  1. I'd imagine most HS football players think they're headed to the NFL, but in their case it's a near certainty that's the case. Unless either of them is an elite student that NFL degree is likely the complete focus.
  2. Pretty much and probably for a year or two afterward.
  3. I'm disappointed just like everyone else, but the logic in choosing Bama right now is solid. Tommy likely had a committable offer with Bama until signing day. I'm not convinced it would be the same for James. Conversely, it would seem both would have committable offers here through signing day and would also appear they'd be welcomed should they elect to transfer down the line. Bird in hand with an elite program while your safety net almost assuredly remains in tact long enough to figure out if Bama is the right fit. As for Herman and Co., they need to play this the same way Helton did Bru. Don't disparage or burn any bridges. It's poor form and doesn't provide any benefit. Play the long game and see what happens. Meanwhile, coach up the guys on campus, start winning consistently at a high level and put more guys in the NFL. And sure wouldn't hurt if the powers that be took a long look at our membership in the B12...
  4. Malik gave him a thumbs up. Believe he recruited him while at A&M, so there's that.
  5. Agreed. At least moving forward we have an above average AD who should be able to execute a proper coaching search should the need arise. No clue if Pierce will turn it around this year or not, but if not and a change needs to be made I don't think it'll be the same debacle as last time. As for Shaka, that one seems done and will soon be another data point in addition to Floreal and M. White in terms of CDCs coach/hiring acumen. So far, so good with the first two.
  6. I think we're all going to end up very pleased with the Yurcich hire vs. the possibility of Harrell.
  7. Pierce was somewhere around the 10th choice to be the coach. Perrin got played by pretty much every agent representing a college baseball coach of any significance and the HC from Tulane was the only one truly biting. The whole thing was ridiculous.
  8. Pretty sure the only coach we let go who had any remaining years on his contract was TO. The rest were under one year deals. Also wouldn't characterize it as these coaches having no problems finding jobs. All of them eventually did, but only TO and Naivar ended up with anything close to the same level.
  9. Guess there's still some faint hope Savion Williams might make it in this weekend. And a possible backup plan in Edric Whitely for Rakestraw if his visit falls through. Should make for an interesting next 4-5 days. At this point, as long as Collins signs I'll call it good. Hoping for more, but he's the critical piece imo.
  10. Ok St offense rankings: 05 -- 97 06 -- 7 07 -- 22 I'd say that's a fairly impressive turnaround for an offensive coordinator and a large part of the reason he was hired as the HC at Southern Miss in '08.
  11. I'm definitely not bitching about Fedora not being hired. Of all the hires Herman has made during this reset of the coaching staff I'm most enthused about Yurcich. I'm just asking the question about Fedora and the consensus on whether Herman didn't want him or Fedora didn't want to be on staff. When it was published LF wasn't going to stick around I assumed he just wanted to enjoy his NC buyout more to fullest and only hung around here for a year to ensure his son got a start in the profession. But taking the OC position at Baylor begs the question. In terms of Fedora vs. Yurcich in terms of skins on the wall and a rep as an OC, I'm not sure the masses would consider Yurcich > Fedora. I'm plenty fine with Yurcich, but it's not as is Fedora doesn't have plenty of skins on the wall and a good bit of it in the B12.
  12. The interesting piece is why didn't TH simply elevate him to OC? THs choice or Fedora just wanted nothing to do with us after this year.
  13. Agreed and I'd argue it looked like a pretty weak extension when it was announced. Definitely not the type of extension that would lead anyone to believe TH was a made man at Texas.
  14. I'll deal with the occasional misstep from CDC, given all the positives he's demonstrated thus far, if we can avoid the colossal mistakes made by Patterson/Perrin. It's hard to understate how far those two dudes collectively set this AD department back. Patterson is by far the worst hire I've seen at Texas and there have been some real headscratchers over the years. But the bleeding didn't stop with Perrin. The Shaka extension and complete clownshow of a hiring process for a new baseball coach being the two major examples. The baseball hire was nothing more than him wanting to leave his mark on the AD department while getting played by a couple dozen agents. Ridiculous.
  15. Assumption is GIles would do the heavy lifting across the D-line initially and McGuire would assist, but do the heavy lifting on the recruiting front. Crossing my fingers TH can get this done.
  16. Both Collins and Princely on campus today. If there was ever a time to hire/announce the second DL coach, today would be it.
  17. Yep, seems like the hires have been made 24-48 hrs before word leaks as to who it is and then another 24 hrs before the school confirms.
  18. Doesn't sound like it based on the various reports out there.
  19. Sounds like it's still not decided. Due diligence and all that.
  20. Coleman should be able to assist with STs as well. He made most of his hay in the NFL returning kicks. Not sure how they'll all divvy up the responsibilities, but one way or the other they should be able to turn STs into a team strength. Dicker is above average, Buj at least average and Jamison has worlds of potential as a PR. Just need to find legit options on KOs and coach 'em up.
  21. Omeire is physically ready to play as well. If he picks up the offense reasonably quickly he has a chance to see the field early.
