  1. Y'all are so silly. They're going to fire Jimbo and immediately land their top target for his replacement, Dan Mullen.
  2. Gipson, Wingo, Baker, and Black would rank us 3rd in the current 247 team rankings with a 285.91. uga and fOSU are uncatchable at this point, and bama is currently sitting at 277 so they'd be ahead or in striking distance. On3 drops some of the bottom of the class when it does team rankings to negate class size disparity. IF we close these 4, we would probably rank higher in that model.
  3. Reasons not to freak out No mods on any site have entered new picks, or flipped their existing picks afaik. Fong reiterated Texas over the field this morning. McKinley is a 5* DT and the finalists include baggy, blOitalloninteriorlinemenU, a perennial playoff team, and hometown favorite LSU. This was always going to get more interesting before it ended. Wake me up if the picks start flipping
  4. If we land McKinley, between '23/'24 we'll have stolen 3 of the top 4 LA prospects from swamp aggy. That's crazy considering, but may become the new norm if they can't pull NIL together in a meaningful way. LSU will load up on in-state 4-15, and it will be open season for the top 3.
  5. This warrants more discussion from people who know what the hell they're talking about Is it possible to establish a governing body through an existing entity? Say...the SEC? Other than facilitating the contractual obligations of member states, are there any restrictions on other activities they participate in? or regulate? At initial glance, this strikes me as the most legitimate and probable replacement for the NCAA at the P5 level. That said, I don't know shit about fuck, so...
  6. I would be a proponent of tying NIL payouts to LOI, even if that allows LOIs to be signed ad hoc. Payouts before signing puts the prospect in a really weird position. There are plenty of reasons to decommit between 9/1 and 12/20, even if they committed with the intention of shutting it down. These are teenagers.
  7. Deandre Moore is from Los Alamitos, but went to Bosco. Recently, both Makai Lemon and Malachi Nelson attended Los Alamitos, and the team is ranked 16th in the preseason California top 25 (headlined by Mater Dei). '24 blOU TE commit Davon Mitchell goes there.
  8. Is Congress going to pass good NIL legislation? No, we can't even get rid of daylight savings. Is the wild west good for Texas? Also, no. If schools are afforded advantages by their state legislatures, that's bad for Texas. Is the ability to pay players legally better than holding our nose and doing it illegally on rare occasions? Hell yeah.
  9. You're missing the value of NIL to Texas entirely. The bag man peddles raised funds from private donors. If that was also true of NIL, you'd have a case, but it's not. The value for Texas is a) legitimizing paying players and b) the incredible amount of opportunity to raise public money compared with the other 95% of schools. There will always be more money in NIL, regardless of school, than a bag man could offer. If federal legislation ensures a fair playing field, the bag man is moot. Again, the bag man can not offer the same amount of money that NIL can. They can only pander to immediacy of the bag. While it's unlikely that the federal government will be able to create and pass meaningful NIL legislation, it would be a net benefit to regulate when athletes can first be paid, what ability states have to advocate for prospects to stay in state, etc. There is significantly more value to Texas in setting a floor for how the big money works than trying to punish the small money.
  10. What lack of guardrails helped in the Colin Simons recruitment? Are you suggesting that swamp aggy's final counter was entirely above board? In a world without bagmen, we win more recruitments. That's not to say that I have any idea how to craft federal NIL legislation, but the idea that bagmen existing is good for Texas is wild.
  11. Football intern seems to be reading the roster like one contiguous position gro....nevermind.
  12. If only JQJ had stuck to QB... You can bet they'll let him launch a couple off a toss if Rising is out.
  13. He wouldn't even mention it if said WR hadn't ever visited, therefore, it's Gekyle Baker. We were one of his first offers, he's visited thrice, and is committed to frog. For context, here are WR candidates for "massive" flips who have visited Texas: 5* Jeremiah Smith - 1 (4/22) - fOSU 4* Gekyle Baker - 3 (10/22, 1/23, 4/23) - TCU 4* Dre'lon Miller - 2 (4/22 & 9/22) - aggy 4* Gatlin Bair - 1 (3/23) - Boise 4* Joshisa Trader - 1 (4/22) - Miami 4* TJ Moore - 1 (3/23) - Clemson
  14. Both fair quibbles. Guilbeau has done enough stupid shit that I'm not counting on him for anything more than depth. Finkley played out of necessity, will play out of necessity again, and will likely be out of a job next year. Hence, depth.
  15. I haven't spent any time reviewing prospect ratings this cycle but checked the current state of the class, outstanding targets, etc, after Simmons committed. TH and CS were landing mid to high 4*s (93-97) with regularity, and for us, that was always an acceptable, safe bet. While neither staff effectively developed anyone, it's also fair to say that Texas hsfb overexposes guys with mediocre athleticism and enough skills training to hide their deficiencies. This cycle has been the opposite of that. Using the On3 composite, we have 1 mid 4* (Gibson), and with the exception of mayyyyyyyyybe Blake Ivy, we aren't even recruiting any others right now. '22 (we took eight) is actually a really good example of what that range of rating looks like after 18 months on the roster, especially compared with the 8 below them. It appears Sark has learned a lesson: On3 Composite 2024 Expectations Brooks 95.9 Probable starter Neto 95 6th or 7th OL Thompson 94.43 Transfer Allen 93.87 Depth Finkley 93.69 Depth Tapp 93.56 3rd or 4th DE Bledsoe 93.3 Depth Guilbeau 93.1 Still on the team Ross 92.29 Depth Blue 92.25 RB3 Murphy 91.7 QB2 Jordan 91.42 2 deep Williams 90.9 2 deep Bryant 90.08 Depth Burke 89.76 2nd or 3rd Edge LTG 89.56 Depth
