I’m assuming he got chewed up by the props, right?
  2. I did the exact same thing last weekend with impunity. Ditto, can’t wait to return.
  3. Dammit. In November I sprained my left knee with a torqued up golf swing into a solidly planted left foot. I’d say I’m 95% healed from that. Today I was in my garage throwing darts. To liven it up, I try different angles, then I backed up to the far wall and started throwing them overhand like a baseball. Then I kicked and delivered like I was a kid, back on the high school mound, and sprained my right knee. I can’t straighten it, I can’t walk, I had to get my wife to go to my warehouse and find my crutches. And I’ve got important meetings with clients and business travel the rest of the week. Fuck this getting old nonsense, I’m only 50. Spraining a knee throwing darts in my garage is pathetic. Once this shit heals I’m getting a Pilates reformer and starting a daily regimen.
  4. What was the reel they had on Amazon which was the Chinese knockoffs of the $400 Shimano Metanium or Anteres? Was about $60 IIRC and had great reviews? I’d go buy a half dozen of them now. Anyone? I can’t remember if it was this site or one of the ancestor sites where that discussion occurred.
  5. Looks like a fun day. We had a phenomenal time in NYC—a quick rundown for my memories. The new LGA doesn’t suck. I enjoyed staying on Central Park South; waking up early and taking a stroll around the park was lovely, watching lots of dogs playing, ice skaters, and the iconic skyline. And, of course, the well-heeled in their natural habitat. Essex House was, as expected, a nice JW Marriott. Originally it was my wife, daughter, and me, but my daughter’s friend who just took an investment banking job in NYC got invited somehow, and then when my wife’s BFF and her man found out we were going, they tagged along. Fun traveling couple. The first night was Jacob’s pickles, 84th, and Amsterdam. Solid southern food and gourmet pickles. Next, gawking in Times Square for the benefit of my wife’s friend, who was in NYC for the first time. My daughter is in digital media campaign enablement, so her comments about the various ads were informative. The following day was the 9/11 memorial (powerful), Trinity Church, the original St. Patrick’s Cathedral (the Godfather baptism scene location), and the Catacombs. A long lunch at Caffe Napoli in Little Italy, shopping, a daddy-daughter espresso date at Sofia’s, and drinks at Gelso & Grande on Mulberry. Since I don’t drink, I was over espresso’d for most of the trip. Then Moulin-Rouge, such a sexy spectacle. Saturday began with an hour in the park, brunch at Sarabeth’s on 59th and 6th, a subway ride to Brooklyn Bridge Park, then an Uber to the Hudson side and a boat ride by the Statue of Liberty and around the island. Over the years, I’ve made NYC trips focused on museums, food, and shopping, but the vibe on this trip was more celebratory (daughter’s 23rd birthday, enjoying friends) and enjoying the city’s for the first time with my 2nd wife). Dinner at Bond 45 was solid, ending with the best limoncello tart I’ve ever eaten. Hadestown was great. Sunday was a walk in Central Park, then a birthday girl champagne brunch at 230 5th Rooftop with a window table next to the Empire State Building, then a matinee of “Six,” which was a fun, short musical, then the Summit at One Vanderbilt. That place is a blast, like a funhouse of mirrors in the sky. We went at 4:30 and saw the sunset; NYC lights coming to life, the perfect cloud cover to make the sky look like a lava lamp. An ideal beginning to the evening. Dinner in an outside cabin at Quality Meats on 58th and 6th. Great steaks and sides, but in hindsight, it was so massive that I would have gone much lighter on brunch. By now, we had gone full speed for three days, and my wife was wearing down, so we called it a night. My daughter met up with her high school BFF who went to UT and now works for LVMH and they went to her place in Harlem, and she stayed until 3 am. Woke up, strolled the park, met up with UpperWestside for an enjoyable visit, then rallied the troops to the hotel bar for a Monday afternoon white girl wasted Uber to LGA. Our next NYC trip will be with my son and new DIL.
  6. Me too. We could probably come up with a whole glossary. Edit: whoever brought up concur, thanks. I better do my expense report before the nasty grams from Amex arrive.
  7. Me too. A few weeks ago I was at a charity gala and found myself sitting next to my US congress critter, Randy Weber. During introductions my wife and I just glared at him, and didn’t shake hands. He focused on the other people, like my FIL, the regional head of DPS, and a genuinely good guy self-made philanthropist, and out of politeness to them I didn’t loudly proclaim what an unmitigated immoral unprincipled son of a bitch I think he is. I regret my inaction. But I wish Dade would run for statewide office, he is a real Texan, his great grandfather was at Spindletop, his wife has done a lot to help to help children through ad litum CPS advocacy, and his uncle is almost like a father to me, he is one of the most selfless, helpful people I’ve ever met.
  8. Mac, pm sent. I’m willing to put you in touch with my best friend from college who might have some job leads.
  9. Stay sober for a few years, and I’ll bet your perspective will change dramatically.
  10. I wonder if Brooks gets tired of horny kids saying “dude, where’s Jena?” That was epic. I want to be Scottie Scheffler.
  11. It depends on if one buys into the disease concept, and the 12 steps as framed by the big book. Put another way, normal people don’t seem to have a spiritual sickness that requires intense personal inventory, but I do.
  12. That poor girl. All she wanted to do was “Live. Laugh. Love.” Talk about salt in the wounds. . .
  13. Out liquor was but a symptom. So we had to get down to the underlying causes and conditions. Just not drinking is hell on Earth.
  14. Same thing with the 7:45 am Citi group at 619 Lexington in Manhattan. Just the thing before a day in the city and an afternoon crawl across Little Italy. I’m espresso’d to death.
  15. Ok dumb question, why do all the restaurants have tables in the street? Is it a restaurant week thing? Just ate at Jacobs Pickles on Lexington and they are everywhere.
  16. Many moons ago my dad won a CCA boat raffle, IIRC it was a $40K gift certificate to Ranger boats. I think after it netted out he “sold” it to a guy for a slight discount.
  17. Mahones: I’d like to thank God, and hydrocodone.
  18. Show of hands, who doesn’t have some of her songs on their sex playlist? Anyone? Bass Pro Shops was the best commercial so far. “The feel of 8 lb test slipping through your fingers” My wife is still texting her friends about Rihanna smelling her pussy fingers.
