Yāall gotta stop setting your expectations so high. Iām all for hope and optimism, but you always have to prepare for the worst case scenario. Expecting shit to go down today is just asking for heartache.
Personally, I think Urban has agreed in principle and weāre going to be very happy by this time next week, but I realize Iām putting a lot of faith in people with no apparent credibility or authority. Iām completely prepared for everything to fall through and for us to return to Macovic-era desolation and apathy. The distilleries will still make bourbon, there will still be good bbq, and I will still live in Texas. I lived through the mid to late 80s and 90s; Iāll live through this.
If he had said, āno,ā the Fox crew wouldāve done segments on Tomās likelihood of being fired, like Game Day did. I watched both, and Fox definitely tip-toed around the subject. Game Day was all over it, because itās clearly a huge story. Herbstreit basically said it would take an Urban Meyer-level coach to win at Texas. I think Herbstreit knows whatās coming.
The reason I could see things stretching out is that Urban is still trying to put a staff together and OSU is trying to make the playoff. I agree with alphahorn that the deal is probably already done.
I think Urban will mail this recruiting class in and raid the transfer portal. Heās getting Sanders regardless of when he announces. Thatās the big fish. A lot of the early enrollees arenāt going anywhere.
Iām not saying it wonāt happen tomorrow. My gut just tells me neither party is in a hurry because Urban is building a staff behind the scenes and we still have one game remaining.
Allen (so far) doesnāt lose games heās supposed to win. Last year, his four losses were MSU, Penn State, Michigan, Ohio State and then Tennessee in the bowl game. He plays sound defense. They force tons of turnovers. They were losing to Ohio State by 28 and damn near came back and won. They fight like hell and they play smart. I donāt know if his coaching style would translate to 4 & 5 star kids, but he definitely gets everything out of his 2&3 star kids.
Iād probably prefer to see him get another season under his belt, but Iām impressed so far. Campbell loses games he shouldnāt from time to time. Thatās a red flag for me.
Iām gonna give myself a pat on the back for remembering that from that far back. It may have just been a preliminary interview, though. Derek Chang is also former OSU. Honesty, I think Carrington would do just as well. If Carrington can sell the Herman program, heāll have no problem selling Urban, and the recruits already have a relationship with him.
I guess recruiting coordinators and strength coaches are different, but the guy at Pitt may be more recent than 2017. Or whoever said the guy at Pitt was a protege could be wrong. Iām just regurgitating what I read over 100 pages ago.
They typically have several. Moffitt pumps them out at LSU. At one point, FSU, UF, Bama and Ole Miss all had head S&C coaches who had worked under him. That was several years ago. May be more now.
I think that came out way up thread when everyone was trying to figure out what was in Pittsburgh. I canāt remember who looked it up. Mightāve been derpy...
Maybe, but Nick Saban tried to get Tom Moffitt to leave LSU and go to Bama with him. Many consider Moffitt to be the best in the business. Moffitt sent his protege, Cochran, instead. Iād say it worked out ok for Saban.
Supposedly Pantoni has a protege at Pitt. I would rather have Pantoni, but I bet weāll be ok.
