  1. You don't live stream a regents meeting to discuss usual, boring University related matters:
  2. "But think of the exposure, marketing and opportunities!" Kliavkoff, probably.
  3. I'm seeing endless ads for other kinds of shit, like AI, crypto, AI + crypto, prepper food stuff, etc. Also noticing some new trend of a large black "follow" button at the bottom of many ads.
  4. But it would be absolutely hilarious all the same, and fitting for the Pac's death blow to be delivered via the Twitter account of a collegiate mascot.
  5. He changed the new logo today. Then changed it back, today. https://www.theverge.com/2023/7/25/23807418/twitter-x-logo-design-change-elon-musk
  6. My FIL lost his battle with ALS in late April this year at age 62. When he was diagnosed in late Spring 2021, he was himself. From the moment of his diagnosis, he went downhill rapidly. One of the saddest things I've ever seen as an adult was at Christmas 2022. My wife and children, her siblings and their children and whatnot was at his home. Kids opening gifts, people exchanging gifts and so forth. I looked over to him and he was absolutely bawling his eyes out. It hit me; he had no idea if this was his last Christmas or not. A couple of weeks before he passed, he had almost completely lost the ability to make any kind of words, only some noises. I was sitting in a chair beside him. He reached out for my hand, looked at me, took a deep breath, and thanked me for taking care of his daughter. I lost it. Carry on everyone.
  7. I'll never step foot into it, but I'm sure it will go over well: https://www.fox5vegas.com/2023/07/24/whataburger-coming-las-vegas-with-247-strip-location/
  8. I check out Facebook maybe every few weeks. Most of my (41) classmates from high school are on there, and their parents/siblings/whatnot. You know, keep up with small town stuff from afar. Signed in a bit ago, and one of my closest friends and his wife checked in from seeing the movie this past weekend. There were close to 100 comments from people I've known for decades about how the media and government is ignoring this completely, and how this movie is helping to illuminate the problem. Of course, the comments steered off into (paraphrasing) "Biden allows it!" or "Trump will stop this!" or so forth. I signed out of Facebook. I guess I'd rather have seen criticism of the Barbie movie from the same people. I'm sure they have done that (or will soon enough) as well, but I didn't go searching.
  9. Well, that, plus the amount of regulatory stuff that a Chinese app had to go through vs what a app in this country (how the fuck are they gonna square up loans, stock trading and savings account with the FTC decree they currently can't adhere to?). Also, not to mention getting banking approval in all the EU countries as well. Also, as I've read, in many parts of China the cell access is poor, so rather than downloading several apps, you download one that can do it all. Not such an issue for nearly all of the markets that Elon wants to play in.

  11. May mean nothing at all. I’m in Vegas staying at Encore. The PAC-12 media day is going on, at this very minute across the street at Resorts World, which I can see out the window This entire week there has been absolutely zero signage or promotion on that property what’s going on there today. Here’s a live pic Plenty of Tina Fey and Katie Perry promotion, however
  12. The Sphere nightly light show has probably done as much to fuck up traffic on the strip, especially northbound between Caesars and Wynn, than anything. It’s utterly amazing to see people from 3 lanes over try to get into the single right hand turn lane at Palazzo to drive by the damned thing. The taxi drivers at night are all bitching about the Sphere more than anything right now. They concur the stuff necessary for F1 has been bad enough, but the turning on the Sphere at night has been bad as well.

  14. We just got back to the room from the pool. We spent just over 7 hours there. We get a cabana, eat breakfast in it, drink, go get in the pool for a while, go back to the cabana and drink some more. Have a snack. Repeat. Of course, you don’t need a cabana, but it gives you some shade and a couch to lay on for a while. Hell, you can watch tv in there if you wanted. If that doesn’t interest you, but art does, Area 15 is less than a 10 minute Uber ride away, and it’s an easy way to spend some time. Went there last year, started going through Omega Mart, and failed to realize we had been in there 4 hours.
