  1. The difference is that the Confederacy's entire purpose was to preserve slavery. Glorification of its leaders is a blatant endorsement of the one value they prioritized. It should be acknowledged that figures like Washington and Jefferson owned slaves, but the American Revolution had a value beyond the personal actions of its leaders. The Confederacy only had one purpose. (Also worth noting that Jefferson fought to outlaw the slave trade and gradually favored emancipation more and more in his later years).
  2. Not gonna get too far into this since this thread really isn't the place for it, but I will say that defending monuments to racists under the guise of "preserving history" is just about the most bullshit argument you can make. If you're so worried about history being lost, maybe we should increase education funding instead of honoring people who dedicated their lives to preserving one of the worst practices the human race has ever engaged in.
  3. Don't think you should be getting negged for this. It's very relevant to look at it from a slave's perspective since Robert E. Lee used to say "The eyes of the south are upon you", which is almost certainly the inspiration for "The Eyes of Texas are upon you."
  4. I'd be proud to have our school song written by Weird Al. That man is a legend.
  5. In my view, it's entirely dependent on how old the person was at the time. A 16 year-old tweeting it out? Stupid, but that shouldn't ruin a career. But Scalley was a 34 year-old man when he said that. His views were fully formed and he should have had the basic awareness to know that's never acceptable, especially considering that 2013 wasn't exactly another era when it comes to the acceptability of saying the n-word.
  6. How hard is it to just not say the n-word? Jesus Christ.
  7. Not to be confused with Camar Wheaton's award for a recruit that looks like he's 50 years old.
  8. Is Jake Garcia expected to flip at some point? If not, then adding Miller Moss makes that the best QB class I can remember
  9. Also worth acknowledging that he told our director of recruiting, who has no football input, to "just coach."
  10. Is there a stronger pipeline in all of recruiting right now than Australia to Austin?
  11. A Notre Dame insider just put in a Texas CB for Alexis
  12. It's all part of his A+ networking skills. Successful people are always communicating. Is that a good enough spin to make $9.95?
  13. I'd sure as shit take their performance over the last ten years over ours.
  14. I wouldn't be against that either, but I don't see our holier-than-thou attitude changing any time soon.
  15. Don't wanna sound too Tex-Ags-sunshine-pump-y here, but fuck it, maybe taking an approach that prioritizes evaluation and scheme fit is what our program needs. It'd be nice if we could shit out a lineup with nothing but five stars, but we're never going to pull that kind of class until we finally win. Maybe building our roster this way is how we accomplish that.
  16. Don't sleep on Drayton, he's going to have a Summer 2019-Giles resurgence over the next 6 months. You heard it here first.
  17. Fuck, the croots are gonna Ben Shapiro us now
  18. This time last year we were at 308. We've got some ground to make up, so I'm all for it.
  19. ...surging? Did I miss something?
  20. Mehringer fucking sucks but I don't think homophobia is the right way to lambast him
  21. ...Minus Julio Jones' most impressive feature
  22. Damn, that's a badass graphic. For all the questionable decisions Herman has made, hiring Matt Lange isn't one of them.
  23. It's okay he's mainly coming here to play school and boost our program rankings anyway
