I could see 10 days for MLB but I'd be shocked to see a CFB player out there in that time considering the potential for falls, hits, and even just the use of his core just playing the game. I would think 2-3 weeks is the minimum, but we'll see.

9/11 would be right at two weeks. It's definitely a faster recovery time than it used to be and a lot less invasive but you'd think it would be an easy target for OL to try to hit. Sounds like they expect him to give it a shot though.

    "last decade", how cute

I mean, if USC was doing that based on making the CWS when recruits were in diapers then it would be pretty cringe.

Semantics….Seems like a big word for arky

I’d also venture a “huge” leap and say a player holding a sign after advancing vs being plastered stupidly all over the stadium when you haven’t won shit are not the same.

maybe it was to big of a word after all.

Arkansas had advanced to Omaha plenty of times in the last decade, which is what earned the program that moniker to begin with. When that picture was taken MSU hadn’t won anything more than Arkansas had as a program to that point.

Doesn’t really seem like something to get riled up about either way lol

That sounds believable.  Jefferson was less than 50% passet last year.  Jump on them early and make Jefferson and/or Hornsby have to comeback on us by passing which will lead to sacks/ints.   Sounds good to me.

Yeah Jefferson is never going to be a guy with a 69% completion percentage like Franks had. I expect to see a lot more RPO and running the ball with the occasional deep shot to Burks. Would be nice if someone like Jaquayln Crawford or Ketron Jackson could step up and fill the void left by Mike Woods leaving for OU.

KJ didn't have a very good completion percentage against Missouri in his only start last year either but still had 300 all-purpose yards and 4 TDs. Of course Missouri's defense gave up a ton of points toward the end of the season so not sure what to make of it.

Hmmm…so definitely sounds like he’s out for the opener and will be questionable for Texas

No one really seems to know. He hasn’t practiced in about a week though. Some think he’ll be back for Rice but we’ll see.

Starting RB Trelon Smith has also been dealing with turf toe. True freshman has been getting first team reps in his place. Going to be walking on eggshells over the next few weeks.

Anyone have any dinner recommendations for Friday?

Hugo’s on the downtown square has good burgers. Doe’s is good for steak. Herman’s is a Fayetteville staple with a little bit of everything. The Catfish Hole has really good hushpuppies and a good atmosphere on game weekends. Hammontrees is “gourmet” grilled cheese for something a little different. And then Wright’s BBQ is the best BBQ in the area.

Those are the places I’d look into off the top of my head, there are others depending on what you’re in the mood for.

Their problem is the two lost starters (from a 3-7 team) were bad ones - their QB and their best defensive player. And the new QB doesn't seem to have been setting the world on fire in practice.

Grant Morgan and Jalen Catalon were our best defensive players. One was an all-american and the other might be a 1st-2nd round draft pick next year.

Jonathan Marshall was definitely our best DL though. DL is probably the biggest weakness on the team which is why we brought in 3 transfers there.

Yeah, uh, when you consistently “play terrible” against a certain opponent, to the tune of 2-8 in a decade, it gets to “I’ll believe it when I see it” territory. Texas definitely could beat TCU but it feels silly to call that a W when this group has dropped a couple in a row to TCU teams that were likely worse than this one is going to be.

Piggy isn’t there yet. That program was a total rebuild starting last year. They’ll be amped but that is not a good team. If Texas loses that game it’s time to look for another coach because that’s a colossal failure.

Also, beyond Wulaw’s take, the general sentiment on this site that we should roll teams like TCU but Arkansas is this big early season challenge against a quality opponent really makes no sense. Arkansas sucks and would be lucky to be anything better than 7th in the Big 12.

Really wish the Texas Bowl last year wasn't canceled because TCU would have been a good barometer for Arkansas against the Big 12.

It's pretty clear we're improved from the Morris era and were a cunt hair away from beating both Auburn and LSU last year (bad officiating in both) but 3-7 is still 3-7 I guess. Even A&M we only lost by 11 on the road which isn't too terrible with a first-year coach since they were a top 5 team. But then Alabama it wasn't remotely close at any point in the game which is to be expected. Georgia also put it on us after we led at the half...we're obviously not up to competing at that level of talent yet.

If we improve in Pittman's 2nd year I could see us closing out some of those close games and the record looking a lot better but that's not a guarantee. If you look at the "talent" judging by preseason all-SEC selections we only have two fewer picks than LSU (one of theirs being a kicker) and one fewer than A&M. We're also tied with Ole Miss yet they're picked two spots higher than us in the division, but one of theirs being the QB goes a long way. So I don't think we're lagging behind in talent as much as we have been but still have quite a way to go.

  9. The SEC Rant gets about 5x more active during football season too. It's a bit too much to keep up with. The game threads can be entertaining though. And they have some solid sub-forums other than the politics board which is about what you'd expect.

Hogville and Woopig for Razorbacks.  I notice a lot of poster on the rant have been banned by Hogville.  Woopig is most like Shaggy/Surly.

Hogville is very active but there are a lot of idiots on there. Moderation is strict on disagreeing with them or talking bad about the team/players. It's pretty polarizing. Here are some of the most active from other SEC schools:

Mississippi State: EliteDawgs.com and Sixpackspeak.com are both pretty solid
    Florida: gatorcountry.com
    Kentucky: catsillustrated.com (Rivals)
    Tennessee: Volnation.com
    Auburn: aufamily.com

What the fuck is pig heaven?

Haha it's a row of chairback seats on the very front row of the upper level. For some people it's their favorite seat in the stadium for the price.

And what lawyer kept them from calling it Hog Heaven?

Hog Heaven is actually what we call our on-campus team store, guess they didn't want to confuse the two. Only so many pork puns out there.

Maybe ESPN might not want to give a FOX game college gameday.  Ohio St vs Oregon and USC vs Stanford are Fox games.  I wouldn't rule out UW vs Michigan because its on ABC and will help them promote that time spot.

Air Force-Navy on 9/11 may be one to watch out for too

aggy in not traditional and hasn't been great since 1939.  Tennessee is a traditional team.  Arkansas and South Carolina have division titles (pigs have 3), something aggy, Ole Miss, UK and Vandy can't claim.  And LSU was 5-5 last year and on probation.

Every year that goes by I'm not sure if Tennessee will ever get back to what they were. Kentucky has been a better program lately which I never thought would be possible in football.

Honestly not much difference between Tennessee and Arkansas at this point except Arkansas had success in the 60's-70's and Tennessee did in the 90's - couple decades difference 30+ years ago.

Well considering Arkansas squeaked by when Tech's roster was light years inferior, I wouldn't be so quick to post this. Arkansas was more lucky than good in that game, but it's the tournament and lucky is needed more times than not.

Arkansas only had one player voted all-SEC, Moses Moody. It's not like we had a Kentucky roster with multiple first round picks. Light years inferior is a bit of a stretch.

brain fart. They haven't won. I blanked and thought they had in like 2012 or so but double checked and they didn't. Makes the Omahogs thing even worse

Yeah we've been to plenty of CWS over the last 15 years but haven't won one.

Though Mississippi State had been using Omadawgs even before this year when they hadn't won one either.

Even a good but not great OU or Texas goes 10-2 on that.  Arkansas went 2-10 so they think it's hard.

It helps that there were no P5 teams on the OOC schedule since Arkansas got a waiver for Michigan backing out of a H/H series. Not often you'd get Missouri and Kentucky both from the East in the same year under the old format either.

Really speaks to how awful of a coach that Morris was that he couldn't go better than 2-10 against maybe the easiest schedule we've had in decades though. Pittman last year got Georgia and Florida added and didn't have a Portland State or San Jose State and still won more than that.

If it was such a great idea, more teams would do it.

Yeah Arkansas is different than most states since basically the whole state only follows one team but it seems like fans are getting tired of "neutral" site games in college football as a whole.

Hey, so I live in NWA and was wondering where the good tailgate spots are or even a good bar that will be showing the game. I'm not going to go to the game but I'd like to be down in that area on game day. Just recently spent a day out on Dickson before a concert I was going to and was trying to scout some good bars but honestly I didn't really find one that seemed like it would be a good time on game day. Any recommendations?

I would probably go with either Farrell's, Foghorns, or JJ's Grill for places to watch a game. A lot of the bars on Dickson don't really get hopping until after 9 when the college students really get out. Yeehawg is one I used to frequent since there are several food trucks nearby but they don't have many TVs and it's a bit cramped for game watching.

For spots near the football stadium, Razorback Gardens is usually pretty popular for tailgating - it's a little further south across from Bud Walton Arena. There are some spots in Victory Village by the Greek houses directly across the road from the stadium but I believe those you have to pay for. Honestly it's been a while since I've actually tailgated though!

Uh, not really.  While you're right about the reasons, there are games scheduled there for the indefinite future.  It's like the dumbest thing ever but at one point, the population bases was all central and south Arkansas and Fayetteville was a rural outpost so that sort of made sense.  Now, there are 1 or 2 games in LR and they never sell out and the stadium isn't that big.

I think Arkansas only has two SEC games this year in Fayetteville.  The various coaches over the years have hated it, too.

Also, the differences of the fans is striking.  Fayetteville will have the corporate tailgate tent with a mid morning mimosa.  LR crowd is drunken rednecks who will leave a couch on the golf course.

It's gone from having multiple games per year there, to one SEC game, to now UAPB. In the latest contract they put in language to where the stadium has to upgrade the facility to a certain point by a set date or the UA could void it. It may not be any time soon but there is definitely movement toward more of a focus on games in Fayetteville now that Frank Broyles has passed. A few years ago there was talk of only having a game there every other year and letting them host the Spring Game on the off years instead.

It's fine for basketball and baseball but football there are just too few games for it to make sense IMO. Between that and finally deciding to play other in-state teams the athletic department now is getting rid of a lot of old, out-of-date policies piece by piece which is probably needed.

  19. 16 hours ago, Ignatius said:

It never made sense to me why y’all play games in LR; it’s what, like 160 miles?

Yeah it's about 3 hours. We're slowly getting away from playing games there but for a long time it was the political and economic center of the state back before northwest Arkansas grew into what it is now. It allowed our southern and eastern Arkansas fans to get to games a lot easier and became a tradition of sort of unifying the state by giving everyone a chance to see a game. Also there was a period where Razorback Stadium didn't have lights so we were forced to play night games in Little Rock.

The LR stadium is a shithole in comparison and we lose an on-campus recruiting weekend when we play there, on top of already losing one every other year by playing A&M in Arlington which leaves some years where we only get like 2 SEC games in Fayetteville. We'll probably continue to play an FCS game there every year just for Little Rock recruiting purposes and to appease some of the big money boosters who are still based out of central Arkansas. But it doesn't make sense anymore to play SEC games there instead of Fayetteville.
