  1. You're probably right. I've just never seen a pro sports market quite like this.
  2. I've hit about 9 Thunder home games this season and the attendance has been horrendous. I'm not exaggerating when I say there are nights where we only have 6 or 7,000 in the seats. You can pay $10 for a ticket on stubhub and sit pretty much anywhere. I've noticed the three things that have impacted the attendance: rebuild, organization's support of BLM, and the earlier requirement to have vaccines and masks at games. The vast number of politically conservative people in this community that openly want this organization to fail and/or relocate and leave Oklahoma City is pretty astounding. I hear it quite a bit from the 'Go Woke/Go Broke' crowd. They actually want the NBA to leave town. Do you think behind closed doors that the NBA is regretting putting a team in Oklahoma City? I don't think you'd be seeing these politically related issues in Seattle.
  3. Fun game in person. It occurred to me that the Stars haven't been handing out game programs this year. When did they kill this tradition?
  4. You're touching on a very interesting topic that hits close to home unfortunately. I lived in Asia for 18 years and repatriated about 7 years ago in my mid-forties. From a professional standpoint, moving back to the States (when I did) was one of the biggest mistakes I've ever made. I worked for a software company and law firm during that time abroad and never found anything close to that after returning to the States. I'm actually in the process of exploring job opportunities overseas as we speak. Would have moved earlier had it not been for Covid. One thing I highly recommend, make sure you have a solid plan and good leads before assuming you'll hit the ground running upon your return. I know this is a no-brainer but it's really true after a certain age. I think the longer you're overseas, the more you'll miss the ex-pat life after you return. The American Midwest gets pretty boring fast especially if you're starting over and meeting new people. A very different pace of life here.
  5. Looks like I spoke too soon. It was announced today they are postponing the 45th reunion due to current events around the world. They moved the dog one block away from Central Park just around the corner. By the way, the business in the background was the location of Gilda's Cut 'n Curl where Francine Dunlop worked as a hairdresser. If you visit Johnstown, there's Slap Shot history all over the place.
  6. By the way, the Slap Shot 45th Anniversary Reunion with be the weekend of March 18-19 in Johnstown, PA. Quite a few of the actors - as well as the Hansons - will be there. Steve Carlson is still up in the air as he's still recovering from cancer treatment.
  7. I visited Johnstown in November and took quite a few 'then and now' photos. Holy ground.
  8. Guess we'll just have to take their word for it on the replay.
  9. Is it really? Went to a game out in LA a few years ago that happened to be Pride Night. Didn't even know they had such a thing in the NHL. Ended up being a really fun night. Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet from Modern Family were there to drop the puck. Will Ferrell kissed a guy on kiss cam.
  10. What's the overall consensus at this point from Stars fans on Jamie Benn? I'm not a Stars fan so can't say I follow him as closely. His numbers have been way down the last few years. Is a 20-goal season ever in his future? Cripes, he has 11 assists in mid-February. Trade deadline is March 21st. Is this guy untradable? Not gonna happen but would Dallas ever move him? Pavelski was one of the best signings you guys have had in ages. Love that guy.
  11. I'm still trying to get used to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Somehow team owners are offered decent alternatives and choose the cheesiest one.
  12. Dang.......40 Days - $1,382,800. Serious earnings. When I lived in Japan, my roommate was/is a writer and one of the smartest guys I've ever known. He tried out for Jeopardy and it made it to the Tournament of Champions before losing to Ken Jennings. I think he won somewhere around $125,000. He told me he got slammed three times on the taxes. He had to pay US Fed taxes, California taxes and Japanese income taxes. Ouch.
  13. I started getting sick the evening of January 1st (what a way to start the year). By the next afternoon, I had an unbelievable headache and a fever. Honestly assumed it was due to weather change. Those symptoms only lasted a few days but severe cough and chest congestion kicked in. Tested positive the following Weds. Have been home and pretty much in bed since January 2nd. Have to admit, Covid has kicked my ass but getting better. Terrible cough and fatigue. Walking up stairs is pretty tiring. If I'm lying down, I'm okay. But going to the bathroom or taking a shower is pretty exhausting. Personally, I don't think it's as bad as dengue fever but a pretty solid second. Dengue fever lasted right at two weeks but much more consistent fever. On a sidenote, I am triple vaxxed and had the booster December 2nd. Remarkably, my wife slept next to me up until January 2nd and never got it. Also, we spent the end of 2021 with my folks - dinner twice and watched a movie together - and they didn't get it either. Brother came over to work on my computer on the 31st. He's negative. Such a bizarre virus. My vaccine wasn't 100% effective but everyone around me was.
  14. You can't lose to Montreal. Jeez...they're awful. Went to a game up in Montreal a couple of months ago. They got slammed 6-0 at home to Pittsburgh. Great looking women at the game though. Definitely the classiest fan base you'll ever see at a hockey game. Imagine the complete polar opposite crowd you'd see in Wichita.
  15. Has there been any talk there in Dallas about the rescheduled dates in February? Surprised there hasn't been an announcement. Assuming the postponed Nashville and Winnipeg games will be that second week of Feb.
  16. How the hell did Artie Lange outlive BOTH Norm MacDonald AND Bob Saget??
  17. "Betty White, Betty White" "What did every black man in America say when they heard Candace Owens got married?"
  18. One of my top two favorites of all time. Great soundtrack as well. When they released the Director's Cut a couple of years ago, caught it three times in the theater. Incredible on the big screen. One thing I really like about it is that it actually feels like and resembles Vietnam and Cambodia. Have spent several years in both and the movie really catches that vibe (although it was shot in the Philippines and Dominican).
  19. Caught a game last week at the old Hartford Civic Center. Lots of Whalers jerseys in the crowd and the old banners still hanging from the rafters. Got me thinking, with the NHL finding so much success with these outdoor games, why don't they have a regular season game in Hartford and Quebec? Imagine having Carolina put on the green and play Boston in Hartford or the Aves sporting the Nordique blue at the old Le Colisee against the Habs. Imagine what those tickets would sell for.
  20. Speaking of the finale, anyone ever been to Holston's? Grabbed a burger there the other day and noticed the onion rings were twice the price of the fries. Waiter said every tourist that comes in orders the rings. I guess that was Tony's last order. Might as well cash in on that.
  21. I was standing in line at the Comedy Cellar in New York a few weeks ago (October 25th to be exact) and noticed a guy standing in front of me chatting with the door staff. He looked familiar but couldn't place him. He went in way before the rest of the crowd. Watched SNL a few weeks later and suddenly realized it was this Athari guy. I know, csb. BTW, the Comedy Cellar is totally worth a visit if you're ever in NYC. Dave Attell went on that night until 2am.....on a Monday night. Good times.
  22. I can't believe Auntie B is the same person that was the hot Native chick in the Seinfeld episode 'The Cigar Store Indian'
  23. So on Wednesday, I stopped in River Market Antiques in Kansas City around 3 in the afternoon. Very quiet scene on that street. As I walked up to the store, I noticed a guy sitting alone on the steps tapping away on his cell phone. Long hair, shorts, t-shirt, wearing a mask. Just a normal guy on the street. I couldn't believe, though, how much the guy looked like Dave Grohl. I actually did a legit double take. Later in the store, this fella walked by me and I said 'Dude, it's amazing how much you look like Dave Grohl'. He says 'No shit?' and pulls his mask to the side. It was actually him. What are the odds of bumping into a guy like that at an antique store in Kansas City? I stole a pic from the company website. Not me.....some dude that works there.
  24. What impact did this place have on local property taxes?
