  1. Good news is right now it looks like they will have a 3 hour window to hopefully get 5 innings in. With our game being delayed it also means KState/TCU should finish before our game.
  2. This is the last I’m going to post about it because I don’t want to continue to beat a dead horse but it wasn’t just one bad start. Like I said last night he has a 5.09 ERA in his last 4 starts. Does that mean he can’t turn it around? No. Do I hope he does turn it around? Obviously we all do. That being said his fastball was down to 92-94 last night after having not pitched for 13 days, rest was not an issue which IMO makes what we saw last night that much more concerning that his fastball was down as much as 6 mph. Now here’s to hoping the boys bounce back tonight behind Stevens which I believe they will, win tomorrow, have a nice 40 win regular season, and lock up a top 4-5 seed.
  3. Well Pete and Tristan can go deep into games so you shouldn't be worried anymore about saving your bullpen for the end of the weekend. I don't know how many follow college baseball across the country but Arkansas has this guy Kevin Kopps who has pitched 59.1 innings out of the bullpen in 25 appearances for Arky. Arkansas hasn't lost an SEC series all year, nor have they swept and you'll notice in just about every series, their one loss is when he doesn't pitch. They ride him on Friday and they ride him on Sunday. Tanner Witt isn't to Kopps level yet but he is the closest thing which is more than good enough. We have 3 really good bullpen arms which is more than just about any school in the country can say. I would pitch Madden 4-5 innings and pair him with Witt for 2-3 maybe even 4 innings (pending how long Madden lasts) and then hand the game over to Aaron. Then on Saturday you are hoping Stevens gets you into the 6 or 7th and you still have a fresh Cole, Lucas, Wenzel, Shifflet, and maybe Aaron is available for an inning. Then Sunday you have Witt again and more than likely the rest of your pen in some capacity minus maybe Aaron. The game is fluid so it won't go exactly like that obviously but that is the framework I would operate in. Tanner Witt this season against Arkansas/SCAR/A&M/TCU/Tech/OKST/WVU which to this point have either been the best teams we have played and/or something on the line: 18.2 IP, 2 ER, 30 strikeouts, and 5 walks... That is elite, we should be riding him. I know he allowed 4 base runners against Arky but when a Freshman comes in for his first D1 action ever and records 5 outs against the best team in the country, all by strikeout, you have something special.
  4. I'm still high on this team, tonight sucked and was a kick in the nuts. West Virginia played about as good as they could with some big breaks and won by 1. This team could still do big things if they quit trying to use Madden like he is Jungmann.
  5. No I'm saying he is a 4-5 inning starter right now that is how it translates to how the Rays used Glasnow. The two are very similar, both tall, two pitch guys who throw absolute gas. The Rays unlike the Pirates said alright go out and throw gas for 4-5 innings (instead of worrying about getting deep into a game) rather than trying to get 6-7 out of him when you can clearly see the velocity tail off. In conference play Ty has a 3.71 ERA with a 1.3 WHIP while giving up a team high 6 HRs in conference play. My take is not an overreaction it is a trend. A 3.71 ERA is great from your number 2 or 3 starter, not your "Ace". His last 4 outings against OKST/Tech/TCU/WVU he has given up 13 ER (20 runs) in just 23 IP which is 5.09 ERA over those 4 starts.
  6. I disagree on it being an overreaction that he isn’t our ace. His projected potential is irrelevant as far as what he does at Texas, wish him the best in the pros but I don’t think there are many on this board that wouldn’t take Nathan Thornhill over Ty Madden and Nathan was drafted in the 13th round. I don’t think he is fools gold but he has faltered more times than he hasn’t against the best competition we have faced this season. I don’t think there is anything wrong with saying he is Tyler Glasnow who has had a career resurgence with the Rays. Why? The Rays unlike the Pirates quit trying to use him as a traditional 7 -8 inning type and told him to go out there and pitch balls to the wall for 4-5 and then we will turn it over to the pen. This year is a different story as I guess the Rays have built his stamina up, don’t sit down and watch Rays baseball every night so I couldn’t tell ya as it pertains to this years
  7. I edited my post before you even posted because I went back an reread your post to make sure I didn’t put words into your mouth.
  8. It isn’t a bad take at all. He has an elite fastball at times, not elite stuff. Their is a difference. Tanner Witt has elite stuff. Pete Hansen has great stuff. Ty... throws a 98+ mph fastball and when he doesn’t have that then what? You see what we’ve seen the last several starts. Pete throws 88-91 and mows people down, why? Pete can pitch, he can change eye level and command the zone East-West. Don’t beat straw mans to try and win an argument because I was simply giving my opinion. Ty is still a starter and should continue to be a starter; however, that does not make him the best pitcher on the team. And no Ivan shouldn’t be benched to answer your question but he should be moved out of the 4 spot, whether the best solution is in front of Zubia to see if that gets him more fastballs or down the order to take the pressure off I’m not sure
  9. Georgia went into Vandy’s house and bitch slapped Kumar so this is a bad take, but yes Madden does not look good and his issues aren’t a quick fix. Madden not our best pitcher and Texas will be fine if they don’t use him like he is our best pitcher but Pierce probably doesn’t have the balls to do that so now we wait and see what Pierce does. Madden is only projected to go as high as he is in the draft because scouts go “Woah, pitcher throw hard, must have”. Pete and Tanner are the two best pitchers on the team
  10. Ty should pitch against the 4 seed in the regional or the 3rd game. He has a lot to work on, I mean A LOT. He only has 2 pitches, relies way to much on his fastball which is partially on Allen because he is calling the game and partly on Madden because he only has 2 pitches. Only quality outing against a good team that he has had this year is against South Carolina and I’ll give him Oklahoma State although it got shaky towards the end. He shouldn’t pitch any elimination games if Texas can avoid it unless they start using him like the Rays use Tyler Glasnow because that is who he is until he develops another pitch.
  11. Texas should only look at two options any time conference realignment comes up. 1) Stay in the Big 12 and continue to be big fish with OU and look to start a conference network. 2) Head to the SEC
  12. Forecast is looking like they might need to play a doubleheader tomorrow
  13. Thank you! Player/Coaches deserve it and so do the fans
  14. I don't know what the restrictions are in Austin but as far as regular season and anything else specifically related to the University is all Texas' decision. NCAA can't do a damn thing. I believe the ACC just announced that their conference tournament will be 100% capacity and if the SEC hasn't already they won't be far behind.
  15. West Virginia needs to be working on their travel plans to possibly include traveling straight from Austin to Oklahoma City. Benefits neither to not get the games in this weekend. If you have to play Sunday at 9 AM so be it.
  16. Yeah ^^^ Its been storming all morning and their field is grass. No way it could have been playable with rain excepted later as well
  17. Speaking of resumes... How about the Nevada Wolf Pack, 21-17, currently 27th in RPI, 11-2 since they lost both midweek games to Texas. What looked like two, hold your breath thank god we survived one run midweek victories, has turned into two quality wins against a scrappy ballclub. Likely going to be the Mountain West champs.
  18. Tech beat OU 13-2 in 7 innings, they are now 7th in RPI, 2 spots and 41 points behind TCU. That gap could shrink on Tuesday unless TCU cancels yet another midweek game to protect their RPI. Baylor now up 8-3 on Okie State which is good news for any "Big 12, Big 12, Big 12" people. Moves the conference closer to being a 5 bid league which regardless of how you feel about other schools (whom most of which I despise), it does prop everybody up when the conference is good
  19. I think it is more possible than Tech falling. TCU got pulverized by ULM this weekend and were absolutely shut down by the two lefties that ULM threw at them. Pair that with how they looked against Pete... Jordan Wicks hasn't looked as good in conference play but it will be his last start at home likely as he will probably leave for pro ball. Could see him pitching with some juice as he tries to improve his draft stock. Way more likely that Kansas State takes a game or two from TCU with a great performance from Jordan Wicks than Kansas taking a game or two from Tech. And even if Kansas matches whatever Kansas State does to TCU, Kansas is currently sitting 59th in the RPI, Kansas State is 108th. The damage for TCU would be worse just because it is happening at the end of the year following their abortion of a performance this weekend (although Kansas State did take 2/3 from Tech). Only thing TCU could potentially hang their hat on would be an outright conference championship which would likely mean they swept and handled Kansas State. If Texas jumps up and shares it with TCU I could easily see Tech jumping TCU depending on how Tech finishes the year. TCU got out hit 32-20 by ULM this weekend in Lupton. I don't care how good your resume is (TCU has gamed the RPI really well this year), that is a "Woah WTF" type series loss.
  20. Tech won't be the one sent here, TCU is the team right now that I could see falling to that 13-14 seed range pairing up with us at 3-4. While I think we could handle TCU in Austin there is just something about giving a team a 2nd chance that creates new life and randomness. Tech offensively is too good to falter down the stretch. I think they end up #9-12 in seeding. Texas can make it all a mute point if they handle business. Based on what transpired this weekend Texas has a very real shot at the #2 overall seed. Arkansas has #1 wrapped up. Oklahoma State and Baylor don't have the arms to upset a regional IMO. Baylor will likely get sent west to Stanford or Arizona and Oklahoma State will likely be a punching bag for Arkansas or Vanderbilt in their regionals.
  21. Oklahoma and Baylor isn't all that relevant other than it would likely put Baylor outside the top 50 in RPI and put their at-large hopes on life support if they were to lose 2/3 or get swept. I just hope TCU and Tech play well enough that we don't get paired up in a super. Rather face somebody different than partake in a rematch. Save the potential rematches for Omaha. Oklahoma State and Baylor both wanting to get the game in is probably what it came down to
  22. Well TCU wins 6-4 but got outhit 10-5 in the final game of their series and pretty much got their ass whipped for the entire series. All I know is if I face TCU, I’m throwing a lefty with a helluva curveball because they couldn’t hit it if you told them it was coming.
  23. I don’t know if Jim has it in him but TCU needs a speech.
  24. That was never the question, the Big 12 would have likely gotten 2 but now Texas might be the only one in the top 8 depending on how Tech and TCU finish.
