  1. Good point about Clark Hunt. I didn't think of the SMU connection. He's on the Ticket more than Jerry so I'm well aware of who he is.
  2. The Ticket in Dallas is saying the 160K is guaranteed. That seems odd unless there have been changes with UDFAs.
  3. I used to believe that, but now I'm of two minds here. 1) Most of the discussion for the removal of the 1yr of college rule happened prior to the Gleague for 1 yr even being a potential concept. There's really no reason for the NBA to change their rule . They went to the one year rule for a specific reason that now has an amenable solution in place. Having the Gleague route available now helps with the issues that came with having to pay 18 year olds who won't contribute and who've never been on their own. 2) However, on the other hand, the grassroots scene has changed significantly over the last 20 years and kids are usually less of the headache that they were back in the early 00s. Mark Cuban was on record discussing the differences between generation Z and the millennials before them. And all the traits of being risk averse and less prone to drug use of their non-basketball playing Gen Z contemporizes apply to the Gen Z bbball players as well. Cuban was on Dallas radio discussing how these kids don't smoke weed and are pretty much homebodies who are on social media all day and are much more aware of the importance of taking care of their bodies at a young age than players before them. So maybe the rule isn't necessary, but I don't see changing the rule to be as much of priority as it was in NBA front offices' minds just 5 years ago
  4. In the coming years as the Gleague opportunities have entered the equation, I'm curious about which group will have the early career endorsement opportunities flowing towards them. The D1 stars shining on TV every night or the Gleague Elite players spending a year in anonymity? My guess is that on average the D1 guys will have more opportunities early in their careers, but I'm curious about the true game changers like Lebron and Zion who come out over the next decade. Will playing a year in anonymity stunt their commercial opportunities beyond what they otherwise would've been or is it inconsequential?
  5. I'd also have to attribute some of our issues drafting for defense to our instability on that side ball since Parcells left. We've remained fairly stable on the offensive side of the ball for the past 15 years while we've been the epitome of volatility on the defensive side of the ball. Stability makes it easier for scouts and the entire front office to pinpoint what type of players have success in a system. Changing defensive schemes every 2 or 3 years probably limits the ability for scouts to evaluate talent at consistently proficient level.
  6. Precisely. This fanbase for some reason values McClay really high. I'm guessing it stems from the offensive side of the ball. Even though that hasn't exactly been a great strategy i.e. Going all in to build some mammoth OL. Using so much draft capital. It values him high because before he came along we'd do things like draft for special teams and take Quincy Carter in the 2nd round. In other words, McClay's esteem is all relative to the absolute shit show that took place when Jerry was truly running things.
  7. The Cowboys haven't drafted a safety before the 4th round in 8 drafts yet for some reason we as fans continue to be surprised when they don't draft highly rated safeties with their top 100 picks. It's clear as day they don't value safeties. And honestly the league doesn't seem to value them either. Top rated safeties go later than predicted every year in the last few drafts.
  8. People forget this or probably didn't pay as much attention to it last year but when the 2 of them were on the court Ramey's utilization #s were slightly higher than Coleman's last year. Coleman ended a lot of possessions last year aligned at the 3pt baseline with Ramey at the top functionally making Ramey our PG.
  9. Music to my ears. Get Larsson, hope for SIms, and let's saddle up for next year.
  10. I said it another thread, but I'd rather this guy than Wheeler. For such a short guy I'm surprised that Wheeler isn't more of a quick twitch or super speedy player. I'd rather get a guy like Larsson who looks to have a multifaceted and mature skillset in a 6'5" body. He's Jace Febres with actual game or an analogue to AJ1. Plus he's the type of guy I'd like to see starting alongside Arterio Morris and Keyonte George the year after next.

  12. I disagree that Ramey is mainly a spot up shooter. Maybe it's the fact that he's not really athletic and has a probing game, but his style of play reminds me a lot of J'Covan. He had a lot of good moments this year most memorably the play to setup AJ1's buzzer beater against at WVU.
  13. Ramey is a poor man's J'Covan. He's a better 3 point shooter than Brown, but his lack of a mid range game and the savvy or change of pace to consistently get by defenders while driving holds him back.
  14. Ramey's issues with TOs were more of a function of the free ranging offense and a lack of athletic ability (he got himself into bad situations with no way out) than the result of a loose handle like Coleman (who literally had his worst TO game of his career against ACU) or AJ1. IMO, Ramey can actually be a better and more consistent distributor of the ball in a more defined system. Ramey had better vision than Coleman and was much more likely to drop the ball off to a backdoor cut or pitch out a catchable ball to a 3 point shooter than Coleman. Coleman is much quicker and more athletic than Ramey so he frequently put more pressure on defenders in pick and roll situations which resulted in drop offs to Sims, but I think he left a lot to be desired in his ability to see the floor as a PG. According to basketball reference Ramey's turn over % on a normalized scale was better than Coleman's.
  15. I think the only reason that it seems weird with Ramey is due to him not being on campus currently and finishing the semester from home/DFW. His dad has liked multiple Beard tweets and tweets referencing how great Beard will be for his son. Ramey seems to be a no frills guy. In this day and age when every recruit makes a show of deciding their college choice I remember Ramey barely did anything. He just said he's coming, signed his LOI with minimal fanfare, and then showed up during the summer. His lack of an announcement or tweet saying he's staying is pretty much par for the course for him. He easily has to most low profile social media presence of anyone on the team not named Jericho Sims.
  16. Fuck that. Way too much guard talent in the state of Texas in the 2022 class to have lesser talented players taking up roster space and dissuading them from coming here.
  17. I believe his dad is Hawaiian while his mom is half Inuit.
  18. So is this HBO's Sunday night show now? Or is it released on Mondays?
  19. I wonder whether Thompson may practice at a level distinctly below his game performances and vice versa for Card. Even in the Colorado Bowl game I felt that Card was a bit skittish in the pocket and had happy feet, and he's showing some of the same traits so far today. For the past 2 years the 9.95ers have all consistently stated that Card's practice performances are anywhere from a hair better to demonstrably better than Thompson's, but every time we see them play I tend to lean the other way. Maybe Thompson is just a gamer.
  20. Imagine uttering this nonsense and actually believing this makes for a robust and compelling argument. I don't know if it's my old age or what, but I remember a time when Republicans actually made somewhat persuasive arguments for their stances. What tha fuck is this!?!?!
  21. Clarke was a high school teammate of Kai Jones and they seem to have been fairly close.
