl, could be tough to overcome. Lefau is a between-the-tackles run-stopper, and that’s exactly where the Wolverines try to make their hay. There’s also the lack of depth at linebacker to consider. Beyond Ty’Anthony Smith and Brad Spence, Texas has just freshmen Bo Barnes and Jonathan Cunningham even on scholarship. ** Yet, over the long haul and into next season, this is likely the right decision for the Longhorns in an NIL era where funds have to be allotted judiciously. We all know Lefau is a good, solid player. But is he an all-conference caliber player at the position? That’s unlikely, even though he wanted to be compensated like it. So Texas will head to the portal (hint: they were already headed that way regardless) to upgrade the LB position. In other words, this was a business decision for Lefau just as it was for the Horns. I’m told to expect BYU to be the next stop for Lefau. ** Wide receiver DeAndre Moore has told Texas that he is headed to the NFL draft. However, he still has a year of eligibility remaining which he means he could theoretically enter his name in the portal instead despite what he’s told Texas. Either way, Moore won’t be returning to Texas next season. For those who had been wondering how the numbers at receiver might shake out, this is exactly how. Texas now has a spot open for an experienced, high-end receiver via the portal. ** Do we expect more opt-outs or transfers in the coming days and weeks? Anything is possible. Meetings with players about next season remain ongoing.

Good thing for them they just extended him haha

Offensive line recruiting: Five 2027's stand above the rest (Mon. 7:32am CT) By Gerry Hamilton 1 hour ago Offensive line recruiting: Five 2027's stand above the rest Kyle Flood and the offensive staff have a number of 2027 prospects that have been offered, but not all offers are the same. This morning, OnTexasFootball runs down the five lineman in the cycle that have the absolute full attention of Texas. The makeup of the five is four tackles and a center prospect. All hail from inside the state line. Offensive tackles ... Monday By Bobby Burton 1 hour ago The run on Longhorns headed to the portal has slowed precipitously. There’s been no real movement since the middle of last week. Which begs the next question. Will there be another run after the bowl game? Probably so. Behind the scenes, there have been multiple discussions from players contemplating their next steps. But what I think we’re down to now is a group of players who would rather be at Texas than elsewhere and who are yet to be resigned to not being a major contributor next year. In other words, the players in the portal currently are ones who saw no real path forward to meet their personal goals. The ones who have stayed still feel like there’s a path. So we’ll wait to hear more about bowl practice, which players are stepping up and perhaps creating a path for themselves into next season, which players aren’t, and then we’ll go from there. Of course the bowl game itself will tell us a lot, particularly on defense where the Horns will be down six starters. There’s plenty of opportunity for players to show us who they are and what they’ve got. ** Based on Gerry Hamilton’s reporting, it will be unsurprising if Michigan signee Malakai Lee either receives his release from the Wolverines or eventually enters his name into the transfer portal. Steve Sarkisian has had real success with a Michigan signee previously, that being first-round pick Xavier Worthy. Lee, who is 6-foot-6, 320 pounds, was long identified by Texas as that same level of a potential difference maker on the OL. Of course, it typically takes OLs longer than receivers to play in college, but Lee is thought to be an extremely high level prospect. Hook’Em!

Yeah, we're likely not winning it this year. Women's soccer was terrible. A&M got further than us in both football and Volleyball.

Texas over aggy in the title match would be:

But also, fuck you, aggy! Go lose to Pitt.

I also lol'd. That should have been the line for Stroh. He's laughably bad haha. "Connor realizes he's going pro in something else..." Surprised Endries wasn't mentioned anywhere in this.

From Bobby this morning: The speed with which Steve Sarkisian let go of Chad Scott and replaced him with Jabbar Juluke was faster than I can recall any other assistant spot being filled by Sark. While I was not told this, I have to think it comes down to a combination of culture fit and recruiting. Tashard Choice was a great fit for Sark at the RB coaching spot. Lots of energy and a certain vibe Sark wanted for his staff. A fearless recruiter as well. Scott was a little more reserved than Choice and perhaps a different style of recruiter. One thing I was told that certainly came true: Sark wanted a coach with deep ties to a major metro area in the Deep South. In talking to someone who covers the University of Florida, he said that Juluke not only has some juice on the field but also off of it in recruiting. In sum, I think he fits what Sark wants more than Scott did and that’s likely why Sark made the move so quickly.

Sunday By Bobby Burton Texas finished its first week of bowl practice. There are a number of opt outs, almost exclusively on defense. - Anthony Hill (NFL) - Manny Muhammad - Michael Taaffe - Trey Moore - Ethan Burke - Jaylon Guilbeau ** Muhammad has not announced his intentions to go pro a year early although that is the expectation. ** Tight end Jack Endries is likely headed to the NFL but has not made an announcement either. (We've seen conflicting info on Endries, but this is the most sure I've a 9.95 be yet. Unfortunate for us, as I feel he'd be a big weapon next season) Endries is expected to play in the bowl game. ** Players who have announced for the portal are not expected to play in the game. That list includes: - Trey Owens - CJ Baxter - Connor Stroh - Derek Williams - Santana Wilson

Friday By Bobby Burton The 2026 Texas football schedule was released yesterday evening. Here it is: 2026 Texas Football Schedule Sept. 5: vs. Texas State Sept. 12: vs. Ohio State Sept. 19 vs. UTSA Sept. 26: @ Tennessee Oct. 3: IDLE Oct. 10: vs. Oklahoma (in Dallas) Oct. 17: vs. Florida Oct. 24: vs. Ole Miss Oct. 31: vs. Miss State (Halloween) Nov. 7: at Missouri Nov. 14: at LSU Nov. 21: vs. Arkansas Nov. 27: at Texas A&M ** Some thoughts: - Texas plays only one true road game all the way into November. But then the Horns finish with three of four on the road. - Tennessee is that early road game and it’s the first game of the SEC schedule. It’s a similar set up to this past season when the Horns started SEC play on the road against at Florida. - Yet again this season, it’s an absolutely loaded schedule. Texas is set to play four teams (Ohio State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss and A&M) in this year’s college football playoff, plus LSU, Tennessee and Missouri on the road, and Florida at home. There’s a real chance that, in all, Texas will play eight ranked teams in 2026. ** The strength of the schedule reinforced one thing: Texas needs to make hay in the portal next month. They’ll need more front-line players and more depth to get through this gauntlet. It would also be nice if the playoffs expanded to 16 teams giving Texas some leeway. ** As it relates to that early season Tennessee game, you may not have noticed but Jim Knowles was named the Vols’ new defensive coordinator this week. Knowles was the former DC at Oklahoma State that gave Sark fits his first couple of years and then was the Ohio State defensive coordinator in the national semifinal a year ago. Knowles likes to run a version of the three-high safety look that has given Sark’s offense troubles previously. That will be a subplot in the first SEC game of 2026.

So, the Colts, had they wanted to, could have signed him (not directed at you @TheAuditor, just stating what could have happened).
