  1. Right. That's what I'm saying. Alpine have literally no one to drive for them next year now, so Danny Ric can use that as leverage to get multiple years out of them if he hops over starting next year.
  2. Yeah, his best shot at a seat that's not a backmarker in 2024 is to use this situation to leverage Alpine into a multi-year deal. Otherwise, his only options for 2024 might be Haas or Williams, so it would make sense for him to settle with McLaren if he can switch to Alpine.
  3. Right. They'll absolutely be paying Danny something, but whatever Alpine pay Danny Ric can go towards paying Piastri so McLaren will still be paying about the same amount. I could also see Piastri taking a smaller salary next year just to get in the seat and then getting paid substantially more after 2023.
  4. I think a Piastri-Ricciardo switch makes the most sense for everyone involved, but I doubt McLaren will be willing to pay his full buyout, so Alpine would need to pay Danny Ric a market value contract to offset some of the McL buyout, and I'm not sure Alpine would be willing to make that work since I'm sure they're mad at McLaren for how all this has gone down.
  5. Nothing better than a bunch of old white dudes discussing their experiences with cities and the weather as a way to measure what’s most attractive to HS recruits.
  6. In both of your posts you’ve confused complexity on a white board with complexity of execution for the player. Orlando’s scheme wasn’t that complex for each individual player. He called a ton of run blitzes where the front 6 or 7 slanted and each had a gap. That’s easy for the player to know their assignment, even if it’s technically a complex looking blitz play. Whereas having DL 2 gap makes it more complex for the front 7. The DL has to wait and read the play and then the LB has to read off the DL. This leads to guys playing slow when they’re not used to it yet, which we saw a lot of last year. And to your point, the 2 gapping can keep guys clean if executed well, but it wasn’t, which then makes it harder on the LBs. I’m not sure what football you watched, but Overshown absolutely played better in Ash’s scheme and a lot of it was because it was more simple so Overshown could think/make reads less and play fast.
  7. Again, it’s obvious gap integrity matters, but the added complexity makes it much harder to execute. A huge part of it was obviously personnel, especially at edge, but the scheme caused problems too. Guys like Sweat struggled mightily with gap integrity in 2-gapping. That adds a level of complexity, which leads to guys thinking, playing slow and making the wrong reads. Plus our personnel on DL were more suited for attacking. On top of that, it’s much harder for a LB to have gap integrity in a 2 gap because they have to make reads on the fly. Overshown looked way better under Ash than he did last year, and that’s because Ash’s defense is easier and more straightforward for LBs, especially in the run game. The added complexity for DL and LBs in that scheme absolutely contributed for the struggles of our defense.
  8. The consistent rumor has been that he just doesn’t care enough about football to put in the work necessary to be great.
  9. This isn’t really correct. While gap integrity always matters, it gets much more simplified, and therefore much easier to execute, when you run a 4 man front and have most of your DL 1-gap, like Ash did the year prior. PK switching the DL to mostly 2-gapping and then having LBs make reads off of that was absolutely a contributing factor to our poor Run D. It’s much simpler to execute what Ash did in year one. I doubt PK will quit 2-gapping so hopefully our guys have improved at executing it in year 2.
  10. Not really. Gullette was 225 after his junior year. That guy was 215 coming out of high school. 10 pounds and a year younger is a big difference. Gullette has the frame to get to 245-250 which is plenty for a weak side edge. PK usually has the weak side edge in the 240-250 range and the strong side on the 255-265 range, which is pretty normal for most 4 man fronts.
  11. Just a friendly PSA, last offseason this guy used about 5,000 words to conclude BJ Foster was a great fit as a deep safety when PK calls Cover 1.
  12. I’m still not sure exactly how good Piastri is, but it will be exciting to see a rookie debut in a top 4 car (depending on how teams improve over the offseason). I’m not sure the last time a rookie debuted in a top 4 car. I guess you could say Norris but that was only with the Tracing Point penalties and max switched to RB part way through the year. Other than that, I can’t really think of anyone since Hamilton who actually debuted in a top 4 car on pace. Ocon should be a really good measuring stick, since he’s pretty dead on average on the F1 grid and very consistent. It took both Leclerc and Norris about half of their rookie season to really get up to speed, so I expect Ocon will beat him handily in the first half, but I could see Piastri looking on par or even slightly better than Ocon by the end of the year.
  13. Yeah, this is hilarious that they’re settling so hard right after the big pool party. Nelson is a pipe dream, Novosad just turned them down, a bunch of their priority targets didn’t show up. It’s certainly looking like the rumors of them going all in on Hill with not much left for the rest of the class were true.
  14. Where’s @Bamboozled73 when you need him? Is aggy pushing all their backup options to commit all part of Jimbo’s brilliant pool party plan too? First it’s Samu, next will be the DL they processed out of the class earlier this year. Then they’ll follow that up with that shitty OL. We’re about to see a lot of settling, which is something very familiar to aggies.
  15. Saw a report that Alonso has up to 3 years, each at his option. That’s a bold move by AM for a guy getting up there who tends to wear out his welcome. Also seems like there’s a rumor Piastri has an out in his Alpine contract and could be a FA, and that Danny ric would be interested in going to Alpine, in which case Piastri could go to McLaren. No idea if that’s legit, but it would be fascinating.
  16. Alpha Tauri is a fashion company owned by Red Bull. It’s just a different name to throw on the Red Bull B team, but RB ultimately funds their budget.
  17. Maybe. It’s hard to know with how little info we get since Covid, but I think the fact that he has Bama, UT, A&M, and UGA all seriously recruiting him is evidence enough that he’s a really good prospect. Those same schools aren’t going after MHP. We’re competing with Cal, TCU, and UH for him.
  18. I find the Alonso to AM move kind of depressing. It’s just sad watching legends of the sport fiddle around at the back and not even make it out of Q3. Having Alonso in the Alpine is a lot more fun. But I am excited to see what Piastri can do in a top 4 car. Very few rookies get that kind of chance nowadays. Putting yourself in the same category as Russell and Leclerc in the junior formulas is very good company, even if people seem to think he’s not quite that level of talent.
  19. Hopefully not. I still have a hard time believing the staff actually has one spot left at WR that’s for either Hale or MHP. Hale seems like he’s a completely different level of prospect IMO. It’s hard to say without testing numbers and Hale may have some question marks off the field, but Hale just flat out seems clearly better on the field and the caliber of schools recruiting him back that up.
  20. It’s basically just an opportunity for coaches to shoot themselves in the foot by having to spell the players’ names. Still can’t believe Charlie whiffed on Roland Jones. He was so organized and all over that recruitment.
  21. Yeah, I’m definitely with you on all that. I guess we just arrive at slightly different solutions. On a side note, I’ve never reallly watched NASCAR but I saw they were doing the combo event with IndyCar this weekend, so I watched the highlights of the brickyard race, and it was just constant safety car restarts leading to more crashes in the first 3 turns. It’s not even racing, literally just bumper cars then pack them all back together for an “exciting” restart just so they can crash again. I really don’t understand how people like NASCAR.
  22. While I totally agree with that, there would be almost no passing without DRS. I think the answer is to reduce DRS zones, but these cars are too big and heavy to allow for much passing without any DRS. The dirty air has gotten much better, but we won’t be able to get rid of DRS until/if the cars get smaller and lighter. These cars are too wide and not nimble enough to allow for hardly any overtaking other than on the straights. Hungary is a good example of why we should reduce DRS, only allowing DRS on the main straight would’ve allowed for more/better fighting down to turn 4. Too often the overtake was done at turn 1 and then completely over because the overtaking car got DRS. If they don’t get DRS after turn 1 there would’ve been a lot more exciting racing into turn 4 and it would make the overtaking driver have to be more skillful because they’d need to accommodate for a good exit out of turn 1.
  23. Y’all are out of your minds. Leclerc was over half a second faster on his second medium stint than Russell and it still took him about 7 laps to clear Russell on a tight move. He never would’ve gotten close to passing without DRS and then we’d be right back to Hungary being Monaco without walls, which is the whole thing we’re trying to move away from. Without DRS, a car would have to be at least a second per lap faster to pass at Hungary, which would just make the whole race a procession. Cars can follow better, but they’re still massive so it limits the overtaking opportunities mainly to straights and that will still require DRS. I think the best course of action would reducing the amount or length of DRS zones where it becomes too easy to pass, but getting rid of them entirely would be a horrible move .
