  1. defense will improve from top 110. I know, I am using the outdated yards per game ranking. The offense ranking will be about the same, just less predictable. The special teams will be much better, more like the Alamo Bowl, and we should get some breaks in 20.
  2. let's be realistic. top 30 offense, top 60 defense. losses to LSU and one game we're favored in, but a victory over OU leaves us at 2 losses going into the big 12 game. Game is toss up. With so much depth caused by the injuries on D, we might even have the D come close to the top 30. All of the above assumes no major injuries. We always win the bowl game, so we finish top 10.
  3. Agree with most of this. Interesting that ESPN didn't focus on the seriousness of the play. I really think the player was trying to get thrown out of the game, because he was tired of getting beat all game long. Should have been thrown out and should miss first half of first game next season if he is coming back.
  4. Lol, so maybe Garrett has Jerry so buffaloed that Jerry is negotiating a small piece of ownership to the red-headed child.
  5. lesson I learned today is the DC for UNC is for real. They were so close to perfect. So few missed tackles, hard to believe.
  6. What are the chances nobody worth a flip will come here, the Y. guy using us as leverage for a pay raise, and we have to settle for Major? How stupid is this program gonna look if we announce Major in February?
  7. "Did we do anything that creative and awesome before Harsin arrived?" January 1, 1982 - Cotton Bowl- QB draw for the first score against Alabama - creative in the sense that Brewer was tired of running from the 'bama blitz, so he called timeout, came to the sideline and demanded a decent play. boom 30 yard TD. GD years - One year GD had us come out in 5 wide against OU. Totally confused them, because we hadn't shown that formation all year. OU adjusted somewhat in the 2nd half, but I am pretty sure we won. Don't have a clue who was QB.
  8. team doesn't want to be there. End of Garrett coming soon.
  9. gotta have points here if 'boys want to stay in game. D already looks tired to me. Can't depend upon bad eagles play calls all game long.
  10. if Todd gets selected as OC, then THerm will have masterfully managed to hire two coordinators who have quite possibly the worst records as college head coaches in the history of college head coaches. That being said, Todd's college head coaching experience was so long ago that I discount that completely.
  11. I remember offsetting penalties fairly early. Don't remember if Westlake committed another penalty or not. On the timeouts, it was if Todd knew his team needed to be calmed down and he did that during the timeout and magically the next play after the TO was a TD pass.
  12. Well, that makes an interesting bucket list type of thing. 1. Attend all three college championship football games in Texas 2. Attend as many as possible high school football state games. Interesting about McKinney, my former home town. I was one of the anti-stadium people, and nobody ever questioned my stat: The most expensive stadium per seat in American Sports history. $70 million for a 12,000 seat stadium. The big shots promised things like marching band concerts and playoff games. I didn't believe any of that, but it came true. Very surprised that there is a 3 year deal for the D 2 game to be played in McKinney. Referencing the above, the McKinney game started at about 2:00 p.m. and the last High School game in Arlington started at 7:00 p.m., so that is possible.
  13. Talk about a good, solid, fundamentally coached team, this is it. I think Todd was 2 for 2 - timeouts and touchdown passes. I don't want him as an OC, I want him as HC. I know he had a horrible time at north Texas, but some of the fundamentals tonight: 1. a DB looking for the ball while running backwards and catching the INT. 2. almost no penalties. 3. no mistakes in the kicking game. 4. A calm no-nonsense demeanor on the sidelines and solid interviews. He wouldn't even have to move. He could get about a zillion percent raise, and finish his coaching career with a 5 or 6 year deal.
  14. Or a rested, tanned and ready Peterson? He's younger than Urbs, right? I watched a shortened version of that Fiesta Bowl the other day and didn't remember that in an interview right after the game, Peterson gave his backup QBs credit for the trick plays. Has there ever been a larger talent discrepancy than that game that went the underdog's way? Talk about player development, wow!
  15. I still can't help but wondering if this game is our modern day Freedom Bowl massacre. Does anyone on the team really want to be there?
  16. Just got me thinking about the best bowl game I watched with my dad. We both sat in the living room and watched the 1982 Cotton Bowl, and I remember Brewer walking up to the line and calling timeout. We both looked at each other and said something like "good, let's try something else". We were getting killed and shutout by that 'bama blitz. Kind of makes me compare the coaching philosophies of Akers and Brown. Remember, Brown only succeeded because of "let Vince be Vince". If Brewer hadn't gotten sick and tired of that 'bama blitz and called timeout, the famous QB draw would have never happened. Sometimes coaches need to get out of the way and let the players play. I hope Tom gets out of Sam's way in 20. It could be something else. My dad is still with us, and we get to watch another bowl game together this year, and I kind of think it will almost be comical, seeing if we can predict every play or not.
  17. I think the 1980 Holiday Bowl was probably the first best thriller bowl game, so I would have put that one at about number four, just behind the 1984 Orange Bowl. Need to go back and watch that one again. The game was decided on the very last play I believe. I like their first two. 1984 Orange Bowl was the best that had national championship implications I watched until 2002 Orange Bowl - Miami against Ohio State. That one belongs in the top 10 as well. 2006 Rose Bowl - will never be topped. I don't think we will ever see three Heisman worthy athletes in the same bowl game again. I remember watching that 1987 Fiesta Bowl and it was the most boring close game I've ever seen. It was like a slow train wreck the whole game.
  18. Well, this reminds me of how we used to do things. After all these years we are still stupid. The 1980s version of this was Fred putting the best athletes on defense and refusing to hire an OC, while continuing to meddle in the offense. There was quite a bit of arguing over who got credit for the famous QB draw td against bama. How do we even interview a head coach? Tom might as well claim to call the plays, and let Sam call the plays. Probably get 2 more wins from that.
  19. My dog would be an improvement over TO. I’m only concerned with offense. This is fitting, Tom goes as far as his oc pick. Screw it up, you’re gone. Some lucky dude gets to take credit for defensive improvement for allowing tackling and covering receivers. If we are offering GH a 3 year deal, I see no downside for him. He can walk away a rich man after 3 years into a HC job, maybe here. Are we waiting for GH to not get a HC position now?
  20. Good grief. This is either a blowout loss for us, or the players show us how happy they are the old coaches are gone. I think Utah should be happy to be in a warm spot.
  21. This documenting idea is the winner. Because look at toms mentor, Mack, the big meddler, deciding to go big running game after rose bowl loss. Tom has to give in to idea to let Harrell run all of offense, and if he meddles at all he’s gone.
