  1. I've really never thought of this but you raise an interesting point. Do you know of any tax consequences on 529 withdrawals to pay for international universities?
  2. How do we get out of this pandemic? 100% vaccination? Never going to happen. How else do we get out of this pandemic?
  3. I think he was arrested some time when I was in college at UT (so 12, 13 years ago?). He got caught with child porn at a hidden cabin and was apparently talking to some undercover cop posing as an underage kid either on craigslist or something. Anyway, cops arrested him, he got sent to the federal pen for 2 or 3 years and is a registered sex offender. I've seen him a grand total of once since he got out and it was earlier this year at my mom's sister's funeral. My mom has always tried to be the peacemaker with her family and it drives my dad and I absolutely nuts. They want no part of our lives. Stop inviting them to shit.
  4. Update: heard back from my mom. Her pedo brother and his wife will be there Thursday. Yeah…us three will eat on the back porch. Thanks!
  5. I just recently started stopping at 90 degrees for my elbows on dumbbell presses and holy shit, my shoulders feel so much better. I’ve never had any issues with my shoulders (33 years old) but want to take care of them as best as possible.
  6. Please enlighten me with your reasoning. I'd love to hear it.
  7. I just asked yesterday for a spot around the Boerne area and greenspoint said Black Board BBQ in Sisterdale just north of Boerne. If I map out Austin to Marfa, just hang a left off 290 at Luckenbach and hang a left on 1376 and it's only about 20 minutes down the road. It's in the honorable mentions and looks legit. I'm stopping there on my way to the lease in a few weeks. I'll definitely report back and you should too if you go.
  8. Probably not the best idea to throw MORE money at the US economy when inflation is high, unemployment is up and there are supply shortages of consumer goods/services due to lack of production and workforce, don't you think? Or, do we not talk about economic policy in this thread?
  9. 20 minutes from my hotel. I'm there. Checked out some reviews and looks legit. I'll get there early or call it in and eat with the kid on the tailgate if I have to. Thanks man.
  10. Can't find this place in the google machine. I have a feeling 2M will be closed by the time I arrive in San Antonio from Houston. It would most definitely be sold out. I'm leaving here at 4:30PM on a Saturday and driving to Boerne and was looking for a place to eat lunch the next day before heading out to Sonora/El Dorado.
  11. Thanks for the recommendation. If you think it’s mediocre, I‘ll have to investigate before stopping there.
  12. Need some recommendations for a good place in or around Boerne. Traveling to Sonora/El Dorado to the deer lease in a few weeks.
  13. I remember when I was in college and my wife (then girlfriend) was telling me how screwed up her family was. I said "Oh yeah? Try me". I won. I haven't spoken to my brother in 10+ years and he hasn't spoken to my parents in that long either. That is not because of me. I've attempted to reach out but stopped about 5 years ago after my son was born. The entire side of my mom's family is either a) raging alcoholics who are either in the process of dying, or dead, b) serial narcissists who have more spouses than I have dress socks, c) been incarcerated multiple times (both of her brothers - one for possession and distribution of meth, the other for shady dark web shit) or d) drug addicts (see 3)). It's kinda odd how "normal" my mom is, all things considered. The history of alcoholism that runs in my family is why I don't drink (one or two drinks per year). I REALLY try to limit spending time with my mom's side of the family for the reasons above. They just aren't good people to be around, especially with a 5 year old in tow. My parents are fantastic folks though.
  14. Weedwacker string dude. Close. Whole different ballgame this year. Thanksgiving will consist of two meals. One on Thursday with my parents (and crazy aunt and uncle) and the other with my in laws on Friday which will be much more chill (well...as chill as it could be given my sister-in-law and brother-in-law). A few weeks ago, much to my disapproval, my mom invited her sister (and her husband) and her brother (and his wife) to thanksgiving at their house in Tyler. Now, my aunt has been married 6 times (I believe - my dad says he has to use two hands to count now). This husband is a retired life insurance actuary with a wine problem. Weird thing is...they keep tabs on each other constantly. If my mom and her sister go somewhere to eat, he will call in the middle of the meal and ask her what she's eating. She'll call him when he orders a pizza and has it delivered because she will monitor the front door cameras religiously. My mom's brother who is coming to thanksgiving was arrested about 15 years ago for possession (I won't say what of - he's on the registered sex offender list) but has apparently turned his life around. GTFO of here with that shit. I really enjoy talking with his wife though. She's very down to earth and chill. That whole shindig will be my parents, my dad's sister, those two couples, and my family (wife, son & I). Friday, I'm smoking 4 racks of ribs at my in laws. I might even do a pork belly. We'll see. My MIL just finished up her chemo and radiation about 2 months ago. My FIL just wants someone to cook and hang out with as he hates his other son-in-law. Like, literally hates. My sister-in-law (the one who is coming to thanksgiving) and her husband are the most worthless human beings on the face of the planet. Well, mainly just her husband. They are both raging alcoholics and the husband has to have control over everything she says, does, the way she looks, etc. But here's the kicker, he has no job and has had no job for his entire life. Like, if you look at his "resume", it's blank. He freeloads off his parents. They have been without running water since the freeze last February. Yes, you read that correctly. They "shower" with the garden hose. They have no way to do their own laundry so they borrow other people's washer and dryer. His dad is building them a house right next door to their house in Conroe. It should be finished by December (so that's almost a year without running water). He has conditioned her in to thinking that it's all normal and not out of the ordinary. Yet, there are people in fucking Africa and the Amazon that have better living accommodations than they do. So anywho, I'm taking my son to the deer lease the Sunday before thanksgiving and hunting with my FIL, processing deer Wednesday with my in laws, smoking meat on Friday and watching football with my FIL. As for Christmas - stay tuned.
  15. Oh, you mean from things that have a high likelihood of killing him or having a serious consequence to his health? He sure as hell is vaccinated against those things. The coronavirus that has killed about 700 kids under the age of 18 in a population of 70 million or so in the US, with the majority of those deaths coming from kids with preexisting conditions? The virus he’s already had and was literally sick for a day with a slight cough and runny nose? That one? Seems pretty low risk to me especially since he already has antibodies. But hey, you do you man. What do you care? You’re vaccinated (I’m assuming). You aren’t going to die if you get sick.
  16. I don’t really care either way. My son has natural immunity, which no one wants to talk about. I’ll let his pediatrician tell me if she thinks it’s a good idea to get it for him at this time. I’m not for a mandate and I’m not against one.
  17. I guess I just don’t understand vaccine mandates. You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink. If someone wants to roll the dice, good luck. Mandating a vaccine isn’t going to change the situation to a point where life will go back to normal like it was a few summers ago. People have already really made up their mind on if they’re getting the shot for the most part. First dose shots are a fraction of what they were 3 months ago. There’s just no demand for it. And I’m not one of those “mah freezomz” guys either. I’m just trying to look at it logically. I got Covid in January, got vaxxed in March and April and will be getting a booster in December. It sucked and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.
  18. They were OK. Didn’t even get to take a picture of the back ribs before my wife devoured them.
  19. Sorry, beef back ribs rather than short ribs. Salt and CGBP, no binder team.
  20. Got a rack of beef short ribs and small 3 bone Dino rib rack from a cow I split with my folks going on for dinner tonight. Firing up the UDS. I built this thing with my FIL during last years winter storm and it’s still going strong. Cost less than $100 to build. This thing is amazing. Royal oak lump charcoal with some pecan wood chunks.
  21. I'm kinda out of the loop - can Casey come back next year?
  22. I switched up my diet and am going the low-fat, semi-body building diet of protein + carbs and low fats (40% protein, 35% carbs, 25% fat) and lost 7 pounds in a month. Down to 181. I also started tracking calories and weighing food. Needless to say I need to eat more. On most days, I'm getting around 200g of protein (might be a tad high) and around 60g of fat (sweet spot). I might need to up the carb intake honestly.
