  1. Thats a good book, Chad. Ive read ton of musician biography/autobiographies and it was one of the better ones I've read. Im in the middle of Neil Young's "Waging a Heavy Peace" right now. Really well written, he wrote it himself, except he keeps going in to the Pono thing - it was written when he was pushing that.
  2. It actually belongs to my former and future bass player Jessica, but she keeps it here. It's really great little amp and convenient in my bedroom since I can stack a guitar amp on top. Plenty loud and has a line out for the PA if you need more. We rehearse a lot in my bedroom, everybody in the bar downstairs and half the neighborhood probably knows our entire set by now.
  3. Our 1st proper show is this week, a leather daddy gay bar in San Francisco that will be packed. Actually a pretty good venue where I've seen shows but never played. I can't decide between which of these 2 guitars to bring. They both have the same pickups, the V sounds a little fuller in the neck position, but the Jet sounds a lot better in the bridge - I do nearly the whole thing in the neck position.
  4. Came to post this just cause I just stumbled across it randomly, but its timely in that it relates to Buzz's last post here. What is it about those '59 bursts?
  5. This guy had one, it was bigger than he was! Edit - Never noticed what's happening on the side of those amps heads. Are those fans they installed to keep them cool? Brilliant.
  6. As the resident Gretsch freak, I look forward to this purchase. I did not realize a White Falcon had a longer scale. I thought it was the same body size and scale length of a 6120. Learn something new.
  7. The V got rocked last night. The Filtertrons i put in it are bright enough pull off stuff that i wrote for a Telecaster. We are booked to open a club show in a few weeks. We really need more material.
  8. Mono or Gator. My R8 stays in a fairly hefty Gator bag. I feel its more secure there than on its case.
  9. Can't hurt! Sorry to hear this. I remember when you had that fall, I told you it would heal soon. Wish I had been correct. Work with what you got, you'll find a way.
  10. I think I've shared some of this here before, but not all of it. Many of you know from this thread that we were recording an album when the pandemic hit. For several reasons, its lingered over the course of time since, but we finally have it at the goal line. What I'm pasting below is the final mixes and track list we've agreed on and the artwork that still has a few tweaks to come, mainly with title as it appears at the bottom. This still needs to be mastered, then I am going to try and shop it to a label for release, but I will release it myself if I can't find any takers. If anybody knows any labels that may be interested, please let me know who and I'll reach out. There will be a small run pressed on vinyl. I don't expect any hits or anything from it, I just want to document something that I am very proud to have created and been a part of. It was a learning experience and I'm already writing for the next project with the bass player. That project will be quite different. I know there's another thread for this. I may cross post there after mastering, but this is the thread I have the longest history with.
  11. Pat Green was my close friend David's little brother in Jr High, up until they enrolled in a local private school. Probably the wealthiest family in our town. I loved spending time at their place. My family was dirt poor, but they had a big ranch with horses, ATVs, go carts, you name it. From what I've been told, Pat grew up to be a giant douche to everyone we grew up with.
  12. Thats cool as hell, BMF. Sometime when you're in LA you should drive out to Bakersfield and have lunch at the Chrystal Palace, or catch a show there. It was a venue owned by Buck and has a museum of his stuff inside. Aside from the guitars, costumes, and photos, the Nudie Buick Convertible that he bought from Elvis is on display above the bar.
  13. Thanks. BTW, it was supposed to be a one-time thing with our friend ad-libbing lyrics. We put the name "Dirty Years" on the flyer and I think we spent more time coming up with that name than we did rehearsing. It went well enough that we got invited to play a halloween party next weekend, so i think Im in a band again. Dirty Years, I like it.
  14. I got to play out for the 1st time since before the pandemic this weekend and the pink Tele got some action, the P-Bass too. Good times. This was our drummer girls 1st ever live show, a block party - she just began learning to play during lockdown. She was pumped afterward, thanked me for helping introduce her to a new high. I was shocked we pulled it off.
  15. Agreed. Incredible in everyway, including the circumstances and story around it being written. A perfect song.
  16. What do we know about Reverend Guitars around here? I became aware of this Kyle Shutt Signature today. Super hot. I dont think Ive ever played a Reverend. Link
  17. I would get new ones. I tried drilling out once and ended up getting a crack in the overlay. The ferrul covered it, but it was still a scare. There are 3 or 4 different sizes manufactures drill for and they are all so close its hard to figure out what you have. I usually read reviews until I find someone who has successfully installed a set into something very similar to what I have, then buy those - or see what size they are and find something in that size.
  18. I can personally attest to the awesomeness of this Super. The real deal.
  19. Since you've asked... Im still toying with this idea. Since we seem to be after that inferno flake sparkle, I was looking at modeling them after one of Don Rich's sparkle Tele's. Looking at his, they all have binding. Like a checker pattern. I can't find that pattern at Warmoth bit there is similar To add binding a is $85 per at Warmoth, thats $ 170 extra for a double binding. Im down for the extra $$$ as long as everybody else is. I'd prefer to just do the top binding. If I do this, it will be on the 1st part of 2022. After the remodel I promised myself a 6 month break from projects, and Warmoth is like 10 to 14 weeks out on parts anyway. So far I count 11 users here who say they are in. Ill confirm with those before moving forward. Please reach out via PM if you are seriously interested. Here's the pic I got with the nearest binding I could find to Don Rich's.
  20. Transparent Sunset Orange could be cool too; satin, cream pickguard, vintage tint neck, with vintage style appointments?
  21. I'm down, thats how I built that pink one.
  22. Even if I could pull it off, the one B-Bender Tele I have played was so heavy that it turned me off to them. Warmoth site says you need a min 50 identical bodies or necks to get a builder discount. I wonder if there is another quality builder to go to? If it happens, it will be quality. I think we'd do that inferno body color I posted above, maple fingerboard w modern compound radius, and a 5 hole white or cream pickguard, maybe MOT. From there build a consensus on the bridge style, tuners, pickups, etc. and then offer the option to have a different set of pickups shipped to me if someone wasn't thrilled with what was agreed to.
