  1. Mahomes is far and away the most famous and high-achieving alumnus in the history of my high school, athletic or otherwise. A championship parade down Main Street would be pretty lit; ergo, go Chefs.
  2. Guys I hate to break the tenor of Surly norms, but I think things are going really well, better than we had any right to expect or hope.
  3. how is it possible that I can be getting sucked into the idea that Mike McCarthy might be a good coach for us how
  4. I'm pretty sure the post is intended as an homage to the Luke Kureancohchly thread, fam.
  5. Carlsbad Caverns are awesome and I’d definitely like to go back for a 3rd time and do some of the more difficult caving routes before I get too old. /contributing
  6. I’m puzzled by Collective Surl’s general assumption that we can just go get guys who should be interviewing for higher positions with more responsibility based on their current level of success.
  7. Very limited, very talent-stripped Eagles team figured out a way to get whatever production they could by just watching film, noting defensive weaknesses, and running a janky Parcells TrashBall (tm) style offense, chipping at holes in zone coverage, particularly around Jaylon Smith. We have these alleged riches, smacked a considerably better team around last week but it's like pulling teeth to make anything happen. Where's the middle of the field? Why can PHI just pretty much throw bodies at the LOS and feel confident they can force a low percentage throw on the boundary or run with a slow drag route? What does Jason Garrett do for a living?
  8. Love your enemies; bless those that curse you, and return good for ill.
  9. That 3rd and 1 / punt down 11 sequence really makes you wonder about the inner life of Jason Garrett and how much he craves failure / desperately wants out of this job. It’s like he genuinely feels that conceding defeat is a football coach’s highest duty and finest hour.
  10. Williams. Fewer. Whatever it’s all good; I feel you dog.
  11. I thank this thread for inspiring a rewatch of the last 20 minutes of the 2001 Holiday Bowl. I was a sophomore; so many memories. Young Mack. Shovel pass city. Neurotypical timeout management and playcalling decisions. Egregious linebacker mugging. Roy Williams and Derrick Johnson balling out of control. Major heroballing at the highest possible level. It's beautiful.
  12. Pro football reference has them at an expected record of ~9-5. That's a pretty huge underperformance; you've got to go back to the Chan Gailey era to find something like that in previous team history. It does seem squarely on coaching; my gut estimate is that consistent and terrible patterns of clock management, use of tempo, settling for extremely low percentage field goals, etc. has cost the team about 3-4 ppg this season.
  13. Some great classics in the top 15; so much recency bias tho, especially from 16-25, that I'm inclined to say that the 'Football Bowl Association' polled a lot of millennial and younger staffers who are hardly deep-dive specialists into the history of this stuff and just started naming off games they could personally remember from the last 10 years that were pretty based.
  14. Pretty solid festival of terrible hero plays and bad shots. Good play out of the crunch timeout tho.
  15. (of course I say something and Kemba Walker immediately starts going nuts)
  16. BOS getting pwned by being bad at Js and basketball in general in early action.
  17. Sounds like a weak-willed, non-aligned take from a guy who probably pees an unbecoming shade of rusty gold, tbh
  18. The most important things we need are better position coaches and an offensive playcaller who isn't blinded by their own ego / implicit orders to caretake Tom's, in that order. The former is very achievable. The latter is to be hoped for but not counted on. We don't need sweeping changes in grand strategy or anything like that. Though I do welcome a four-man front out of sheer personal prejudices that have nothing to do with winning football games; 3-4 variants are aggy; we're Texas, we play four down.
  19. Something about this just cracked me right the fuck up for prob my biggest laugh on the forum this year. Thanks Huck!
  20. So much this. I can't understand for the life of me how high caliber safety play is so underrated around the league in general and particularly in Dallas. It's like Darren Woodson never existed.
  21. Doesn't seem that hard to understand. Beck's not particularly young; maybe he's concluded that these are his limitations and he's lucky to be working for a blueblood school with a boss he likes for more money than he probably deserves or could get elsewhere. Seems pretty sensible and humble to me if the offer's open.
  22. Beck might stay as QB coach even. He’s done a good job as a position coach. It’s rare for that to not be done by the OC of course but guess we’ll see. Morris would be a good realistic hire. Harrell and Brady seem like a bridge too far for the weakness of the current program.
  23. Guys, take it easy on each other. Pretend you were in the same room, fight down that impulse to aim a murder shot to the throat, and shake hands instead.
  24. Think he has Asperger’s syndrome. Tests well, bad at thinking. Feel pretty sorry for him. Hope he figures himself out.
