  1. OU rivals guys were alluding to a large payment throughout a podcast yesterday. 1 m/ yr is in the range the Surly NIL gurus have been bantering about for top players. This seems plausible. I hope Hicks takes care of his money, and, if things don't work out in College Station, OU may still be interested in 1-2 years.
  2. Disgusting. "Jay Jones" needs to take a break to remember this is a sport and that individuals have a chance for self determination.
  3. Hopefully Lebbeus Overton and/or Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy become available on the transfer market this spring.
  4. So a third of a way through the season, let's check some receipts: 1. Gabriel is an asset because of his experience, but the issue he's having is accuracy. Accuracy can manifest as turnover-worthy throws, but so far it's being critical 3rd down misses that have cost OU. 2. RB have been above average, not great. 3. WR/TE have been above expectations. Willis and Mims are two of OU's best players and will be day 2 draft picks on their current trajectory. Farooq and Wease have met or exceeds their preseason expectations. Stoops has been himself. We haven't seen much of the other TE/WR. 4. OL has been hit and miss. They have started slow each game and improved within games and between games. If they continue to improve, this could be a good group as the season progresses. Hopefully, several of them return next year (Anton Harrison could leave, but could be dominant in 2023). 5. The DL looked ok vs inferior teams, and then were JAGs vs a tough running scheme (KSt) who has excellent running personnel. 6. Same as the DL, LB looked good vs poor offenses, and KSt had them confused, frustrated, and exhausted. DeShaun White needs to move back to LB forming a three man rotation with Stutsman and Ugwoegbu. The "cheetah" spacebacker guy can be filled by Kanak/Harrington. 7. DBs were terrible vs the run and pass vs KSt, but this group has been more aggressive and appears to be much better coached this year in general.
  5. This must be a euphemism
  6. I agree. As an OU fan, I understand the attraction is stealing a player with UT connections. But Vasek would, in my estimation, be the weakest of OU's DL takes so far this year.
  7. Injuries are a big part of the post-Bama hangover. Sorry.
  8. Really knew ball. Sounded like he played a fun game and enjoyed it too. Had a young family. Buy disability and life insurance.
  9. I had end zone seats for that game. One of my last in person college football games.
  10. Frost's supposedly excellent at run game schemes. With several million in the bank, it would be a cool way to chill and spend a couple of years. Keep him away from the defense, special teams, and game day decision-making.
  11. Skeletons playing defense is part of the problem.
  12. 100% To get the snaps he's gotten, Gray must be a better blocker or something because Major is better at all the obvious stuff (running/catching).
  13. OL was quite terrible vs UTEP too.
  14. If the gloves fit, you must commit. Or something.
  15. I agree, but I'm looking forward. OU didn't show an edge pass rush. Sooners do look tough to run against.
  16. Defense: Pluses: Run defense is sound. LB look like they've been coached. Bowman looks great--someone his girlfriend can be proud of. Minuses: Pass rush is non-existent. Broiles still played. A lot. DBs are an open question. Offense: Pluses: Able to run vs a poor run defense. Took what they were given. Minuses: UTEP defense isn't a real unit so hard to gauge anything.
  17. Not true. UTEP and UNT were equal in yardage, UTEP couldn't convert 4th downs (2/6). UTEP's offense is good. But UTEPs defense is terrible. OU should score TDs every drive.
  18. I can't remember which coach said it, but one of them said that OU may try EIGHT cornerbacks. We have depth! (or they all suck)
  19. Definitely true, but the loss of a coach to a California school for the reasons Riley outlined hits Oklahoma, the state, with truths that go back decades. Now OU fans see Riley struggling to recruit relative to Venables' success. It's hard to blame Sooner fans for schadenfreude.
  20. There's so much sunshine being pumped this year in Norman that it's the epicenter of global warming. Dillon Gabriel is an asset because of his experience, but he also had a high rate of turnover-worthy throws at UCF. WR group is relying on contributions from several players with few or no catches. RB have two under-performers from 2021 listed at #1 and #2. OL has had a steady trajectory down from 2017-2018 and breaks in 3 new starters. The defense under-performed last year and lost its best players at each level. Not all of these situations are going to go sideways, but there is a path down for OU too. I frankly don't like football that much anymore (takes all day, CTE; basketball, soccer are just more entertaining), but I'm super interested to see how much truth there is to claims being made by Venables and crew.
  21. But why wouldn't recruits just go to a school that's already in the SEC if that were the draw?
  22. That 284 number is the number I'm talking about as being inflated. Don't use it as the recruiting services are giving out more 4 and 5 stars. That said, as indicated above, OU's not had more than 5 top-100 guys in a class from 2013 to now. So far, they have EIGHT with a good shot at Renaud and some chance with a couple of others. I'm also impressed with the lower ranked recruits they're bringing in. Even the guy from Nebraska who's ranked in the 800s has ridiculous testing numbers.
