  1. One of the all time great films. Re-watched Paper Moon recently as well. Tremendous. RIP Peter Bogdanovich.
  2. Embiid with 42 and 14 on 66/75/80% splits at MIL tonight. Just filthy. 3 point game with 13 seconds left.
  3. Damn, Cam Thomas got on one in the second half tonight. Absolute dagger three to clinch the comeback win against the Knicks
  4. Did the same last year when I stayed in Monforte and then Tremezzo. Drove all over the place in between. A little odd when Google maps tells you to turn right and all of the sudden you are on a dirt road in the middle of a vineyard, but good times. The toll roads are the trickiest. Sometimes you need a ticket on and off, sometimes it’s just pay at the ending, and sometimes the machine eats your tickets and a man starts yelling at you in Italian through the intercom.
  5. Saw Waxahatchee last night. Earlier this week got tickets to one of Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot shows in April at United Palace. I think have Snail Mail, Mitski and Bon Iver tickets at the moment, and trying for Fleet Foxes next week.
  6. Does your buddy need a new friend? I fucking love Como and give cold hard cash for wedding gifts.
  7. It's incredible to watch Rockets fans continue to stan for Harden after he choked away multiple playoff series, ran off Chris Paul in favor of fucking Westbrook, and then quit on his team and forced his way out. I mean Kawhi won a finals MVP for the Spurs and he'd still be shot dead by 75% of the Spurs thread.
  8. When compared to Harden, who quit on two teams in the last 12 months, choked his entire career in the playoffs, and now is about 25 pounds overweight on the wrong side of 30? Simmons quit on Philly after he got the yips and both his coach and best player trashed him after a playoff exit. Never a great look to quit on a team, but it's somewhat understandable. Maybe he never amounts to anything and forces his way to LA, but between the two I'll roll the dice on the 25 year old.
  9. Phenomenal deal for Brooklyn. Get rid of a cancer, get an extra scorer and ball handler in Curry, get a guy like Simmons who can be a DPOY-level defender when right (even if he literally scores zero points), and they add a little depth to their thinnest position.
  10. Re Harden and Simmons, from the Nets perspective they need to trade Harden to Philly for every single player asset they can possibly get. The Nets need to be focused on one thing and one thing only: maximizing the Kevin Durant window. They have at worst the second best player in the NBA on their roster (in my view the best player in the NBA), and they are wasting precious time with the carnival of Harden and Kyrie. James Harden is done with the Nets. The guy is a fucking clown and a loser, and he always has been. I suppose it was worth a shot given his talent, but it's ending predictably and made even worse by the fact that they gave up Jarret Allen. If Morey is willing to give assets for Harden's bum ass because he fills up a stat sheet in January, the Nets should run with it. The best case scenario for the Nets in my view is Simmons and Curry for Harden. I'd be surprised if Morey parts with Curry, but who knows. A lineup of Kyrie, Curry, Durant, Simmons and pick your 5th probably gets out of the East and is much better positioned to compete for the next 2-3 years.* If the deadline passes without a trade being completed, you can write off the Nets this year as serious contenders. *A big assumption that the Kyrie home game issue is resolved in some fashion, either by him becoming an adult or New York loosening its standards.
  11. Many, many times. I used to live around the corner about 6 years ago. It’s a good spot and walkable from your hotel. Not sure of your age range, but the immediate surrounding area and into the LES will be pretty heavily slanted towards mid-20s (not Peasant, it has a healthy mix). Maybe that works for you or maybe you’ll want to go elsewhere after. If you are a wine person, La Compagnie is a great French wine bar relatively near by but outside the prime bustle of Nolita.
  12. Not too bad, though it's a crime that Alana Haim wasn't nominated. My top ten for this year. 1. Licorice Pizza 2. Drive My Car 3. The Worst Person in the World 4. C'mon C'mon 5. Lost Daughter 6. Pig 7. Annette 8. Azor 9. Bergman Island 10. Dune Haven't seen Souvenir Part II, Parallel Mothers, West Side Story or A Hero yet. The Power of Dog (which I liked and have at #14 on my list) is going to clean up.
  13. I’ve been many, many times for work lunches. I can’t speak to the atmosphere at night, but the sushi is excellent.
  14. It’s also like the only place left in my neighborhood that has a good open kitchen past 11:00 on a weeknight. Gone are the pre-pandemic days of eating at Buvette at 1:00am on a Tuesday. It’s basically Katana, Corner Bistro, or a slice place.
  15. Good list all around. King is great. You could try the original Dante for drinks after, although it'll be crowded. Little Branch is also close, and then just a bit further up you have bars like Pisellino, Katana Kitten, etc. But I've always liked the small bar in the back of the Bowery Hotel, in case going back to your hotel is easier. For Friday, it isn't on as many lists as some of the other places you mention, but you can usually get a cancellation at Altro Paradiso through resy. It's one of my favorite places, and a 9 minute walk to Comedy Cellar. Penelope's suggestion of Dame is excellent, but I really doubt you would have any luck walking in. I never have. I'm partial to the Whitney because I'm a member and I think the outdoor stairs give great views of the city, but if you haven't been to MOMA you should go there. The New Museum is relatively near your hotel and also good. All the classic upper east side museums are better if you do Bemelmans, just depends on what art you want to see. For Via Carota, if you go put your name in at 5:00pm (probably will already be a line outside), you should be able to get a table for 2 around 8:00. They take your phone number and send you a text when the table is ready, and hold for 15 minutes. I know that can be annoying when you are visiting the city. You can also walk across the street and drink at Pisellino. Pastis is another one of my regulars, but you will need to get a cancellation on resy. No point in walking in. Another idea is Momofuku Ko, which I think is tremendous and has the benefit of being close to your hotel. The wine director there is a buddy of the mine. She slings some great wine on the tasting menu. For sushi., you should just do omakase. Shuko and Nakazawa are both kick ass. The former has more of a New York vibe with the music and what not, the latter is like being in Tokyo. Both hit the wallet fucking hard. I'm going to Kosaka tonight to try it out. All that said, you can change nothing from your itinerary and have a great time. Good work.
  16. A few recent 2021 watches: Bergman Island - fantastic Nightmare Alley - just ok but worth a watch House of Gucci - I knew it would be a comedy, but I do not think it was in on the joke Benedetta - Paul Verhoeven loves to watch people fuck. This movie was fucked up.
  17. Maybe a baby for this thread, but it’s drinking beautifully after an hour decant
  18. Not my favorite director, but: 1. Memento 2. Dunkirk (maybe 1. better every watch) 3/4/5: Prestige/Dark Knight/Inception I also like Interstellar, though it’s not without its flaws. I’ve watched Tenet a few times. I respect the effort but it’s a miss for me.
  19. I am a proponent of taste being subjective and like what you like, but someone who says this and then follows it up with this should have their IP address banned from any serious film discussion. And I saw Dark Knight multiple times in theaters and countless times since. But I do give you credit for saying this
  20. Dumb question amnesty please. When people say “it’s to get the watch serviced”, what does that mean? Do you know it’s time by performance, or just every 5 years bring it in the shop?
  21. The Voyeurs. This movie is not good. Unless you like Sydney Sweeney. In which case, this movie deserves all the Oscars.
