  1. Not wishcasting Utah anything. I don't want them in the CCG or playoff. I shared an observation that with that high of a ranking now, they are still in the mix. They do have a path or two, but they are not in control of their destiny. BYU could falter down the stretch (we did last year) and Tech, TCU, and Cinci are a gauntlet. But, I expect us to go 2-1 there (plus a win vs UCF), give Cinci its third loss, and end up in the CCG at 11-1. If we do that, then I think we are in the playoff win or lose.
  2. Good observations on Big 12. If BYU loses to Tech, BYU shouldn't drop below Utah. We both would have losses vs Tech and BYU beat Utah head to head. BYU would only have one loss versus Utah's two. Utah being so high right now could create some messiness.
  3. Has any NBA player made so much from contributing so little?
  4. BTW Utah is at 13 and they will probably win out. Could be problematic.
  5. This is obviously a big measuring stick for us, too. I realize the doubts about BYU have to do with a soft OOC schedule, some come-from-behind wins to middling programs, we aren't blowing teams out, and we have a freshman QB. Here's a few thoughts on that. We needed a soft early schedule and ramp up for our freshman QB who showed up after spring ball and has had to adjust to college, learn the playbook, etc. Every week he gets better, looks better, utilizes more of the playbooks, etc. He has become a very capable quarterback and passed every test so far, including not panicking and forcing stuff when we have gotten behind. He has been protecting the football very well so far (*knocks on wood*). He has become a very good QB in the meantime. I did hear something interesting from someone that might know, but I haven't heard this anywhere else. Bear might be slightly on the spectrum and he does not experience stress, nerves, or fear like other people do. Not sure if it's true, but the kid is one cool customer. Tech dominated Utah and BYU only won by 3, but that's a super-heated rivalry game. Weird stuff happens. BYU was pretty much in control most of the game and Utah got a very late TD when BYU was running a prevent defense. Also, Kalani's style is not to run up the score, but to slowly choke you out and just win with clock management and defense down the stretch. But Tech did look better against a common opponent. The close game with Colorado can partially be explained by: Bear's first road game, Colorado having that game circled after we punked them in the bowl game. They did stuff that we had not seen before. Once we adjusted, we came back and put Colorado away. We jumped out to a 14 point lead vs Arizona, but then we had a long lightning delay and the field was wet. Game dynamic changed after the delay. Iowa State had a bye week before our game and were desperate to win that one, so they threw everything at us. We took the shot and then clamped down on them going 31-3 in the second half. Our coaches have been very good with adjustments, so we seem to perform better in the second half. If we win, I will know we have a very good team that is capable of making a post-season run. Tech is the class of the conference until proven otherwise. I do think BYU is very capable of beating Tech tho. I can't wait for the game.
  6. wut? Big 12 is 6-1 vs the ACC this year.
  7. Where Dillingham ends up, I am particularly curious about. Maybe they are moreso than I am aware, but I am surprised that more contracts aren't more heavily incentive-based.
  8. Ticket prices for the upcoming game 🤯:
  9. I literally said in my post that BYU's OOC schedule is fair criticism. I reject the premise that the Big 12 is a weak conference. The upper echelon can compete with anyone. ASU was this close to beating UT in the playoff last year, a team we should have beat last year on the road and it came down to the last play of the game. SEC and Big 10 have their dregs, too. I would be happy if we scheduled a blue blood OOC. But will a blue blood be willing to schedule us going forward? We are capable of beating a blue blood, so there is more risk than reward for them, so I think blue bloods will avoid us OOC. I think we will get more like UT vs OSU (one tough OOC matchup) and then the rest will be OOC body bag games. You get credit for playing a tough OOC and then pad the schedule with easies. Not a direct criticism of UT, just what I expect to see going forward generally. I also think the incentive for someone like BYU is to schedule easier OOC to rack up the wins in order to make the playoff, knowing that the only way in to the playoff outside of the conference championship is no more than 1 loss. I do think FBS should not be playing FCS, unless there is a preseason type situation.
  10. A weak OOC schedule for BYU is a fair criticism. Don't be crowing about Texas, though. You lost against the only good OOC team you played. (Points for scheduling it though.) The ones you beat? SJSU, Sam Houston State, and UTEP. Woop. Slow your OOC smack roll.
  11. SEC with 5 teams and Big 12 only 1? SEC a bunch of greedy fart sniffers. Barring a collapse, BYU and Tech should be in, and dare I say it, maybe Utah deserves it, too.
  12. CBS Sports projecting Texas @ BYU in the first round. Winner gets Texas A&M. 👀
