Went to Baffin Bay with some guys in my fly fishing group this weekend. Headed down on Thursday with a stop at Reese Bros Barbecue in the way down (see Texas BBQ thread).
Stayed at a really nice AirBNB right on the bay.
Shortly after the sun went down, three of us went to a house with a lighted pier. I caught three keeper trout and ten more undersized - all on a small, white, clouser I tied the day before. At the end of the night, there was nothing left but white thread and bread chain eyes.
Next morning four of us met up with a guy that ferried us out about half way down the Kennedy shoreline. Started with a tan Gurgler which paid off with two trout. After the sun went up, I switched to my second small white clouser. Over the next hour, I landed nine trout, a ladyfish, a piggy perch, and a black drum. Moved to another spot and caught a nice ladyfish on a gold spoon fly. Back at the house at 12:30.
That night we went to Baffin Bay Seafood Company for a good dinner, then back to the lighted pier. It was more wind which made fly casting difficult, so I casted a few times and landed a trout, then headed back. Those that stayed caught several more trout, some on a Tenkara rig.
Saturday back out to the Kennedy shoreline, almost out to the Laguna Madre. Fishing wasn't as good and the wind came earlier. I landed a couple trout on a flash minnow fly, but others were ready to move on to another spot. Those were my last fish of the day. Hit a couple more spots on the way back, but I didn't have any further luck. There were a few more fish caught by others, including a black drum and two redfish. Chilled at the house the remainder of the afternoon and she trout, redfish, and drum for dinner.
I was more than pleased with my first trip to Baffin Bay.
