  1. Nah, it wouldn't have been close. The score was 6-0 at this point in the game, following the plays you mentioned. These plays included the Colt injury (on the Bama 11 yard line), 4 failed attempts at gaining 1 yard from the Alabama 1 yard line, and a kickoff recovery that started us on the Alabama 30. If Colt had played the whole game, it would have been 14-0 at this point. The offense stalled hard and suddenly when Colt exited the game. Gilbert was having to settle for field goals (in part due to a limited playbook for a green freshman quarterback, and Alabama now being able to sell out to stop the run), whereas Colt would have made sure we got into the end zone each time. Colt was totally in the zone that evening and he had Bama figured out. I had friends who were trainers on the team during this time and they were with Colt in the locker room following his injury. When he learned that he would not be able to play again, he was devastated. He had a sort of breakdown, speaking and thinking out loud to himself, in earshot of everybody, about how he had spent the past month studying, living, and breathing Alabama football film; about how the game that night had slowed down for him; and about how he could see what the Alabama defense was doing before they did it. Our guy had gone Matrix mode, but he didn't get his chance to really show it. All we have is his opening drive, where he carved up Bama effortlessly and drove us right down inside the red zone before the watershed moment of Texas football this century occurred. I still blame Gideon here. If he just knocks the ball down on the fake punt instead of stupidly intercepting it, Colt would've started 20 yards closer (already in Bama's red zone) and the specific play we ran where he was injured would not have been called.
  2. Come on dude, don't do this. I'm not invalidating your other points, but you can't just take away the 2005 NC from Mack Brown's resume. Yes, VY was instrumental in winning the title. Brown recruited him. Brown chose to let him play quarterback. Brown and Davis chose to redesign their entire offense around this generational talent and took the shackles off to let Vince be Vince. That resulted in a national title. Vince won it sure, but his coaches enabled him to win it. Compare with Vince's stint in the NFL where Fisher had Vince permanently shackled and refuse to ever let Vince be Vince. To this day, I think Vince would have won a Super Bowl if he had a coach who actually understood how to use him.
  3. The Big XII conference has been crumbling for a decade. It seems highly unlikely that it will persist beyond 2021 with the way things are moving. If you haven't already, it's time to mentally prepare yourselves for this being the final year of the conference that we have called home and been a part of for the past quarter-century, for better or worse. It's time for one last hurrah with the Red Raiders, Horned Frogs, Cowboys, Bears, Cyclones, Jayhawks, Wild Cats, and Mountaineers who have been the source of both entertaining memories and undeniable headaches over the last 10 years. One last dance with all of these teams that we will play again only rarely, if ever. It's time for the Texas Longhorns to embark and complete what can only be described as a firm, final Ass Whooping Tour. And we will. We have a seasoned and talented team with a proven new coaching staff. You need no reminding that we have a legitimate Heisman contender at running back, on top of numerous other excellent offensive and defensive weapons already on the team. I also haven't been this excited about our 2-deep at quarterback situation since the Simms/Applewhite era at Texas. We're going to be good. And I'm tired of pretending like we're not. We're going to run through every team on our schedule and win this shitty conference on our way out the door. We're going to hoist the Big XII trophy at AT&T Stadium one last time, and I don't care if we toss it on the ground and piss on it afterwards. It's still going to be ours. So this is it, I'm calling my shot. I'm predicting a 12-1 regular season. We split games with OU, winning in December when it matters. Just as Texas won the final year of the Southwest conference, so too will we maintain our streak and win our final year in the Big XII. A quick game-by-game rundown of how this season should go: Louisiana - Sept 4 There will be a lot of buzz and snide remarks from outsiders heading into this game ("Hurr, upset alert but for who? Louisiana? They're ranked higher than Texas aren't they?"). And sure. Louisiana is returning a seasoned team coming off a 10-win (near undefeated) season last year. They'll have high hopes of doing the same this year. They'll come into DKR expecting to compete, and they will... for about a quarter. Texas will settle down and pull away, and we'll witness firsthand beautiful deep ball touchdowns from both Casey Thompson and Hudson Card, in addition to touchdowns on the ground provided by Bijan and Roschon. A dominant first outing. @Arkansas - Sept 11 Most of the nation will have missed our opener and much more of the same buzz and chiding will surround our second game of the season ("Durr, the Longhorns are about to get a taste of what they're getting themselves into with the SEC!SEC!"). This game will be much closer and more competitive than the opener, but Arkansas's vaunted SEC defense won't be able to stop Texas from scoring the points needed to win. We'll improve to 2-0 here, and suddenly the rest of the nation (and our recruiting) will take notice. Rice - Sept 18 This game will be over at the half and our younger guys will get much needed reps. We will even see our third and maybe fourth-string quarterback, taking some snaps. Texas Tech - Sept 25 Texas Tech is not what it has been in recent years, and their fan base and team is resigned to whatever fate awaits them post-Big XII. Basically, they're going to get fucked, know they're going to get fucked, and will get fucked during our game when we play and beat them too. @TCU - Oct 2 This will be our first example of a truly hostile conference game environment this year. Every conference away game that we play this season is going to be surreal in that it will produce a level of vitriol that we haven't seen since the height of the Southwest conference. But TCU is special. This particular team has basically owned us for the past decade. They have a better record against us over the past several years than OU. As of right now, TCU has a longer active winning streak at DKR than we do. This shit is unacceptable and needs immediate rectifying. When Texas first announced that it hired Sarkisian, I marked this game down as his "must win" for a successful first year. Time to put up or shut up. We will beat these cockroaches and it will feel cathartic as we improve to 5-0 on the season. TX/OU - Oct 9 For the first time in this game's history, there will exist a sublime camaraderie between the fan bases in attendance at they come together in the Cotton Bowl to watch their respective teams play each other. We will receive a more welcoming reception here than at any other conference venue this season. Maybe we'll win, maybe we won't. But we'll see them again in December. Oklahoma State - Oct 16 After our win in Stillwater last season, I'm convinced that we're back in Oklahoma State's head. They enjoyed a short run where they were beating us regularly for part of this decade, but that's over now. We'll put up another win here to leave them something to remember us by. @Baylor - Oct 30 Like Texas Tech, Baylor is resigned to whatever fate awaits them post-Big XII. But the game is in Waco, and they'll want to beat the big bad Longhorns one last time. McLane Stadium is going to be bumping and the Bears will expect to win. They'll probably even make it a game. But it won't be enough. Our win here will expel them back into irrelevancy as the Big XII dissolves around them. @Iowa State - Nov 6 This is the team that the pundits have not and will not quit talking about. And don't get me wrong--Iowa State WILL be good next season. But best (or even second best?) in the Big XII? A CFP contender? No. Still, they could very likely be 8-0 at this point next season. Their game against OU isn't until Nov 20, and beating OU will be their overarching singular focus this year. Beating Texas is a foregone conclusion and afterthought. But I need not remind you how Texas dominated much and most of the game against ISU last year (and the year before), and but for boneheaded coaching and game management, these games would have been wins. I'm really looking forward to going into Ames with an actually competent coaching staff this season and "shocking the nation" that has had ISU/OU penciled into the 2021 Big XII championship game since last December. Kansas - Nov 13 Kansas is a bad football team with a quagmire of current off the field issues. It'll be nice beating them comfortably for a change, particularly after our game against them last year was cancelled. @West Virginia - Nov 20 One last trip to a hostile Morgantown on our way out the conference's door. WVU made their Big XII debut against Texas by taking a memorable win from us at DKR in 2012 and catapulting to a top 5 ranking on the backs of Geno Smith and Tavon Austin. WVU then proceeded to lose their next 5 games and would ultimately lose the Pinstripe Bowl against Syracuse. Fuck. These. Guys. Our record in Morgantown has actually been pretty good, and there's no reason to change that now. Kansas State - Nov 26 This is our Thanksgiving-week game. Our Thanksgiving-week record has been pretty poor in recent years, and this will be a good time to fix that (as we'll soon resume playing our "little brother" that week starting as early as 2022, and we need to have things trending in the right direction). Big XII Championship Game - Dec 4 The rematch with OU. This is the one that counts, and it's one that we will win. OU could conceivably be undefeated going into this game and eyeing another CFP appearance. We will be able to take all of that away. It's fitting that the two teams acting as catalyst for the disintegration of the Big XII will be the two teams now battling for the Big XII title one last time, to keep for all time. Hook 'Em. Beat OU. And make the rest of the Big XII conference eat shit this final season.
  4. 1) Because, over objection, the original trial judge determined that the testimony given was in a separate judicial proceeding where he voluntarily gave such testimony. Admission by party opponent: Cosby was not forced to incriminate himself by the government in a criminal matter, and thus the Fifth Amendment wasn't violated. 2) It definitely did come up. At every stage. But the judge overruled these objections at every turn for reasons stated in (1) above. When a judge overrules your objection, the trial proceeds and your only remedy is an appeal--which Cosby did, and he won on appeal.
  5. Why is Luka so bad at free throws? I truly don’t understand. He hits insane 3s and jumpers nonstop but cannot make anything from the line.
  6. How can Luka hit 3s like that yet miss every free throw?
  7. Petitioning to change this thread title to “Malzahn shitcanned”
  8. Jeez that would’ve been amazing if it had been a pick six before the half, close!
  9. Wait, Did Herman really fuck Kendra Scott?
  10. It doesn’t matter bro. Season is already fucked. Losing, or winning, now makes no difference. Herman is a total shithead for the way he managed our games this year. All 3 of our losses can be traced back to clueless and idiotic play calling on a critical end of game situation. And these weren’t difficult to identify either when the situations arose— the highest success percentage solutions were obvious to anyone who watches a lot of football. But instead, Herman put us at inherent disadvantages and never in the best position to win the game.
  11. We'll cover easily. This is a Kansas team that UTEP would beat--this Kansas team is historically bad by Kansas standards. They have gotten blown out by every team they've played in conference. Their closest loss was by 21 points (WVU). Their second closest loss was by 30 points (ISU). Everyone else in conference scored close to 50 and won by nearly 40. OU won by 50. Par for the course in conference this year against Kansas is hanging 50 and winning by 30. Considering that we are 4-2 in conference, it's silly not to expect us to at least meet par. Basically what I'm saying is, they are terrible and we should win convincingly.
  12. In your 4way scenario, Texas plays ou. OkSt and ISU would be out as they’d be 1-2 against the other teams. Ou and Texas would be in because they’d be 2-1. in your 3way scenario, it assumes OkSt loses another game in addition to bedlam. This scenario is trickier as I think it would be determined by best record against next highest ranked conference team, which would likely be OkSt and Texas/ou would both have beaten them while ISU did not. So it’s probably Texas ou ccg again.
  13. 2011 was your shot man. It should’ve been OSU playing, not Bama.
  14. Yes we played like shit most of the game. Yes the refs were jobbing us most of the game. Yes we deserved to lose. But this is what I’m most pissed off about: We’re trailing 33-29 in the fourth quarter, and Keontay Ingram has just broken a couple big plays by sprinting a combined 60 yards to give us 1st and goal from TCU’s 1 yard line with 2:32 remaining on the clock. All of the things I mentioned in the first couple lines of this post no longer matter. The game is now firmly in our hands. All we have to do to not lose at this point is either fail to score a touchdown or fumble the ball. And we have 2:32 and 4 downs to do the first thing. So let’s do it in the safest and most time consuming manner possible, shall we? If I’m the Texas HC, at this point I have our guys run up the middle 3x, utilizing the full 40 second play clock each time. If we score, great, if not, we remove 40 seconds from TCU’s chances of a comeback. I specifically instruct our ball carrier to NOT make any risky end zone stretches, because being “stopped” on one or two of these 3 downs is actually sort of advantageous here. In the event we get stopped on all 3, then we can try something clever and less predictable on 4th down. But nothing is more important than ball security on downs 1-3. Instead, what we actually did was hurry up to the line and immediately rush the guy who had just sprinted 60 yards and was probably a little winded. For some reason he stretches the ball out haphazardly as if this was the final play of the game and there was no alternative. Ironically, it WAS the last play of the game for us because he fumbled at the goal line and we never saw the ball again. But even if he had scored and not fumbled, TCU would have still gotten the ball back with about 2:30 left and timeouts to burn because we chose to snap the ball with 20 seconds left on the play clock. Even a TCU field goal at the end would’ve sent it to overtime. There was no need at all to do things the way we did them in the final few minutes. Our coaches need to have more situational awareness and trust our team to manage the game better than that. We have inexplicably played games like this every year under Herman against less talented opponents. All this is to say that Herman is not our guy, and it really sucks that we’re going to continue being mediocre for the years to come.
  15. We’ve lost way too many games in way too embarrassing fashions over the past decade for me to really give a shit that we “almost lost” this one.
  16. We aren’t Bama or Clemson, Jesus Christ. We just saved our season and the big12ccg and CFP is still in front of us. Let them celebrate.
  17. There’s no fix, we are just sucking ass. It’s really disappointing to watch.
  18. I fucking love having a quarterback! We’re fucking good.
  19. I remember doing the same damn thing while watching the game live. Your post made me rewatch our last touchdown drive in that game just now, and I counted (conservatively) that we could have removed an additional 1:50 off the clock on our final drive by just allowing the play clock to run down further before each play. We snapped the ball on one play inside Tech's red zone with 30 seconds left on the play clock. Infuriating! When Tech got the ball back for the last time, they had 1:29 left. Gideon should've still caught that ball, but really the game should never have gotten to the point where it was in Gideon's hands.
