  1. Tired Horn

    Hubris

Very true. There are maybe a few things to be learned from Herman's tenure, but the only thing to be learned from Strong's tenure is, regrettably, that he was in over his head from Day 1.
  2. You've got a stronger stomach than I do. For safety's sake, please allow the appropriate interval of time between viewing "street-pure" videos of the Texas offense. On the plus side, though, it's only addictive for the hardest core masochists.
  3. Why not both? With an offense that putrid, it's just sane to be desperate at the start of the game. But yeah, it was way to early for that shit.
  4. It beats our heavily-sedated penguin approach to offense.
  5. To clarify, our offense plays like they all met each other fifteen minutes before the game, they hate each other, they were all given different playbooks, and someone drugged the QB.
  6. They;re gonna roll us if the offense shows up looking like it did at Kentucky.
  7. Arch threw it at the barn's foundation. The barn should have stretched out for it.
  8. I honestly don't think we should be entertaining any hope for the playoffs absent sustained improvement on offense. We did not evidence competence on offense against Kentucky. If we show up like that at Starkville, we could definitely lose to the lesser Mississippi.
  9. What a novel concept.
  10. I think that people are just wondering WTF? Arch last year looked like someone you'd expect to be at least a competent QB. This year he mostly looks like someone only vaguely familiar with the rudiments of the position. I don't expect him to magically become better because of last year, but seriously--WTF? Did Sarkesian put him through some kind of Clockwork Orange conditioning? Does he now panic at the sight of a football?
  11. Hey, don't sell Arch short. He could be the worst QB in multiple leagues.
  12. I don't think we have much choice but to ride or die with Arch, because I don't believe we have anyone else ready to play at a high level. This is Arch's season, for better or for worse. Mostly worse, so far.
  13. I think we need to simply accept that this year's version of the Horns isn't destined for greatness. Rip that band aid off, cuz OL and QB play are just subpar. We should be looking for two things: (1) that they can win enough games to keep the program's wheels from falling off; and (2) that we see incremental improvements on offense to give hope for next year. Like if Arch could demonstrate proficiency on at least one basic pass pattern, you know, the kind of thing we see other JAG QBs doing right and left on TV every Saturday. I can't fathom how any QB could look this awful after three years in the system. I've seen disappointments before, but we're in freakish aberration territory at this point.
  14. Point taken, but I, must, in all fairness, point out that every team you listed had much better QB play than us. Arch was just incomprehensibly bad today. And that is a problem most of our competitors don't have.
  15. What is wrong with Arch? As everyone has noted, he looked better than this when Quinn was hurt last year. I realize the offensive supporting cast is less than Quinn had, but Arch can't make even basic, easy throws. He looked sort of competent in the 2nd half last week, but tonight he's simply awful. WTF? How can he be this bad. He looks like me out there.
  16. Marginally beats a hotel in Indiana or Kentucky. Good luck with the surgery.
  17. That's a damn long drive. Be safe.
  18. So, I guess we don't completely suck, right?
  19. Nobody is 100 percent lock for the playoffs anymore. Teams have less critical depth these days, so all it takes is the wrong combination of injuries to derail anyone.
  20. So, if I'm reading this thread correctly, Texas should just give up on football and become a water polo school?
  21. Manning must have lost 18 on style points because he sucks so bad. Maybe we should just stipulate that we're all idiots.
  22. People need to calm down. We lost to a good team on the road by 7. and sloppily overwhelmed a patsy. There are things we need to improve on, but the season is still young.
  23. Unrelated, but it reminded me of a joke I liked. It came from a review of "No Country for Old Men"; "This movie has more depressed Texans than a Dallas Cowboy playoff crowd." And honestly, when is the last time a Cowboy player really stepped up in the playoffs in a way that mattered? The whole dynamic on this franchise is just fucked up. Good luck, Micah.
  24. I've always thought that somewhere along the line, when becoming the winningest coach in college football history became plausible, that Paterno lost all perspective in pursuit of that goal. Sandusky either directly threatened that pursuit (e.g., in the 2000-2005 timeframe when Paterno looked like a spent force as a coach, a major scandal could have convinced Penn St. it was time to move on) or threatened to render it meaningless (which he largely did). So, Paterno simply looked the other way until he couldn't, at which point it was too late for his reputation. Tragic flaws, hubris--Greek mythology is full of that. I could almost feel sorry for Joe, except that he was turning his back on kids being scarred for life. So, fuck him, and fuck his pointless record.
  25. Well, they are the best team that routinely squeezes its nuts in public. Always have been. Fucking weirdos.
