  1. Some of the internal politics at play within the Big Ten Conference.
  2. It has been postulated that this scheduled mediation may be required in the conference bylaws, and therefore possibly purely proceedural.
  3. He is originally from Florida, I believe. This guy has shown little interest in Texas until recently. He went to the Cotton Bowl to watch the game on Saturday, so I think this shows there is now some mutual interest. This probably means that he might want to set up an official as well. This seems like positive progress, but not a guaranteed flip.
  4. 1) Additions from the ACC would be primarily for football, not basketball. That means basketball focused additions have no large effect on potential additions from the ACC. Perhaps some ACC schools would even consider large basketball brands as a positive. 2) This is in alignment with BY's notion that he can potentially separate basketball and football media rights contracts. That means you can add several non-football additions to increase the value of your basketball media rights. 3) Travel would definitely be a negative if you cannot accomplish (2). 4) Gonzaga is probably a large enough brand that they can now hire a good coach. Especially if the Big 12 can increase the value of their basketball media rights and already respected basketball brand. I am not saying all of this will come to pass, but I am just saying this is the likely rationale for the addition.
  5. Then Jason Scheer wades out into the fray.
  6. Apparently it was the Utah president who came up with the 50 MM per school/yr valuation for the remaining Pac 12 schools, and requested that Kliavkoff counteroffer ESPN at that amount.
  7. I believe the ratings report for last week's games showed that SMU's game drew something like 12K viewers as well.
  8. It probably doesn't mean much, but the Clemson quarterly BOR meeting is October 5th & 6th.
  9. I posted the local article about Clemson up thread. The only other thing I have heard was about two weeks ago when Larry Williams of Tigers Illustrated said that he expected an announcement about Clemson leaving the ACC to happen "in October". With "In October" being pretty vague and the timeline being from a message board moderator, I decided not to post about it. However, it is something else that I have heard.
  10. Your fealty is undoubtedly unmatched, as is your Surly acumen. May your neg be a permanent and unarguable testament to my inferiority in both, as well as my ignorance of early 2000's Big 12 internal politics. I hang my head in shame and shall bear the mark for all time.
  11. I don't really want to beat this dead horse in here. Four charter schools left the Big 12 at about the same time, and anyone with half a brain can understand it was not because they loved the business strategy and negotiating environment inside the conference.
  12. Is it really fascinating? Let's remember who it was that wanted to launch into this discussion with a critique of writing styles, which has nothing at all to do with the topic at hand.
  13. I sincerely don't give a shit about your personal approval of my vocabulary choice. It has nothing to do at all with the circumstances surrounding realignment, which I have not been wrong about. Can you deal with that? Probably not.
