  1. the hall of fame has such a weird relationship with closers/relievers. there are only 8 currently in, and a few have gotten in ~recently, as saves have only been an official stat since 1969. here's something i came across i found interesting. consider this season: 6-6, 37 saves. 101ip, 110k, 32bb. 2.22 era, 1.89 fip, 0.977 whip, 188 era+ this was hall-of-famer bruce sutter's 1979 season. he won the nl cy young and finished 7th in the mvp. he had five top 6 cy young finishes and five top 10 mvp finishes, all with seasons like ^^ that. it wasn't his best season by any available metric. that's just what baseball was like then. he only played 12 seasons, and a couple at the end were pretty shitty. he only played in one postseason, for the 1982 cardinals. notched 2 wins and 3 saves in the nlcs/ws. yes, playoffs were much different then. getting in was extremely difficult. he was only the 4th reliever elected at the time, and finally got over 75% (76.3) on his 13th try. didn't get in on some weird veterans committee bullshit. they've got to figure this shit out. part of me says you can't let everyone in, but the other part of me is perfectly ok with letting anyone with wagner's career stats in. bring 'em on.
  2. well there was some drama about whether it would qualify for original screenplay (which it should've been) or adapted, since there's no source material. seems odd that barbie is adapted and may december is original, since i think it was based on a specific story, with plenty of source material (but no ip).
  3. i assumed that as well due to the area of the country, even knowing she was indian in real life (dot). indira is also an indian name (not feather), so i wouldn't feel too stupid about it.
  4. you can go watch the problem if you're curious about it.
  5. in west hollywood, you could actually hear the moment biden won the election. i have a feeling his death will be similar.
  6. if his victory speech is any indication, he will die doing what he loved, lying about elections.
  7. i thought cooper the director was better than cooper the actor or maestro the movie. technically the movie was very good to great.
  8. going into the golden globes, lilly gladstone and cillian murphy were locks, and they both won. then in the critics choice, the 2 that won for comedy (emma stone and giamatti) both overtook the 2 that won for drama - that rarely happens. will be interesting if that trend continues. downey will win and should win. funny that he made a speech at critics choice about the critics panning several of his earlier performances, because it seems that while his personal life was a mess (pre iron man obviously), his work was usually solid, if underappreciated. unless it was a review of back to school or johnny b goode or something dumb.
  9. are we sure that’s retro? it might just be 1985 in hempstead still.
  10. he’s getting closer and closer to getting my vote.
  11. she was obviously trying to say something else, but what?
  12. it should take years of intense training to be able to obfuscate like that.
  13. i don't mind the team-up, but the flashbacks were a lot. reacher lives by a code. it's really simple. if he says stuff about people, we're inclined to believe it. we don't need 2 hours of flashbacks in an 8 hour season.
