I've got a great one for this tangent...
Opening Day of the Longhorn season, 1998: Sep 6 vs New Mexico State. Early game, very hot, and followed up w/ a visit to 6th Street. I was so drunk, I knew it and took myself home around like 11-1130...at that time in my life I *never* went home before the bars closed. Lived in an efficiency on Riverside w/ no microwave. Wanted a bit of ice cream w/ Hershey's so I put some water in a pan, put the Hershey's in the water and put it on the stove to warm up, then plopped down in the recliner and passed out. Woke up to my girlfriend and neighbor trying to wake me up in an apartment so thick w/ smoke you could barely see your hand in front of your face. The water had boiled out of the pan and then the pan heated up and melted the plastic Hershey's container, which dripped down onto the electric element and caught fire. Somehow this tripped all breakers, so no light to help see though the smoke. I am obviously still hammered and the girlfriend isn't having whatever idiocy I am stuck on, so she leaves my drunk ass and goes to her apt. Had to sleep there w/ no AC and in the WORST smelling apt ever. Got up the next day, went to Robert Earl Keen's festival in Luckenbach and left the real cleanup for later - priorities and whatnot. Took like 6 weeks for that smell to dissipate.
