  1. I didn't even see this reply until I saw Scooter had quoted it. I asked the guy and his wife was the one taking the pictures, she said "oh, you just bought film that did that". Then they argued about whether they had used the Pentax or Olympus on that trip. Apparently she's the camera person in the family but I got the distinct impression that she had no idea. Maybe something they bought/rented locally and just turned it in for processing? No idea. They're both a bit of the airhead sort, I can't imagine them forgetting if they actually had a pano camera.
  2. Eh, you're not likely to see it from me anytime soon, lol. My ability to edit is pretty much nil. As far as capturing the basic image I used a gorillapod and a cable release with the mirror up on the camera. Set the 'pod on the sidewalk and took a few guesstimate shots to get the exposure in the ballpark. I've got photoshop Elements which I guess I could use to create a few layers to tone down the bright lights and bring up the shadows but I've been lazy as hell wrt that aspect of creating images.
  3. I don't know that he went away from it as some philosophy change, I think it was most likely a matter of the type of players he's had more recently. Either way it shows some maturation as a coach.
  4. Baylor in the Final Four; Duke, Carolina, Kansas and Kentucky nowhere in sight. Timing does help. I think the Bears have had 3 trips to the Elite Eight in the last 10 years and hope that experience by the coaches will have some impact vs a good Houston team.
  5. First real attempt at nighttime photography. Probably would look better with a decent edit but I'm not there yet in that department. Also can't seem to figure out why buildings look tilted in different directions or maybe that's just my eye. I was using a fairly "normal" focal length, around 85mm I think.
  6. Yeah, if you're talking work boats I can see that. Survey boats are, I would think, a little more motivated. Transport probably don't have much in the way of deck crew, just enough to keep it maintained and get her in and out of port. Not even sure on the maintenance there, probably a lot of that goes to contractors when in for long port stays. I was Military Sealift Command and we WORKED, lol.
  7. That was not my experience 35 years ago but it you're talking union crewed vessels then that's a different animal. They can and do work 6 months out of a year and even the lowest paid room steward can bank $60K with room and board provided (obviously).
  8. Gem and mineral show has been relocated to old Beall's store at Richland Mall. City had stupid covid regs in place for convention center. Same dates, May 1 & 2 if anyone is interested.
  9. Full moon last night and using the app that Anton recommended the gotdang thing appeared exactly where and when it was supposed to. Crazy. Pardon the subject matter my UT friends, there ain't much here in the way of landmarks that I could capture in a frame with limited time and research.
  10. Yeah, the NIT was THE tournament back in the day. Then they sold it and it got relegated to second tier status. Teams that win it now are frequently good enough to have made deep runs in the NCAA tourney but just didn't get the chance for whatever reason. There's no shame in being in it and I've seen teams come off of winning that tourney go on deep runs in the big dance the next year.
  11. Flagler was clutch down the stretch. He came thru too vs ISU when the team came back from the COVID break and they looked like they'd all been sick.
  12. That last 4 minutes was best Baylor. Keep it up.
  13. Perfect. I'm a lazy bastard but HAD thought about it a little bit and this is pretty much what I had envisioned - that is moving a slider. I had tried tapping on the azimuth at the bottom of the sun/moon widget hoping that maybe the function was hidden in there. I haven't really explored the Planner yet but that's where I figured such a function might be after I couldn't find it on the sun/moon widget. If I'd had the idea sooner I suspect that this morning, 'bout an hour from right now by my calculations, would have been a good time to get the shot I'm thinking of. At least I think so, it's supposed to be pretty clear out right now. ETA. Nope, almost a bit foggy out. Oh well, moon'll come back around, it always does.
  14. @Anton Chigurh is there a way to make Photopills give the time of day (night) when the moon is going to be at a particular azimuth? I haven't explored the app much. Tried to watch a couple of vids but Hans' accent is hard on my old ears. Basically I have an idea of where I'd like to take a photo from and relative to that location where I'd like the moon to be in the photo. I'm just trying to figure out WHEN I need to be there for that. Thanks in advance!
  15. Seems like @Vic Mackey might be a good consultant on this sort of thing.
  16. Which forum would such a topic be found in? Asking for a friend with soft, supple nipples in need of stiffening.
  17. Lightering barges would be the first step I would think.
  18. Funny how one book leads to another of the same era or genre etc... I started with McMurtry last summer and that led to Kesey and then to Kerouac. In there I was introduced to Neal Cassady as the bus driver in Kool-Aid Acid Tests. Then came the realization that he was the character Dean Moriarty in On The Road. Got intrigued by his story and found his wife's bio. Dude was unique and he unintentionally became the face of the Beat generation even if many couldn't put a name to the face. Well, mostly speech patterns and mannerisms but yeah, he was the source material for a lot of shit.
  19. I see a resemblance to the distinguished councilwoman from District 6.
  20. I was downtown fucking around a week or two ago near the statue of hometown hero Doris Miller and it was early morning. I'd taken a few shots of it before and posted my efforts here. @DougO commented then on how the eyes had a Cujo look to them. Come to find out when the sun is from the east they look right. My monitor isn't calibrated so when I do print I have to tinker with the image, usually the brightness. This pic doesn't look nearly as good as the print that I made from it. Really happy with how it turned out.
