  1. Wife was on a jury a couple of weeks ago in Travis County. A guy went on a multi-hour crime spree involving crashing into cars, attempting to steal the car, and trying to force the car owner into the trunks of their own cars. Everyone got away, fortunately. This was the first case of attempted aggravated kidnapping in Travis County in over 10 years. The ADA who had been working the case for over 1 year had a family emergency and handed off the case. The new ADA had about 1 working day of prep. Being able to speak to the judge and attorneys after the case was useful to her. She expressed some displeasure that the ADA chose not to disclose his priors during the sentencing phase. ADA said he did not realize it would have affected the sentencing. Huh? Overall great experience for her.
  2. Yeah. Saw that after. Hope the guy is ok
  3. Can’t be good. On the one replay I saw,It looks like a textbook targeting call. Head to head.
  4. The last few pages have been glorious: "Just for men reference" - beat me to the punch "Day turned them in" - he should, it is his duty as tosu coach (as @Huckleberry noted) How do they know Day turned them in? Hacking? 11 lawmakers asking for deference - Isn't there some superfund site (like Flint) that should be taking your attention Since Stallions was suspended (Oct 20), MOV has improved - against the powerhouses of Michigan State and Purdue - also, sample size 2 = moron statement; oh and you only beat Purdue by 28. They SUCK! Michigan folks citing Antitrust, "everyone else does it", and other excuses and rationalizations. And we thought MSU was the aggy school
  5. Yeah - congrats on hitting the shot. And on finding a surly-approved videographer
  6. Cry some more as the game checks continue to clear.
  7. The real 12th man is Kevin Mar’s crew
  8. Does not matter if we take care of business. That said, F joey and F Yormark. TCU it is.
  9. https://craftbeeraustin.com/oskar-blues-closed?mibextid=Zxz2cZ Wild. I was just there on Sunday. Austin has seen a rash of brewery closures over the past few months and the North Austin Brewery District has been hit the hardest with the closure of 4th Tap Brewing Co-op (July 2022), Adelbert’s Brewery (October 2022), and most recently Circle Brewing Co. (September 2023).
  10. Perhaps someone w/ a really good camera could take pictures/videos of the play sheets at the same time as the signs are being sent to the players. And it could possibly result in less time for decrypting... Just a random thought.
  11. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to call for the field-goal in Texas’ 2nd Drive of the second half. They had gone three and out in their first drive of The second half. BYU followed that by with a 68 yard drive settling for a field goal. Going up by 18 changes the complexion of the game. BYU was never able to exploit the 10 yard cushion our corners were giving them. However, we had seen that too many times in the past, so there was a chance. PTSD As much as we want to see our goal line offense practiced, we also should have our coaches practice what they would do in real games. Take the three possession lead, and let the defense unload on them. That said, happy for the win.
  12. Watching Ohio State against Wisconsin. Halftime graphic shows that Ohio State is 6–0 win leading at halftime. What a stupid fucking graphic. They’re undefeated this year. oh, and Wisconsin could not push it in from the two either. However, they settled for the field-goal
  13. We're screwed. J/K. So long as Taysom Hill does not magically have another game of eligibility, I think Texas is fine.
  14. I think a coaching staff of 11 random folks on this thread could get those OU teams to 8 wins. Sure, we'd have to hire a mediocre Texas HS coach as a consultant, but...
  15. My experience is the same as @TwiceHorn. Realtors commonly negotiate it as a part of a purchase. In the scheme of the sale, sellers see it as a low cost item. It can add peace of mind to the buyers, as it will cover appliances, plumbing, HVAC, etc - items that *could* be missed during an inspection. The warranty companies have contracts with local contractors or repair companies. And they can be some of the weaker or more desperate contractors, as noted. On a property I owned, I'd request warranty service and then assess who got assigned. One time, I was given a plumber with universally bad reviews. I canceled. Other times, I got a "Sears Appliance Repair" service for a refrigerator problem. One guy was incompetent. Another guy was extremely competent. YMMV. In general, warranties are not a great deal for the purchaser. The warranty company is in business to make money - not to solve every problem. I know someone who had > $3000 in claims in his home warranty. The home warranty company sent a notification that they would not allow a renewal.
  16. Given everyone thought we were stuck with him indefinitely, it was among the best ideas out there.
  17. I have never had the opportunity to see U2 live, despite them being one of my favorite bands. Timelines and locations never worked out. Before their first show a the Sphere, tickets could be easily found on ticketmaster - non-resale. They are largely gone now. My son will be in Vegas for a conference and he was able to score floor GA tickets - before the first show. Face value was $300 + $70 handling fee. I think the folks dove in hoping to resell.
  18. You had already received many kudos for this post, but I wanted to reinforce this. And to say, "guilty as charged." There are many contributions to this. First, engineers make decent money right out of college. Second, most employers have very good benefits. Third, engineering professions have relatively low unemployment rates. Fourth, most have parents w/ technical backgrounds and we nudge them in a direction we understand. Yes, myopia. Edited to add: for the most part, there is a clear and calculable ROI on the cost of college. Also, more than most other disciplines, classes in HS and college (esp. in programming) give someone a feel for what they will be doing at age 25. High school (or even lower division college) econ, history, and english classes do not do that for a business, psych, or econ profession. The programming and intro engineering classes do (Calc classes notwithstanding.)
  19. For my older kids, we started "informal" college visits after 8th grade year. In most/all cases, the younger ones tagged along. As a consequence, all of them got to see/feel/etc. the environments of places like Texas, Texas A&M, SMU, TCU, UTD, etc. I recommend gettning started before junior year. My youngest graduated HS in 2023. Because of COVID, we did not (or could not) visit any colleges from Mar'20 - May'22. As a result, he did not have a really good feel for any of the places - and a 2-day whirlwind visit of colleges will not often do the trick. He narrowed his selections to Texas A&M, Purdue, and RPI, wanting to major in CS. He did not want to go to UT. Narrowed further to Purdue and RPI (because of the way A&M handles "freshman engineering") and ultimately chose Purdue. We'll see how he likes that decision in February... We were tried to nudge a little toward SMU (closer to home, smaller school, decent ECE program, strong Dallas area internships, etc), but he did not have the same feeling. Did not want ECE and the SMU CS dept has been a little disorganized as of late. Also, he was turned off by the fact that some of the less capable, more foolish kids from his school were going to SMU.
  20. Are you rooting for both of them? They are both abhorrent.
  21. I was a big DM fan in HS, through "Some Great Reward." They could really play; outstanding for the genre. Same with Duran Duran and INXS. For each of them, I really preferred their earlier work over their later work. IMO, "Don't Change" is INXS's best song. That said, some of Duran Duran's top 10 songs were from their 2nd eponymous release in 1993 (Ordinary World and Come Undone). None of those bands had what I would consider a superstar talent at any of their instruments (well, DM made some VERY original electronic sounds and some of the early remixes were fantastic). For example, Steve Smith (Journey), Stewart Copeland (Police) are. EVH was. etc. They had above average musicians, above average songwriting, and very strong frontmen.
